There is a hefty fee for an independent living apt and a large upfront medical fee as well, but you are guaranteed an assisted living apt, rehab and nursing home care as well as a section for mental decline if you ever need any if these services for the same monthly fee you pay for the independent living apt. In the long run the initial expense is worth it. Kendal itself is wonderful. People greet you when you are in the common areas and staff members are as nice as the residents. The activities which are resident conceived and run are varied. Many intellectual offerings ranging from book clubs, interesting lectures, concerts and opera films. There are craft rooms which the residents run as well and an indoor pool,,o physical therapy and rehab. I live here and love it.

Due to several upsetting incidents, we asked about placing a camera in their room. We were informed cameras were NOT permitted by Kendal on Hudson (except in independent living). After our loved one passed away, our family arrived to clear out their room in the Sunnyside section and were shocked to find it had been left unlocked since our loved one had been taken into the hospital. Upon entering the room it was obvious many items were missing. We informed the administrator and were treated terribly. Ultimately, the incident was reported to the police. It was an awful time for our family, made so much worse by the treatment we received, and the complete lack of accountability or responsibility for protecting our loved one's property. Kendal's policy of no cameras throughout areas of the care sections, including residents' rooms, allowed them to completely control the narrative. This really made us question some of our earlier concerns. I wish we had a better experience because our loved one sold their family home to enter this facility. Unless Kendal on Hudson has changed their policy, I would suggest you consider a facility with a camera-friendly policy, as it's often the only witness these vulnerable residents have.

Thanks to the exceptional rehabilitation team, I received occupational and physical therapy twice a day from a caring, knowledgeable, and supportive staff. Their doctors met my every need. During my stay, I experienced some unexpected complications from the surgery that required me to extend my time there, but their team continued to provide unwavering support and attention working with my insurance to asure I was getting the care I needed. After 24 days, I was able to walk out of the facility--something that would not have been possible without their dedication and expertise. The staff was compassionate, attentive, and truly listened to my needs during a very difficult time. I highly recommend this facility and am incredibly grateful for the care I received.

My mother stood here for 2 months and almost died last night and is in icu in critical condition with sepsis, mrsa and a brain infarction because of their careless staff. If my aunt didn't find my mother reaching for air, almost not breathing, and her blood sugar severely high, she would not be here today. When she tried to tell the staff what was going on, the staff annoyingly said they already checked her vitals which was clearly not true. I'm pretty sure my mom tried to get help and they ignored her. Ambulance had to be called. These people are not attentive at all and don't care about the patients. Seem to only care about a paycheck. I seen a review of a patient getting wrong doses of meds and dirty needles. Pretty sure something similar is what happened to my mom. My mother will never be going back and you people should be ashamed of yourselves! Don't send your loved ones here

We agreed, and upon a friend's high recommendation, chose Emerson. I am forever thankful we did. In the 8 and 1/2 months she was under the care of 2 North amazing staff led by Flavia, my mom DID thrive! She was so well cared for by the nursing staff and the aides. They were responsive, quick to update me and an absolute pleasure every time I came in. They take their residents' care very personally and as a result, it is above and beyond. The recreation staff made daily activities a joy, and my mom, who even in her dementia was very social, fun and feisty, participated in everything from games - both physical and cognitive - to karaoke and attending all the live Friday concerts. Emerson impressed us at every turn. From the efficient admin staff to wonderful Kelly in the salon, to the receptionists and attentive housekeeping staff, we were always greeted with a smile. It truly reflects their corporate culture, which is one of hospitality and excellence in care. Thank you for making the last chapter of her long and well-lived life, one to be remembered fondly.

My mom particularly loved her aide, Ledy who could not do enough to make my mom comfortable. She went out of her way to go the extra mile and anticipate my mom's needs without having to be asked first. Being in rehab is not an easy adjustment but Ledy made the experience tolerable and provided superior care while maintaining the dignity of the patient. - She is really a gem! The main complaint I heard from my mom was regarding the food. Unfortunately, it often arrived at her room cold. She also received things that she did not request even after clearly marking the weekly menu to exclude those items. We did speak to the dietician who was very attentive and requested to eliminate a few things from the order each day but some of the items still were delivered each day and went back to the kitchen un-touched. It just seemed wasteful to provide food that wasn't going to be eaten each day.

