The doldrums of forgotten creativity are slowly starting to lift and I can now see the sun shining through the dirty window panes of not having written much of anything for a few weeks. Since the passing of the love of my life, my most devoted and loyal family member and my protector -- Sydney V laid down her sword and shield three weeks ago. The grief struck my like a cosmic blast to my heart, my days are different -- senses are dull, everything is different. Inasmuch as I would like to write the tale to include proper detail which I'd tell you of the heroics performed by Dr. Hanna on that fateful day. But I just can not do that at this particular time, I need to remain as whole as I have built myself back to be, another crack would be most harmful to me, I hope you all can understand. Don't go there if you care about your pet. I was there and described the symptoms of my dog, not only failed to diagnose the problem correctly, after he check my dog touch his belly and never suggested to do an x-ray or anything else, now I'm at a real place AMC and my dog is getting surgery for cancer removal. I could have done it more than a month earlier if the veterinarian didn't waste time blaming me for feeding my dog with real food not super processed garbage that he highly recommends because in his words is "scientifically made". I'm talking about him being in favor of kibble while telling me that he feeds his dogs with that trash because is great and that he has the option to get expensive food because he has a lot of money while trying to flirt with my girlfriend him speaking French, what a pathetic human being. He wasted time explaining the benefits of kibble instead of diagnosing my dog's problem, at the end just send pills as treatment. I made the mistake to go to this place because is closer to my house, don't make the same mistake take your dog to a real focused veterinarian. Don't bring any female around or he will try to show that he has money and his education. The worst part he asked to add a 5 stars review. I never followed his ask for writing a 5 star review, forgiving his lack of professionalism, because there are other workers trying to make a living there. So it was my very first time going here and I was nervous because I was bringing my pup Sam a bichon shitzu on an emergency base. Over night he presented glucoma symptoms and he was going blind. The receptionist was super nice and saw how nervous my pup was. After a closer inspection the Vet came to the conclusion that my pup who is only 3 was suffering from early stages of glucoma. He prescribed some medication to treat the pain and to subside any effects and let me tell you my pups eyes went from zombie blue to brown in matters of hours. Of course he is blind on the eye with glucoma but thanks to the medication and quick action and of course their refills he is doing better and adapting to this new life!! Animal Empire Veterinary Clinic 71-08 Grand Ave Maspeth NY 11378 718 899-9200 On 2/11/2017, I took my 10 year old Shih Tzu, Bailey in for teeth cleaning and tooth extractions. However, when I picked up my Bailey, he was still very groggy. The office was closing and I was told I could bring him home. When I got outside the office, he did not want to walk so I picked him up and carried him to my car. When I got home I place him in his dog bed so he could sleep. My Sweet Adorable Bailey, never woke up!!!! This dog was very important to me, he was so friendly, loving and kind to all. He was the sweetest animal, I ever knew. Beware of putting your dog under any Anesthesia at this office, I was never warned of any side effects or ever given an emergency contact number. The next day I spoke with Dr Hanna, and said why did you let me take the dog home he was still not fully awake maybe you could of help him. He said we were closing there was nothing I could do. I will never bring another animal here again even with there reasonable fees. I lost my best friend because they did not take good care of my dog. I took my cat to this vet because he couldn't breathe. I had no choice. My cat was In the back for almost 3 hrs alone while I kept asking what's going on. The tech called me and told me he was going to do xrays & bloodwork right away told me how much it was going to cost me. I told him to go ahead. A few minutes passed and the vet called me telling me that he doesn't think my cat needed any xrays or bloodwork. He told me my cat was fine & I told him something is wrong. He told me to take a video if it continues so he can see his breathing. I took a video & he assured me that my cat was fine. By the end of the night I had to rush my baby to the Animal ER & he passed away. This vet is not reliable & only cares about money. I'm furious because I trusted him and my baby died. This vet needs to be closed down. He had animals in the back alone for 6hrs and be over booked the clinic. read more

Not going to lie, I was sitting in the lobby of this place reading reviews and I got a little freaked out on if I should bring my dog here. I had originally brought her last year when I first got her and got her shots here... back then the reviews were decent. When I went to check in today was appalled at the reviews. I had a good experience last year but I wasn't sure if things changed. When I got there, my appointment was at 6:30pm and I arrived at 6:20. No one was in the front so I just waited. I finally got to see the vet at 6:40pm they were running behind because the people before me had just got their car and at the last minute asked to the the nails cut. Once inside, they weighed my pup and did a quick exam. They answered all of my questions. They have her the yearly shots she needed. I asked what to look out for just in case she was allergic and they told me. After, they gave my dog a treat and I went to pay. I dont know how much other places charge for shots but she got all of them for $140. I would recommend this place if you're getting shots. After reading the reviews, I wouldn't be so quick to reccomend for anything that involves putting my dog to sleep. I wouldn't want to take that chance with my baby. read more

