Nov.2025 Dr Brooks is no longer affiliated with New York Ketamine. In my experience and in my opinion, after my latest appointment I want to warn that IMO they no longer provide competent or safe treatment for ketamine infusions. I have been using them for monthly infusions for seven years and have watched the practice deteriorate as Dr Brooks involvement continued to diminish. My understanding is that he is now fully retired. I wouldn't no longer recommend trusting them for any kind of treatment. I found them to be incompetent, and their incompetence triggered my PTSD in a way that is not related to the effects of the infusion itself, but rather medical mismanagement and error and lack of appropriate training and supervision. It's now 2023, and I'll be with NYK for 6 years this summer. I'm a pain patient who has Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, and earlier in my condition I would get an infusion every 4-6 weeks, then every 8, every 12, and so on. I've been seeing Dr. Brooks for treatment resistant depression since December of 2019. After trying nearly everything under the sun for close to two decades, I was about ready to throw in the towel and give up on damn near everything. I was going nowhere fast and had basically run out of options. I was terrified to call in, but I am so, SO grateful and thankful that I did. The staff are all so very lovely and kind. They put you at ease right away and make sure that your comfort always comes first. Menopause + ketamine = love. If you're reading this it's because like me, you've tried everything else and you're feeling rather desperate. You're also probably here because no doctor actually believes you feel as awful as you do, and when "normal" treatments don't work, they shrug their shoulders and leave you to figure out a solution on your own. I had always lived with depression, and in a way was able to manage it but menopause tipped the scales. By the time I called them, my depression had spiraled out of control. I went to bed every night with an anxiety attack, and woke every morning with a migraine, depression, and another anxiety attack. This had gone on for 2 years before I found them. Over the previous 20 years, I had tried over 30 different solutions. What I appreciate about NY Ketamine: * licensed nurses on staff at all times * open 7 days a week to accommodate even the most demanding schedules Things I wish I knew going in: * If you're prone to migraines, tell them up front so they can add magnesium to your IV. You WILL get a migraine the next day if you don't. * The call button is for when you have a panic attack during treatment. If the drip is too fast, it will launch a full on anxiety attack. They can slow the drip for you, but I didn't know that. * You'll feel a little worse after your 2nd or 3rd treatment. * Bring a blanket - it gets cold while the icy IV pumps through your veins * Bring ear plugs - the walls are thin and when you're tripping, all those conversations going on around you can feel really weird! * Add about an hour to how long you think you'll be there. Even if you manage to finish your treatment in under an hour, it will take a while to feel normal enough to walk out the door. I managed to go to work afterwards, but walking in the subway was a bit of a risk since I was pretty wobbly. * They add anti-nausea medicine to the drip, and if you're doing your first 6 sessions one on top of another, it will back you up. What would make the experience even better: * Ginger candy on hand in every room to manage the dizziness * Better COVID protocol - some staff don't wear masks at all, while others wear them around their chins. * Prepping IV bags AFTER speaking to the patient. On one occasion the IV was prepped before speaking to me about my previous visit, and had to be thrown out. It's been a life-changing experience overall. I went in with a healthy dose of skepticism. After the 1st treatment, the anxiety let up. After the 3rd treatment, the depression lifted. After the 4th treatment, I began calling friends again. After the 5th treatment, I realized I was actually singing just because I felt happy. After the 6th treatment, I felt a glimmer of the person I used to be, and I got my fight back. read more

I went into the treatments for help with my depression. I was shocked by the lack of professionalism by this staff. At one point during a treatment, I hit the call button for help, and nobody responded for something like 8 minutes! No apology. It's a good thing it was just to ask for a blanket and nothing more serious. After that, I never went to another appointment alone. When a nurse offered to give me something to make me feel better in the IV, I asked what it was, and she told me she didn't like suspicious patients. How dare I...ask what she wants to put in my blood...? Some of the nurses were okay, but it's a real crapshoot. The doctor seemed to really be guessing at dosages, and not keeping good notes, asking me what the last dose we tried was. I had six treatments, and one day of relief, that was it. I have CRPS in my left knee and lower leg as a result of a failed TKR when I was only 40. I was in a wheelchair when I first started seeing him. They did not follow the instructions of my previous clinic and instead followed their own directions which resulted in me having medical trauma and thereby retriggering my ptsd. I don't think it was intentional but it was negligent and avoidable and I'm suffering with flashback, panic attacks, etc as a result. read more

Wow, ketamine infusion is a life saver! My son, 16, has been under depression and anxiety disorder since 10/2016. He's been under psychiatric and psychological treatment since, made some improvements, and been stalling this year. I was getting desperate. Then I found ketamine infusion. After the first two sessions, I noticed some subtle but definitive changes in his behavior. He's more talkative, open, walks WAY faster, with a generally more upbeat posture overall, and WAY higher energy baseline. Ever since his depression, if he gets up before noon, it's a good day. He got up before 9 for a grand total of maybe 3 days. During the two week treatment, every day of the treatment he got up before 8. That's 6 days in two weeks! Today I couldn't finish mowing the backyard. I asked him casually if he could finish it tomorrow. An immediate and resounding yes! This hasn't happened since BEFORE his depression! I cannot say enough about this. I have finished my second infusion. I believe it is helping. Dr. Brooks and his staff are kind and thoughtful.
