The variety of breads is delicious, there's some pound cake like bread, a flat toasted crisp one, a couple sourdough, rolls, etc.

The bar is small, unassuming and finds itself on a street filled with conspicuous, Italian restaurants hosting happy hours for corporate Swedes. The bar is a standout for the drinks, the trademark Swedish charisma and genuine warmth. As a side, shout out to Sweden for having the nicest, most welcoming people in the world. We were given a standing table when we got in, but quickly moved to a couple of seats by the bar. We were one of 8 couples at the bar, so yes, very date night vibes. For our first round of drinks, we got the Easy Martini and Let them Eat Cake. The latter was too sweet for our liking but the Easy Martini had the perfect amount of sweet and tart. Our second round was the winner with the Girl Dinner and their Old Fashioned. The Girl dinner was crafted to perfection and possibly the best version of a martini we've ever had. The old fashioned too, made with WhistlePig 10 years was fantastic. The service cannot be faulted, we profusely thanked the lovely bartender, vowing to crow about it to whoever cares to listen and to be back when we are in Stockholm next.

Music is neither too loud nor too crazy ( lounge music) & you get a decent chair to sit & keep your honor (by not having to crowd others in a cramped space at the bar & stretch half way to the other side of the bar to get the bar tender's attention!) The crowd is pretty mixed, there were mature & middle aged people, very young(20+) groups & some couples. If you are looking for somewhere to have a drink & chat (& be able to hear each other!) this is really nice place.

Enter Penny & Bill! This cocktail bar features a rich, deep, and extremely well thought-out menu of very interesting cocktails. The bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and will be happy to talk to you about their creations, which have been helpfully sorted into informative categories like "Herbal & Punchy" and "Short & Fresh." Even classic cocktails, like the gimlet, are jazzed up with interesting ingredients (for example, their extremely popular Aperol Spritz features Suze and orange cordial in addition to aperol and champagne). Stockholm is an expensive city, but my drinking companion and I ended up ordering three cocktails each. We ended up with a bill of about a hundred US dollars, and after confronting $14 beers and $17 glasses of wine all over the rest of the city, we honestly felt like we got something of a bargain. I'd recommend this bar to anyone coming to Stockholm, especially as many of the city's very elite restaurants are nearby. It's a great place to wait for your reservation, and you'll end up saving money off what you would have spent on ludicrously marked up wine at your restaurant. I'd note that this bar is a little more on the "upscale" side and I felt slightly out of place in my flannel shirt. You certainly don't have to wear a suit but I myself wish I'd at least had a smart shirt. Great bar and will absolutely be back if I return to Stockholm! Great music too!

We passed several days in Stockholm drinking incredibly expensive glasses of wine with our meals, so we were thrilled to visit Penny & Bill on our last night in Stockholm. I'd put Penny & Bill on my to-visit list after reading about it in Eater Stockholm, and I feel like Eater undersold this place! The decor is Instagram-perfect (jewel-tone hunter green with mauve accents and lots of brass trim), and the aesthetic is so on point, from the music to the coasters to the bathroom -- the atmosphere sets the tone for the elegant, inventive, and diverse menu of cocktails. Whether you're a cocktail novice (as it seems many Stockholmers are) or a seasoned mixologist, there's likely to be something that suits your tastes; the menu is grouped into categories of mood/flavor to help steer you in the right direction. One thing I thought was interesting -- and probably a function of the cocktail-trepidation of the Swedes around here -- is that every cocktail costs 168 kroner, presumably so you'll choose by taste rather than price point. Penny & Bill is very committed to introducing people to cocktail culture, and they have lots of accessible concoctions on the menu that allow you to taste the familiar with a twist (e.g. the not-your-average espresso martini or their gussied-up Aperol spritz). I ordered three cocktails, all expertly made by a lovely and extremely knowledgeable bartender, and since tax/tip are included, these three drinks ran about $50 USD, which I think is very reasonable since I'm used to NYC prices. Please, please add this to your Stockholm itinerary; it's an amazing hidden gem and I hope more people discover it!

Pretty hard to find if your just walking the streets in Gamla Stan but so worth it if you find it. Excellent drinks and while we were there, they had a beer special that was up my alley- so to speak. We also enjoyed some smoked salmon for an appetizer that was awesome as well. Some colorful lights and a large umbrella with some space heaters help to take the chill out of the late summer nights. And the bartenders were spot on with a drink or beer when needed. Just what we needed after some full days of walking through the historic town that is so full of great things to see. It's not often I want to try something a second time, but this space deserves a return trip.

The prices were a bit high (although I do think it's worth the price). Will definitely be back for drinks, though.

The only snafu was a bumpy check-in, where the really sweet front desk agent who checked us in apparently didn't check us all the way in. Seriously how does that happen? We signed, we put up the credit card for incidentals, we got keys, the tv had my name on it to welcome us and we spent the 1st night in the room with nothing seeming amiss, and upon disclosing our name and room number we were welcomed to the breakfast that next morning. But then that day we got a no-show charge via email and worried housekeeping would pack up our belongings with the room showing as unoccupied in their system, so upon our return from that day's interrupted activities we had to sort it out. They checked us in (again) but this time for realsies and they said the no-show charge was the same as the room charge so our 4-night stay became officially a 3-night stay. I'm still not sure if the rate stayed the same but it all seemed more or less fixed at the time... but now Marriott Bonvoy isn't giving me credit for the room night and the points so I'm still dealing with it weeks later which is crazy because we were there. So annoying. But the hotel really was nice. The room was spacious, the lounge was beautiful with an enormous multistory chandelier and the breakfast really was epic. Lots to see via short walks, meals, destinations and transit access in every direction. Nice place.
