    Roasted Pork

This is the first time trying this place. I love the food selection; so Caribbean. Love it! The place is a fast food place in a Gas Station complex. The service is fast; point what you want and pay. There are a few options to choose from; although, it is not the Goat Stew day. However, the crunch skin of the roasted pork is a good try. It's a good place to try for a quick lunch or early dinner. Give it a try

After seeing all the pictures my friend Richard R. posted of this places, I was craving their food BAD. I'm Venezuelan, so our food choices are similar to Dominicans for sure. Rice, and beans? Yes please! My first impression when I came in is this place was it is a Bodega, literally. For us, hispanics, a bodega means a mini market, usually owned, and run by a family where you can find the essentials, but not everything you're looking for. Here you can find essential Dominican spices, candies, and more. This was kinda surprising because I was expecting a dining in restaurant, but this wasn't the case. Besides the bodega, they have a food bar on the side kind of buffet style. According to Richard R. their menu keeps changing depending on availability, but when I visited they had pork, chicken, white rice, yellow rice, noodles, plantains, yucca, veggies, and beans. I ordered roasted chicken, yellow rice, and noodles. The chicken was very dry, unfortunately, but the rice and noodles were DELI! I loved that they use a lot of olives to condiment their food. I recommend this place if you're in the area, but have in mind there isn't a lot of seats, so it might be better for take out.

    SO GOOD!!!

I started writing this review on October 11th, 2019, a week after discovering this place! I've struggled since then to put into words exactly what I want to say, but here goes nothing... | THE SCENE | I've come here several times now (about 16 to be exact) and I've had several different menu items. While I've never been to any restaurant where I love EVERYTHING on the menu, these guys come very close! The owners are Dominican by way of New York and honestly, they make just about everything taste delicious! In some ways I feel like the food critic Anton Ego in the movie Ratatouille. I've come to trust the cooking here so much that if asked what I would like, I'd almost be willing to just say "surprise me!" ALMOST! You see, one side of my personality is adventurous, daring & strongly desires for life to not be mundane or routine. I'm SO against routine that I literally hate going on vacation to the same place, hiking the same trails or being in ANY job where I do the same thing repeatedly. The other side of my personality loves stability, particularly in my immediate surroundings such as family, friends & the same faces at places I visit regularly. It's the side of me that agrees so much with marriage. It is also the side of my personality that loves reliability, knowing where to go to get what I want when my spontaneous side wants it! Food falls under both sides of my personality. I love trying new things, but I also love my old favorites. THAT is the crux of my existence as a customer here. While everything I've tried has mostly been to my liking... the menu of NYC Bodega is such that I can't rely on any item in their food arsenal being available when I want it! Also, they don't always make the same item the same way. Take their rice for example. While yellow rice is available most every day, it changes just as frequently. One day it has only basic veggies, another it adds olives while another it might have bits of fish and no veggies. The olive version is my current favorite, but daily you never know which rice it will be. Still, so far all versions have been good and I've had no complaints. | THE FOOD | My favorites are marked with an ** below: STEWED PORK** (4.5 stars) ~ Tender, flavorful and delicious (available most every day) STEWED CHICKEN** (4.5 stars) ~ Tender, flavorful and delicious (available most every day) STEWED RIBS (4 stars) ~ VERY GOOD ROASTED CHICKEN** (4 stars) ~ VERY GOOD, but sometimes dry BEEF & ONIONS** (5+ stars) ~ Some of the best I've ever had SCRAMBLED EGGS** (5++ stars) ~ THEE BEST I've ever had OXTAILS** (5++ stars) ~ THEE BEST I've ever had DOMINICAN SANCOCHO (4 stars) ~ Three meat stew HAM & CHEESE EMPANADA (2.5 stars) ~ Not a fan MASHED YUCCA** (4 stars) ~ Really liked it, but haven't seen it again since first having it. PASTRAMI (3.5 stars) ~ Only tried a sample, but it was good, just sliced thin. I prefer it thicker. BEANS ~ Favorite are the white beans (4 stars) RICE ~ Favorite is the yellow rice with veggies & olives (4.5 stars) [NOTE] Your experience is likely not going to be the same as mine because I've found they generally don't make anything the same way. Each visit that I've tried the same thing as a previous visit has always been different, but that hasn't been a bad thing. | OWNERS / SERVICE | A lovely couple easy to engage in conversation. Their passion for their Dominican roots and cooking is very evident when they talk. I particularly enjoy their lively banter with other Spanish-speaking customers every time I visit, although I can only understand small portions of it. My only gripe is service can sometimes be slow considering most everything is already made. | FINAL THOUGHTS | Cravings are a wicked thing! While it makes TOTAL sense to me for smaller kitchens to always provide their customers with variety, it still doesn't change the fact that when I want oxtails or beef & onions or mashed yucca, I want it that day! By next week I'll likely want something different. Here you cannot count on anything being available regularly. The owners are inspired chefs, meaning even if it's the same menu item, it is likely they will cook it differently than your last visit. All that aside, I truly love the food here. Most everything I've tried ranges from really good to freakin' fantastic. The scrambled eggs & oxtails are absolutely to-die-for! As a result, I'm slowly learning to trust & appreciate this sort of menu! It has allowed my taste buds to be a bit more experimental. HOWEVER, it would be awesome if they updated their Facebook page regularly each morning with the days menu. Updates have been sporadic if done at all. #constructive 2019 / 134th review of the year

