In the long run the initial expense is worth it. Kendal itself is wonderful. People greet you when you are in the common areas and staff members are as nice as the residents. The activities which are resident conceived and run are varied. Many intellectual offerings ranging from book clubs, interesting lectures, concerts and opera films. There are craft rooms which the residents run as well and an indoor pool,,o physical therapy and rehab. I live here and love it.

Due to several upsetting incidents, we asked about placing a camera in their room. We were informed cameras were NOT permitted by Kendal on Hudson (except in independent living). After our loved one passed away, our family arrived to clear out their room in the Sunnyside section and were shocked to find it had been left unlocked since our loved one had been taken into the hospital. Upon entering the room it was obvious many items were missing. We informed the administrator and were treated terribly. Ultimately, the incident was reported to the police. It was an awful time for our family, made so much worse by the treatment we received, and the complete lack of accountability or responsibility for protecting our loved one's property. Kendal's policy of no cameras throughout areas of the care sections, including residents' rooms, allowed them to completely control the narrative. This really made us question some of our earlier concerns. I wish we had a better experience because our loved one sold their family home to enter this facility. Unless Kendal on Hudson has changed their policy, I would suggest you consider a facility with a camera-friendly policy, as it's often the only witness these vulnerable residents have.

With Sunshine's help, I got back the fight in my spirit that I needed to turn my health around. I became part of the Sunshine family, which was more valuable to me than words could ever express. Over a period of months, when insurance coverage was questionable, the owners of Sunshine tirelessly fought my company on a daily basis. They spent hours each day on my case and did not stop until finally coverage was reinstated. What an indescribable blessing in a world where time is money. I lay in a hospital bed, not knowing how I was going to exist at home, as they fought for me and won. The Sunshine team is truly concerned with the patients' welfare and and treat each patient individually. You can really be assured that you will get the best of care and respect from their staff. Unfortunately Social Work fell for Matthews sales pitch and contracted with Sunshine. Matthew repeatability and consistently reported back to Social Work that they were waiting for initial authorization from NYS Medicaid- this continued for over 30 days- When no progress was made in hiring a Nurse- Social Work contacted Medicaid directly and SUNSHINE Homecare Services HAD NEVER EVER SUBMITTED the claim for authorization!!!!!! MY SONS DISCHARGE WAS DELAYED 30 DAYS because Matthew and the company are full of S__it!!! DO NOT USE THIS AGENCY!!!! DIO NOT WORK FOR THESE A---holes!!!!!

During his…read morestay, his family members and I were always welcomed at the place, our questions were answered in timely manner, our concerns were addressed, and I was able to obtain all necessary information to prepare my home to receive him back after his discharge. We also met wonderful family members of his fellow patients, and we enjoyed our daily conversation at the garden. We will always treasure the connections we made at the Cedar Manor.
