The OXTAILS here are not only a solid choice in flavor, they also give a hearty portion for the money. There are truly some amazing oxtail chefs around Metro Atlanta, but Jay's holds their own in value. The first time I ordered, I asked for all cabbage instead of rice. I was charged $22 for a plate that is normally $14 -- meaning I was charged an additional $8 simply for changing the rice to cabbage. The next time I went, I ordered the exact same thing: no rice, just cabbage, and my plate was $14. So I know it is possible to order the plate without rice without being charged that much. Today, I went in and asked for the same plate with no rice because I have a dietary restriction and do not eat rice. I was told that there was no option to get the plate without rice and that I had to get rice. That was frustrating because I had literally ordered the same plate without rice the previous week. What makes this even more confusing is that the restaurant's website lists an "all cabbage" option for $2.50, while DoorDash lists it for $3.50. So I'm genuinely confused as to why I was charged an additional $5 the first time I ordered all cabbage. I don't mind paying for a substitution, but the pricing needs to be consistent and transparent. As a customer, being charged different amounts for the same request and then being told an option isn't available when I've previously received it makes me feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I love the food, which is why I've continued coming back, but the pricing inconsistency has gotten to the point where I no longer feel comfortable spending my money there or recommending the restaurant to others. I sincerely hope management looks into this and addresses it with the staff. You have good food, but inconsistent and non-transparent pricing is going to continue to cost you customers. I would love to be able to come back and enjoy my Sunday stewed chicken without having to question whether I'm being charged a fair price.