During our visit here, they gave us the run around and kept saying that it would only take an additional 30 minutes to be seen after our scheduled appointment. Having already spent over an hour waiting, we decided to just ride it out and wait until our dog was seen. Our dog was scheduled for 4:30 pm and he was not seen until 8:30 pm. We did not leave until nearly 10 pm. Had we been told that we would be waiting for 5 1/2 hours, we would not have stayed. As patients and customers, they owed us that duty to inform us of the situation at hand so that we were able to make a decision. Instead, they made that decision for us by deceiving us about the imminence of when our pet would be helped. They waived the exam fee, but that does not make up for the poor service. Service of doctor when we were actually being helped was good. However, what prompted me to write this review was not the events that transpired during our time at the clinic, but rather it stems from the events that occurred after. The vet who took care of us took a blood test and prescribed three different forms of medication. For one of them, he said he would call us and let us know if it is okay for him to take that medicine--pending the results of the blood test. We did not receive any phone call from him for 3 days after the sale of the medication. We reached out to the clinic and they denied any liability. On a whim, they told us, "Oh yeah, you can give the medicine," as if we were an afterthought. We told them that they had the duty to contact us, especially in light of the already poor service they provided. A different doctor (from the one who initially helped our dog) then proceeded to tell my mother that "if she did not like the service, she could go to a different clinic," and that "they were busy." Edit: Original doctor who worked on our dog called us and apologized for any mishaps, explained the blood work, and was understanding. However, does not excuse the service of the more senior doctor who spoke to my mother. read more

I've been going to animal empire clinic for two years now but ONLY for my dogs annual vaccinations and check ups. This time around I was reading the reviews so I was a little hesitant on bringing my dog back. However, personally I have never had a bad experience here. I decided to give it another go. Again, I only come here for my dogs annual vaccinations NOT emergencies. The vaccinations come in a package deal rabies, DA2PP & Bordetella. All that for 100 along with his examination. ONE thing I will say, I noticed when I got home my receipt says medical waste 2.00. It's 2 dollars (it's fine) however, I did not leave a stool sample so I'm not sure what that is referring too. It might not even be a stool sample! I would just ask if your getting the package :) They were very gentle with my baby and I have no complaints on how I was treated. read more

Here is an update to my prior review. Boy, was I wrong. Dr. Youssef misdiagnosed my cat. I had an emergency when my cat was very weak and moaning in what sounded like pain. I went here so they could check him out. There was no vet in. Given that it was an emergency, a person in the lobby recommended I go to Veterinary Care Group down the street. I did. When I got there, they saw me immediately. My cat was in bad shape. They needed the records from Animal Empire. I had to walk back to Animal Empire to physically sign a release to get them the records. When I finally got them, I met with a vet at VCG regarding the records. When they looked at them, they showed me the results of a blood test taken in August 2019. One of the figures was so low that the vet at VCG told me that had he seen that, he would have recommended that I take my dear cat to the emergency room for a blood transfusion. Animal Empire never even mentioned that test to me. I confronted Dr. Youssef about this. His response? "I said you needed to do follow up blood tests." This was patently untrue. Why? Those blood tests were from August of 2019. I had been back to see Dr. Youssef at least two times subsequently in September and October of 2019. Dr. Youssef never mentioned this problematic blood test to me. I have the vet records and notes. There is nothing in the notes noting the problem with the blood test numbers. In short: Dr. Youssef missed it. I addressed this to him, and he proceeded to tell me that he had told me to follow up with blood tests. As I state above, I had been there at least 2 other times, and he never mentioned this. HIS notes belie his statements. In the end, Veterinary Care Group properly diagnosed my dear cat with diabetes. We are treating him with insulin, etc., and he is doing scores better NO THANKS to Dr. Youssef. Here is another update. Something else Dr. Youssef didn't catch, even though the blood work hinted at it is the fact that my cat is dIabetic. Luckily, a competent vet properly diagnosed it. Youssef didn't. He did a fair job at cleaning Mason's ears. He did an awful job at diagnosing a potentially life-threatening illness. My dear Mason is alive and doing well in spite Dr. Youssef, in no way because of him. Stay away from him. read more

