In my efforts to find a service provider to improve the state of a 30 unit residential building's aluminum framed main entrance door, and correct a DOB violation, that required installation of a keyed, manual panic bar to be integrated to an existing electromagnetic lock set up (for use to secure the front door in the event of a power outage), I came across NYC Doors And More. While others claimed that the door was beyond repair, and that we first needed the services of an engineer to address the DOB Code compliance issue, Guy, from NYC Doors And More, spoke with me, and we arranged for him to survey the situation. On arrival, he very quickly, and confidently, observed that the job was not as complicated as had been presented to me by others, and he would research some options, and provide them to me as soon as possible. And that, he did. Guy understood that my priority was to reduce the operating, and maintenance headaches I was experiencing with this primary entrance door, including the fact that I was tired of replacing the hydraulic door closer, every one to two years. The phrase "penny wise, pound foolish" comes to mind when looking at the hardware choices that had previously been made. I was ready for an upgrade in quality for the hinges, and closer replacement, and I wanted a quality, code compliant, panic bar. Of course, quality upgrades cost more but I have to say: I've rarely felt so comfortable spending more than I planned, as I did with Guy, and NYC Doors And More. I had every confidence in Guy's carefully presented hardware recommendations, and his ability to implement them well. The result was that the installation and the subsequent operation of it all, exceeded my expectations. Six months later I still feel the same. The door now has a covered, one piece, full length hinge that will keep the door properly aligned, and seems indestructible, and a heavy duty hydraulic closer that will not have to be replaced for years to come. The DOB code correction (that other companies found so difficult to even address), was handled expertly; it's a truly seamless integration. They arrived, on time, worked efficiently, neatly, and were very accommodating, and patient, with the fact that everyone still needed to get in and out of that main entrance while they worked on the door. I will soon be having them perform similar work on the inner lobby door as well. All around, they're true professionals, and I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone that appreciates quality, and solid workmanship. read more

I really wanted a long term relationship with NYC Doors and More, as we have had trouble finding reliable and consistent contractors for our building's ongoing door needs (old building, landmarked, lots of recurring issues!) but instead I never even got out of the gate with them. After paying them a deposit before scheduling (which is not indicated as being non-refundable on anything we signed), our Super needed to take time off for some medical issues. I told Guy, the owner, that when we were ready to schedule, I'd be back in touch. Meanwhile we had some other work done and the contractor that was working on those things offered to take care of the door repairs. I advised Guy of that and politely asked that he refund the $1100 he'd already charged our credit card. He refused, saying he'd already purchased the parts (tho nothing had been scheduled) and couldn't return them. First, that's unlikely. These parts are common and standard and not done special order. I told him that if our $1100 paid for those parts that we'd take them off his hands and to let me know when he'd like to drop them off - since he'd basically said we owned them. He refused. Then he offered to refund half of what was charged. I told him that since no work was ever scheduled or done and no goods were ever delivered, unless he could show me what I signed that said "non-refundable" he needed to do the right thing and return our money. He then stopped responding. I offered him another day to respond in a professional manner but still got radio silence. So now instead of parting as an unfortunate timing incident and a potential future business relationship, it will be a contentious charge back that we'll file with the credit card company - in addition to the many public reviews and warnings I will post so that others don't suffer the same unnecessary situation. Maybe they do good work? I'll never know because they're dishonest and that's all I need to know to stay away and convince others to do the same. read more

My co-op used them to replace a broken door closer. Guy, the owner was extremely responsive and prompt in coming out for an estimate and completing the work. They also followed up and resolved our issue within 24 hours when we decided we needed a little adjustment to the action of our closer, a couple weeks after installation. The door to our restaurant was not closing properly as there was an old pivot hinge on it. We called NYC Doors and More to see if they could fix it. After sending some pictures of the problem they came by the restaurant. They explained exactly what the problem was and how they would go about fixing it. They offered a great long term solution to fix the door. Which was to put a long hinge running most of the length of the door. Appreciate the care they took and the excellent service. They came out with very short notice when my businesses door hinges rusted out. They tried every trick in the book to get our front door fixed and after a short while, we were back up and operating.