This is some really great Dominican food! I haven't really eaten Dominican food before and I know for a fact that I love their seasonings. I've had the pleasure of having their pork chop plate with the rice and beans and I really enjoyed it. I'm looking for ward to trying some of the other food items they carry. This particular day I got this order from Grub Hub I think it was.

I am from New York living in Lawrenceville for 2 years now and still hadn't gotten here. Then I watched Married at First Sight Atlanta and they featured NYC Bodega. Come to find out I only live 3 min away. Grabbed some rice and black beans with pollo guisao and a chicken empanada for less than $10. I am highly satisfied as the portions are plentiful and the taste is on point. Another go to spot to add to my list.

Stewed chicken is delicious and well seasoned. I can't wait to check out their breakfast.

I married a 100% Dominican woman from the island that lived in Washington Heights after she left DR. This place has great food. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Some left a bad review because they said they ordered a quesadilla and fries that were OK. If you come to a Dominican restaurant and order a quesadilla and fries I'm sorry you are an idiot and know nothing about the culture or what to eat. So the ambiance. Is it a 5 star restaurant? No. Stop complaining about what they have to wipe your hands in the bathroom. If you are looking for a fine dining experience then go to Midtown. It's small, the music is LOUD at night and it gets crowded. If you don't like that vibe then go somewhere else. I've been to eat during the day when it's pretty empty and at night when it's packed. Service has always been good with longer waits if you go when there is a concert or an event at night. The food....very good. The only Dominican food I've had that is better has been food my wife cooked, my mother in law cooked or food in the Heights in New York. Definitely the most authentic Dominican spot here in Atlanta. The picadera is SO GOOD. Their beans taste just as good as what I get at home. My wife loves the Mondongo which is hard to make. Rabo is good so are the bistecs, the chuletas and the chicken I've eaten. I haven't tried the Mangu but my wife says it's good and she makes it AMAZING. I've said this before on reviews and will say it again. You have people expecting to get food like DR. Sorry people but we aren't in DR. We aren't in Washington Heights. I'd love to have it that good here but it's not going to happen. It's still doesn't make it bad. The food here is consistently good and I go often with my wife. Get the Picadera Dominicana. Best thing there.

I had already been eyeing this place because of the positive reviews, so it worked out perfectly. We arrived around 7:20, and since they close at 8, I was hoping they wouldn't be too low on the options we wanted. Thankfully, they still had most of what we were looking for. We ended up ordering three oxtail plates (which a couple behind us seemed unhappy about, but honestly, they should have come earlier) and one stew chicken plate. I can't compare the oxtail to other places in Georgia, but it was tasty, satisfying, and the portions were reasonable. Have I had better? Definitely. I've had versions with more flavor, more gravy, and rice that was seasoned on its own. The rice here was decent, but it tasted even better once you mixed in the oxtail gravy. I'd probably skip the coco bread next time, though. Overall, the food was very good, and I'd happily come back the next time I visit Georgia. The lady who helped us was pleasant, and so was the gentleman who came out to assist her. I don't buy into that idea that the food is only good if the staff has an attitude. I've had amazing food with great service plenty of times, and this was one of those experiences. The restaurant is next to a gas station, which threw me off at first, but it's its own separate spot. There are a few tables inside if you want to dine in, but we got our food to go. Since it was close to closing time, I'm not sure if the dine-in area closes a bit earlier. I'd definitely recommend checking them out if you haven't been before and want to try some Caribbean food.
