I stopped after a recent trip to my first ever cardiologist appointment at age 52; extra weight on and a former daily cyclist, NYC bike messenger in the 1980s, I'm a lifetime fanatic who realized that he needed to get back on track. I was curious about e-bikes, and Ossie the most excellent friendly mechanic I've dealt with, helped me with my decision with a test drive in the rolling hills of Maplewood! I had such an amazing ride, it re-sparked my passion for cycling, after that ride I bought in 2 of my bikes for work there and they are both riding fantastic, the work they do, helpful advice, friendly warm demeanor, all ushered in a new era of my cycling that I now have passed down to my son, we go on rides every other day, and his enthusiasm has created an even stronger bond. The clearly advertised levels of bike service on the wall behind the register, which range from a straightforward tune-up to an annual maintenance plan for those "hammers" who ride their bikes hard, offer a great variety of options depending on how much (or how little) you plan to ride your two-wheeled steed. Although I only stopped in to check out kid bike helmets and to buy an insulated water bottle, it was a wholly positive experience. I've been wanting to stop by this cute little bicycle shop for the longest time. I live in the area and constantly pass by to see all kinds of bicycles. I've been in the market for a bike for myself so I figured I would take a peek. The Urban Cyclery Shop had all kinds of bikes. I was equally impressed with their service and how quickly someone came out to assist me and ask what I was looking for. They are extremely knowledgeable about the industry and I felt comfortable talking to them. I found out there's been a shortage of bikes due to the pandemic and many bikes are stuck on boats overseas. For that reason, their stock was probably not what it usually is. I know for my 6'0 tall frame, they didn't have what I needed; but the owner invited me to come back on Wednesday when they were getting more shipment in. I felt the items could have been a bit pricey but in defense of the store, I have not been shopping for a bike for years so I had not done any comparison pricing. It could very well be these prices were super-competitive and I just wouldn't know. I recommend for those who are in the market for a bike to stop by and take a look. As I normally do not write reviews, I felt obligated to write one for this shop. During the pandemic I purchased a bike. Never knew that you had to maintain a bike just like a car. Well, I had my Trex bike for 2 years. Never had an issue with it. Well, time has come that I need work performed on my bike. Since I purchased the bike at a trex store, I was going to take it there to get service. I thought long and hard and decided to give a small neighborhood business a try. Well, I am so happy I did. The service was amazing. Customer service was amazing from the minute I walked in the door. To make it even better, I had my bike back within 2 hours. Well, you are my new bike service center. I was involved in an unfortunate (but fortunately, not serious) accident while on my road bike about two weeks ago, requiring some repairs to my bicycle. I turned to Ozzie and his team at The Urban Cyclery, and just as I have experienced in the past, the team was courteous, efficient, pleasant, informative and knowledgeable. In addition to all of that, they were quick with the needed repairs, which will allow me to rejoin my riding group on our next outing (tomorrow!) -- my first in over two weeks! What I appreciate most about Ozzie is that he's straightforward and honest and also an excellent bike engineer/technologist. He tells you what's what, has never tried to upsell me on services or repairs that I don't need, and is just very pleasant to work with. I heard about this shop courtesy of Social Media. I finally pushed myself to consider investing in a bike. While the cost of the bikes that this store hold was above my budget, I was pleased to know that it could repair the two types of bikes I appreciate: a vintage road bike and a rowdy mountain bike. My first experience was bringing in my vintage Schwinn bike which I purchased in fair condition and the store rep recognized it, its problem and quote the minimum charge to repair it. Turnaround time was about a week due to an increase in cycling enthusiasts and I obliged. When I got the call from Antonio about the cost, I was absolutely STUNNED by the final cost to repair my bike. Rewind to when I brought the bike in, the rep, Alistair reviewed my bike, and was clearly knowledgeable about the issues at hand and he told me it may be about $150 to repair but if there's any more issues, they'll call before they touch. Glad they did, because Antonio quoted me at....get ready...$450! I'm not sure if my heart or brain stopped for a second but that was too large a number for me to compute. I told Antonio, this was farrr beyond what I could do and I may just have to take the loss. What I appreciated about Antonio was that he asked me what I realistically thought I would pay and I told him the max of what I expected. He worked with me and there was a middle ground and now I have my Vintage Schwinn bike good as new. His ability to not simply write me off was appreciated. I had a second bike that needed some work, a mountain bike. I didn't take it to Urban Cyclery as I simply couldn't handle another sticker shock moment so I decided to see if a nearby shop may have been more reasonable or just the same. I eventually came back to Urban Cyclery and Alistair once again reviewed my bike, did a superficial assessment, explained the issue and took on my bike. I know what to expect, but I must say courtesy and caring for your customer, no matter a "Huffy" owner or "Trek" owner is key in my book. So I waited 13 years to purchase a new Bike, and got exactly what I always wanted I happen to be in maple wood on Springfield ave ,and notice a new cool bike shop Urban Cyclery right on the corner I always been into bikes so I decided to stop and take a peek at what bikes they had,and there it was my soon to be Sl large electric Cannondale, it was like love at first sight make a long story short I ended up meeting a gentleman that i actually thought he was an employee he happens to be the owner oz" really great guy took time out to actually speak to me ,and guided me on what I needed to do to get the bike I fell in love with,and the rest was history I simply got my bike picked out all the bells and whistles I needed they even threw in a pouch for my seat I recommend anyone to go to this bike shop very friendly ,and great customer service and the owner Oz is the best I am very happy and satisfied with my purchase thanks Urban Cyclery read more

Blown away by the service in this store. I woke up the day of a planned biking ride. No stores were open near where I live so I went to this store on my way to meet my biking group. They fixed my inner tubes and I was due for new tires. They took the time to explain everything to me on my bike (was a great lesson) and didn't push me to do any services I didn't want. I was helped very quickly and in and out within 40 minutes with all that work. Pretty sure I'll be driving out to this spot for all my biking needs going forward. read more

Absolutely great! It is always a pleasure to support a business that operates in excellence. I took a used bike to The Urban Cyclery Shop for a tune up and other repairs. The bike had sat for a few years. So there was rust, dust and some dirt. When I returned to the shop and owner was bringing "this bike" down from the racks I thought he was multitasking and I waited for my bike. Then he went around the counter to the computer. I looked at the receipt on "this bike" & I noticed I was paying the same amount. "Oh someone else got the same service", I thought. But when I didn't see the owner going to get my bike, I informed him he had the wrong bike. When he told me "this bike" was my bike, I couldn't believe it! The bike looked great!
