As a native of Hempstead, I have many fond memories of Wings and Things that are attached to my childhood. Their famous chicken seems to make a cameo at all Birthday parties, weekend dinners and family gatherings. No wonder this place has been around longer than I have been on earth ! We don't see businesses stay around that long and there is a reason. The community can depend on quality comfort southern style soul food here made with love. This is not your typical mom and pop's southern shack. No sir. This business I would assume is family owned and operated. They have one of the best fried chicken recipes I've ever tried. The food is consistently good. They have a Drive Thru that stays open late with continuous long lines that can be viewed while driving East on Fulton/ Hempstead Turnpike and Dining Room here. My favorite menu items here are the Fried Wings, fried okra, Corn Bread and Macaroni Salad. My daughter loves coming to eat in the dining room enjoying their collared greens, chicken and yams. The staff works quick and they are so friendly and have the best service. Even during the COVID19 crisis they have been managing the masses. I've been here twice. I was so excited by the word of mouth reviews that when I finally arrived the prices threw me into a spending frizzy. It was late, about 10 p.m. straight off of work. As a chicken spot, if you can last a few minutes down from a Popeyes than you're definitely doing something right. Wings n Things obviously specializes in chicken but they really do offer a wide array of options on their menu. Everything from ribs to cornbread, corn on the cob, macaroni and cheese, yams, biscuits, sweet potato pie, collard greens, and the list goes on... Corn bread here is to die for and they give you big healthy sized pieces that I sometimes end up cutting in half. My favorite is the honey bbq wingettes but I have recently switched over to their boneless chicken and I find that to be better because you get a lot more chicken that way. I love their French fries, I don't know what it is about them but I can finish the bag before I get home. I have used them to cater before and they are very reasonably priced as well as professional. People will love the food you get here. I wouldn't suggest coming here to dine in but the drive through is always packed. The fry plantain was not thoroughly cooked. This was my biggest disappointment because they were my movie snack for Divergent, which we copped from the Redbox@7-11 next door. They offer regular fried chicken parts, or you can get wingettes or full wings with sauces on it. I mainly come here for chicken but they do make bbq ribs which are tender and they have a large variety of sides. You can order a la carte or get meal combos. The sides are hit or miss, sometimes they are good and sometimes not so good that's why I didn't give 5 stars. I like the hot sauce packets that come with the chicken and I usually get fruit punch beverage. The drive thru option is convenient but you can eat inside if you want. A family value meal includes 20 pieces of crunchy, tasty, fried chicken (and the parts are quite large), 2 sides - which are always collard greens and sweet plantains, and if you want to indulge in a third side, get the green beans - so savory they make a meal in and of themselves! Oh, and ask for extra BBQ sauce - those little tubs of tangy sauce are probably the reason we keep going back for another piece of chicken! Next, take that delectable meal out to a park or beach or your own backyard and make like you whipped it all up yourself!
