Askin sold me my velotric electric bike. I wanted a bike for fitness and leisure. His recommendation was spot on and I love my bike. Got it on sale for 1300 then bought all the bells and whistles to go along with it. Asking never charges me extra to fill up my tire or when I ask him to look at my chain or any small question I just stop by and he makes himself available. Most recently I had to troubleshoot why my bike stopped working and Askin took it through all the the troubleshooting through the warranty and didnt even charge me for all the time he spent to check whether it was my display or lithium batter. What I mean is , the shop is very fair. Maybe you pay a bit more for a bike or parts but you get access to an expert who's willing to take the time to coach you through bike ownership. I found this very helpful. He keeps pretty standard hours with the occasional weekday or weekend day off. Anything I've asked about he researches and gets back to me so his follow up and follow through are on point. Ive been eyeing electric scooters and will probably go through him again because I dont want to feel on my own for the maintenance etc. read more

They changed my tires on my wheelchair only took a few hours but all in one day. Yup once more words to post this, they were wonderful. update so what's a girl to do when you call up to have your wheelchair serviced and they tell you you have to go for an occupational therapy appointment which cost over $400. Because your insurance doesn't cover occupational therapy just to have your tires changed really well. These guys are my saviors, I went with flat free tires. They're called solid tires and yes, they make it for wheelchairs.. with my medical equipment dealer allow me to get solid tires No. but I own my wheelchair out right there's no warranty on it. Why can't I have what I want I'm tired of flat tires. I'm tired. of the cost to get tires my gerbil medical equipment supplier takes three months to get an appointment on this guy came came through in two days.. read more

Horrible service .Mechanic/ Owner tries to talk a good game but in reality has no knowledge of how components work . could not replace a simple chain . Didnt even bother to line up both chains to see if they were the same size .. then he messes with the front derailleur . just to tell me my brand new campy shifter is broke . I told him to put my old chain back on .. couldnt do that right either!! he put a kink on my chain . DO NOT BRING YOUR BIKE THERE FOR REPAIRS , even if you BOUGHT YOUR BIKE IN WALMART . read more

ZERO STARS!!!!! Went in for a front disc break adjustment and the owner decided both front and back needed "fixed" . After he was done I was charged close to $60 for a 5min job which he did terrible on. I then took my bike and went to Manhattan but only walked it since I was taking a train and ferry. I then went for a ride and the front disc break kept making more noise and louder and I was already in a different city , ultimately the front tire came off due to poor work and I specifically asked to make sure the front tire and fork are tightened and everything . Luckily my fall wasn't as bad as the bikes damage but this is going to cost me more to fix . The whole reason I went to the shop was for safety issues and this shit happens . DO NOT GO HERE!!! These people are the dishonest auto mechanics of the bicycle world. Came in to replace a rear derailleur, it's hanger and a new chain. Was told they cost about $20 more than they actually cost from looking online and on top of that they told me I would also need to replace something that has nothing to do with the issue, the rear cog, for another $65 bringing the total including labor to $240. Brought it to Bennett's Bicycles on Jewett Ave and they're doing it for $140. The people at Bennett's actually care. read more

It is not often that I right recommendations on line but this time I must commend the staff at NYC Bicycle. I ordered a Specialized road bike on line and was a bit concerned about buying without seeing the product thankfully when I arrived at the store to pickup the bike I was pleasantly treated in a first class manner the bicycle was waiting for me, the staff made all adjustments to properly fit me to the bike, reviewed from top to bottom the intricacies that I should be aware of and told me to come back in two months to have the bike adjusted and whatever else it might need after a little road time. Friendly staff and family operated little bike shop. Understanding this is important because the prices aren't "Walmart" cheap. You're supporting a local business. I brought my bike in for a tune up and it was nice to get special attention and even additional tips to keep the bike in good running condition. Good turn around time for all they had to do to clean it up after riding it during the winter with salted roads. Again wasn't cheap and they do try to sell additional higher quality parts like brakes but what's another $14 for better and longer lasting stopping power? Of course I'm writing this review while waiting for them to open so I can get another bike fixed up and it's 45m after the open times listed on google... so I took off 1 star ;) I'll come back another time. read more

This shop has subpar service and inflated prices. The owner is taking advantage of the fact that he's the only bike shop in the area and takes advantage of those who may not have another option. I was charged $6 for an item that only costs $1 (presta adapter). The person ahead of me in line bought an item for far more than it really costs as well, received no help with installation, and was rushed out of the store. I had to assist him on the sidewalk outside. Do not take your business here. There are bike shops just across the bridge which are far better. read more

This place is a complete rip off. Very overpriced compared to the other Bicycle shops in NY. After I requested for a tune up on my breaks, the owner charged close to $30 for this simple service and then had the AUDACITY to tell me that the breaks on the bike were "low quality" and they "won't last long after a few months" while prior to the completion, he lied to my face saying that my bike breaks were in "ok condition". I spent $30 for a simple service but he could have informed me about the quality of the breaks BEFORE he even worked on the bike. Basically, I just spent $30 for nothing... So my boyfriend went to this shop to fix my bicycle for me , and asked for front and back breaks to be done ,,,, the man charged $80. So my boyfriend was trying to figure out why the high price being curious because when we looked at the reviews this shop did front and back breaks for a much lower price, and then this man fixing my bike calls my boyfriend a B**ch along with ,"I could of took your money and not fix your bike properly, your paying for quality". I've been coming here since they opened for business to have my bikes (I have 3) for repairs, flats, tune ups and sometimes just to chat with the staff. While I understand some of the concerns over pricing, especially on repairs, I can't disagree more. I have found when I tried doing-it-myself, I often do it wrong, don't have the right tools or it winds up taking me an hour or more while it takes them a fraction of the time. I admit when I first started coming here, I was concerned that they were pushing for repairs that I didn't need or overcharging. But I consulted with my bike fanatic friends and Googled whether the repairs were necessary, and my research confirmed that NYC Bicycle Shop was always right. I admit that they aim to have my bikes in perfect working order, which can get costly, and I remind them that I'm not gearing for the Tour de France. Often I will instruct them that I just need the bike to be in ordinary working order, brakes, wheels, etc. Part of the issue, I believe, is that bicycle technology and equipment isn't what it used to be. As for accessories and parts, like everything else, you pay more at a brick-and-mortar operation like this shop than you would online. But the staff always gives an estimate and lays out your options. I'm sorry if some customers feel as if they've been wronged. I can only say that I ride up to 100 miles a week, I don't let anyone but NYC Bicycle Shop touch my precious wheels. read more

i'm happy we got a nearby bike shop from where i live in staten island. i don't know much about the prices of the items they've got inside (they also have an online storefront). i also learned that the owner has another store in manhattan in partnership with other fellows. i know the owner has at least 4 bikes himself. you pay for installation services for bike parts you'd buy here, so that's a major learning (it means you'll save more cash if you can install those bike parts yourself, which, of course, also means you have to have the skills LOL). the shop's clean and close to an area that you can bike on and enjoy the views of the New York harbor that faces Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. they're helpful, really. I'm sure i'll be back again as i need some upgrades for some parts of my so-basic bike. read more

I recently purchased a bike at this shop......I had very bad luck with 2 previous bikes that I bought from Walmart and Toys r Us and had to return both of them, so I decided to go to a regular bike shop........I COULDN'T BE HAPPIER. You know what they say "You get what you pay for" and, no, the bike was not cheap but I got service the moment I walked in there, Carlos took the time to ask me what I was looking for, how I was going to be using the bike, and how much I wanted to spend.