The nursing staff, aides, and doctors are all fantastic - caring and knowledgeable. All your needs are addressed! The food is excellent. The physical therapy and occupational staff are fantastic too. December 2018 - January 2019 Beautiful facility - private…read morerooms for rehab residents and looks like a 5 star hotel and we thought that it would be an ideal place for my mother but it wasn't. Note - everyone goes into rehab with different needs. If your loved one needs little to no medical care and is pure rehab (i.e. hip replacement) then this place may be a good fit. My mother (84 years old) had complex medical needs and needed more medical care and more day-to-day help than The Jewish Home was set up to provide. Day-toDay: The aides are critical to the day-to-day comfort and satisfaction of residents/patients and when this group is not managed well, then life until discharge is poor. I met with the supervisor, the director and finally the CEO in order to request changes but found that fundamentally, the supervisors have little to no people management training. My mother rang her call bell with extreme delays in response time. Thirty minutes was not unusual to wait for someone come in to take my mother to the bathroom and then leave my mother alone on the toilet for extreme lengths of time. I found out from an aide that they all went on their break at the same time and they only worked the rooms assigned. So, if a resident was on the toilet and the call bell was on - the resident waited until their aide was available. I finally brought in a private pay "companion" to sit in my mothers room all day so that she could request help by walking to the desk or to call me when there was an issue that I needed to be aware of. (non employee's cannot assist resdients) Medical: I asked for a cardiologist to see my mother and told "he hasn't been into the Jewish Home in more than 3 weeks". When I asked why - the answer was - I have no idea. My first thought was "really?". My second thought was to escalate. I think that top management did not understand, as is often the case for medical facilities, that it should be less about "this is not how we do it" and more about "what should we do differently?". The executive team was kind, caring, and looking to the future but they did not see the little things that mattered so much to residents and to families. I spoke to many, many other residents family members and we shared stories. Some situations were similar i.e. call bell issues and in other cases people had bigger issues than we were experiencing. PT: My mother was not allowed out of her wheelchair unless with PT. PT saw my mother for a short time each day. So my mother spent over 23 hours a day in a wheelchair - little progress was made. My mother's wheelchair was terrible and when asked to swap it out we were told that there weren't enough to do that. PT shared that they were always short on needed equipment which should not be the case in a facility like this. So, finally I gave up and took my mother out of The Jewish Home. She had 24/7 care when she got home and was using her walker within 2 weeks. In closing I want to say - I saw the potential for The Jewish Home rehab facility to be a really, really good place to rehab for any level of care that may be needed. What was missing was management training and soft skill training for their supervisors. I had requested this over and over and I hope at some point following my mother's discharge, this was discussed within the facility.

Terrible facility. My family member was in their 'Rehab Wing' with a similar set of circumstances…read moredescribed by Lillian A., but with a much worse outcome. Their lone physician Dr. Robert Siebkin has a medical degree from a Third-World medical school (really). He routinely billed for 'visits' he never made, nurses were inattentive, and obvious distress signs such as high fever were ignored. The kitchen staff were the only bright spot of the whole experience. When I was informed by the head nurse, Marie Winziger, that 'there's no such thing as a diabetic diet'(!), the kitchen staff fortunately went the extra mile to prepare one. Beware placing your loved one in care of their 'Rehab Wing'. The rehab wing only means that they will attempt to extract every possible dollar from your insurance; it does -Not- mean your loved one will be provided any higher standard of care. By the time we figured out what was going on, irreparable health damage was already done. By all means, check your billing statements carefully for shenanigans. They will try. They even have a third-party pharmacist (Chem-Med, LLC) which extortionately bills for 'nutritional supplements' which are just low quality vitamins. In our case fortunately, money and insurance was not an issue but even so, Nyack Manor provided a shockingly low level of care for what was paid, even by current bottom-of-the-barrel nursing home standards. Do not leave someone you care about in the care of this facility. No matter how often you will check up on them/ visit your loved one, it is a dangerous gamble with odds you may unfortunately lose. Even if this facility is close/ and or convenient for other family members, Nyack Manor does not operate according to current best practices. There are other facilities nearby that are much better, and an especially outstanding one close by in Bergen county NJ. Moreover, the Nyack Manor facility itself and grounds have all the charm of a discount veterinary clinic. Beware.
