I remain profoundly grateful for this organization and for the people who do this extraordinarily difficult work. Oliver came to us with a complicated history. He is a senior rescue who had already experienced a failed adoption and had spent years learning that human hands were not always safe. KK9R did not minimize his history, rush the process, or try to make him sound easier than he was. They were honest with us about his needs and thoughtful about whether our home was the right one for him. Since his adoption, I have been reminded again and again why KK9R's process is as thorough as it is. Rescue is not simply about getting a dog out of a shelter and into a home. It is about doing everything possible to create a placement that can be permanent, and one in which the dog has a real chance to feel safe, be understood, and have a joyful life. Oliver has now had significant dental work and eyelid surgery, and we are slowly building a life around safety, trust, consent, and predictability. He is funny, stubborn, deeply sensitive, and increasingly joyful. Watching him discover toys, enrichment, comfortable places to sleep, and the simple pleasure of being understood has been one of the great privileges of my life. I am especially grateful to his fosters, his trainers, and the medical, adoption, and administrative teams and volunteers who cared for Oliver before he became ours and who trusted us with his next chapter. The work they do is expensive, complicated, emotionally demanding, and often invisible. If you are considering adopting from KK9R, my advice is simple: take the process seriously. Follow their guidance. Listen when they tell you who a dog is. Understand that the requirements exist because these dogs have already endured enough uncertainty. Often times, you see organizations with adoptable animal pictures asking for application, after you submit lengthy application, often you don't hear from them, and animal is no longer available. And since application is needed for each specific animal, you have to go through the process all over again. KK9R is different; they ask for your application to vet you. You can apply for particular animal or general to get approved. They are very thorough about vetting applicants and very responsive. Then, after you get pre-approved, you can visit the animals. Which makes the process more streamlined and efficient. They do great work with local rescues as well as oversea rescues; particularly from south korea. The dogs are adorable and great quality. Some dogs are rescues from puppy mills, that sells to pet shops. They are also very honest about medical history of the dogs, and what to expect. After adoption, they also do follow ups. Spead the word if anyone is looking for furbaby!

I brought my dog here because I noticed blood in his urine. Long story short(ish), they did tests, prescribed a weeks worth of medication for a UTI and added on some medicated food, just to call me the next day and tell me it wasn't a UTI. I came back, got a sonogram which showed a tumor. On the spot they suggested taking a biopsy which of course I agreed to. They did it twice. They charged me twice. Then they called me to tell me they didn't get a good enough sample. Just like that, my money gone and no answers. I scheduled with a specialist for help. I asked the Dog and Cat Doctor to forward the sonogram results to the specialist. I was told they were not clear enough in the email. So, here I am trying to get a hard copy of my results, they refused to give them to me. They told me to take a photo of them! Finally after talking to the specialist on speakerphone and hearing that they cannot withhold my records, I walked out with my dogs sonogram!

They'll give you the run around, tell you all sorts of reasons you're not a good fit for a dog--first they told me I wasn't a good fit because "the dog needed to be the only pet in the home", I reply saying he will be the only pet in the home (as mentioned in the application I submitted). Then they reply and say "oh okay well this dog is for someone without a very active lifestyle". I reply and say that's fine I'm happy with a little couch potato (which I knew bc I read the dog's profile before applying for him, duh, and I know an 8+ year old dog isn't going to be up for hikes and jogs). Then they say but this dog can't live in an apartment. Then I reply "but you just said he wasn't very active". Then they say "well we meant he can't live in a city environment". So why are you advertising dogs for adoption in the city? Where most people live in apartments? They literally didn't even want to interview me, contact my references, or arrange a meet and greet and instead told me they believe they will be stuck with the dog I applied for "forever". The point of rescues is to place dogs in forever homes, not keep them in shelters or fosters for the rest of their lives. I know the importance of finding a good fit, believe me. I know well-intentioned, kind people are rejected from rescues for all sorts of reasons. I love rescuing. I'm not a first time dog owner, I'm very experienced in +R training, I feed Orijen for crying out loud. Find it hard to believe I'm not a good fit for ANY of their dogs.

We had a horrible experience with another vet in Queens that was much closer to us. Going to St. Mina's is a little out of the way, but we figured we would give it a try. And I'm glad we did. Since 2018 Dr. Benyamen has been taking care of both of our cats, Harry and Merlin. Harry ( also a rescue) was the older one and had a thyroid condition. Dr.Benyamen helped us through the medication process, offering an ear gel rather than a pill. Harry just wouldn't take pills. This was a lifesaver! We would have to bring our Harry in regularly over the years, as he grew older he had more issues. Dr. Benyamen always, always took the time to make sure that we understood all of our choices in Harry's health care. He never pushed us one way or the other, and let us know prices before any tests were given. He even called the day after one of our visits to see how we were all doing. The staff at St. Mina's is exceptional. All of them knowledgeable and compassionate, courteous and professional. Dr. Benyamen and his staff helped us to give Harry the best years of his adult life. Harry took a turn for the worse last week and we took him to Dr. Benyamen. Together we discussed the options. Our Harry's health was suddenly declining quickly and ultimately we had to give in to giving up our Harry, he was just too sick. The experience of letting our Harry go was very emotional. Dr. Benyamen and his assistant let us take our time as we said goodbye to Harry one last time. We were all in the room together as I looked into Harry's eyes and he took his last breath. Having the support of Dr. Benyamen and his assistant there was priceless. I'm writing this review today after we picked up Harry's ashes. Dr. Benyamen doesn't miss a beat. When he saw me waiting. He came over to ask how my husband and I and Merlin were doing. I guess I can say that going to St. Mina's is like going home. They always made us feel like family there. Then called me when to pick her up, prices are affordable they work with you. It's amazing. When I was on my way to pick up my dog I encountered a loose dog about to get hit by traffic! Long story short I managed to drive after him and run out to grab him by his leash, the poor dogs paws were bleeding everywhere he was lost. I brought him to the Humane society since I was going there anyway, they helped us without thinking twice. Scanned him in hopes he was microchipped and he was !!! They contacted the owner and he was in an Uber immediately to the humane society. If that's not a story to show how they are here to help animals and the universe bringing me to them I don't know what is!!!! So thank you soo sooo much for this experience, it was my first time here and I feel so blessed and grateful for people like these to help in this crazy world we live in. Dr. Fisse worked around multiple schedules so that family members traveling from out of state and those working full-time could be present.