My experience is my reality and they cannot discredit that. If you think this facility is top notch, please check out Alison Animal Hospital. I can't sing their praises enough. They are incredible. Do not settle for this kind of care! Now, I would like to THANK Animal Empire Veterinary hospital for a few things: 1. Giving me an etiquette lesson- for your information, I was being polite when I called your sloppy vet tech and vet, douche bags and idiots. They should be called much worse. But see the condescending tone you just took with me? 2. Big thanks for showing me and the rest of the public that you have no respect for patient confidentiality, as you breached my puppy's on Yelp for the internet to witness. This is the perfect example of why your office is incompetent. And before you remark that patient confidentiality does not exist in the vet world, perhaps you should consider ethics. 3. For your never ending excuses- Let me be clear: YOUR PROFESSIONALISM IS NOT CORRELATED TO MINE. I do not owe it to you to be professional, however you as a business owe it to anyone who steps through your doors to treat them professionally. Now to address your excuses: 1. The temperature on 4/9 at the time of my appointment was 43 degrees. However, I don't care if it was negative 20. You should have had the proper equipment to keep your staff and clients comfortable. Its laughable that your receptionist was bundled up like she was outside in a blizzard on that day. 2.Chris, your condescending douche bag of a vet tech only owns one pair of scrubs?! Doesn't he work in an animal hospital?! Shouldn't there be multiple changes of scrubs available to him to change into whenever necessary!? Give me a break. He did begin examining my puppy and would have never introduced myself if I didn't ask who he was. 3. I find it laughable that your douche bag doctor is well known and highly regarded. I am also sorry that he and your tech were absolutely floored and shocked that I wanted to vaccinate my puppy myself. There is actually nothing shocking about that at all. Shocking would be me wanting to neuter my puppy on my own. That should be shocking. I wanted to have a conversation with the doctor about vaccinating my puppy at home and he refused. Every question I asked in regards to it, he blatantly ignored me. As a highly regarded professional, he should have asked me questions, such as why I wanted to do it at home and how I would go about it. He should have educated me on the benefits of doing it with a veterinarian and the risks involved etc. His silence was his way of essentially persecuting me for it and it is unacceptable. He also MISDIAGNOSED my puppy. He told me an irritation on my puppy's tushy was a Perianal fistula that would never be cured and was something he was born with. He told me to STOP putting neosporin on it and to leave it as is. Good thing I didn't listen. I continued with the neosporin and my puppy's tushy irritation is healed and looks perfect like there was never anything there. He also told me to leave a bowl of food out all day long so my puppy could eat whenever he wanted. I can't believe that a medical professional gave me these instructions. No vet in their right mind would recommend someone to let their dog or puppy eat freely whenever he wanted. Measured cups of food at certain times of day are how you feed any dog and control them for weight gain, etc, especially in pugs who are PRONE to obesity. What a joke. I would never have addressed these issues with you. Mine and my partners skin was crawling while in your office. We felt so uncomfortable and you clearly showed me in your response that my complaints would not have been well received. However, I did not write this review online for you. I wrote it for anyone considering to take their pet to your facility to reconsider their choice. To share my experience with other Yelpers, not for you. I don't owe you anything. Lastly, I would recommend anyone who thinks that this standard of care is acceptable to try out Alison Animal Hospital. Sometimes we don't know any better and think something is fine until we are shown differently. This wasn't the case for me (clearly) but could be for anyone who visits this office and thinks they are getting a standard of care that is acceptable. I invite anyone who is an animal lover and who has a pet to try out Alison Animal hospital. They restored my faith in veterinarians. Their office is warm (both literally and figuratively) and inviting, the rooms are clean, beautiful and well equipped, the technicians are clean and friendly, and the doctors have a care for the animals that you never knew existed. Dr Tarek Youssef was great. Along with Julie the Vet assistant. I took both my Cats TeAmo and Flacka there today and was very pleased. My cats don't usually react well with going to the Vet. I brought my dog here for a check up. He had a bruise that looked like a tumor around his butt which the vet diagnosed as a perianal fistula. Let me start that the vet tech was very strange, barely spoke to us and did not say if he's the vet or the tech. The vet finally came and looked at my mother and I like we had three heads. He examined my dog, while examining the bruise he made my dog bleed and scream. Every time I asked a question, the diagnosis for my dog changed. It went from a heart murmur to a tumor to him dying of cancer. While the front desk staff here is nice, I had a terrible feeling about the vet tech and the vet himself. I got my mastiff mixed puppy spayed here last week on Wednesday. Everything went really well. The doctor did her blood work prior to the surgery to make sure she was healthy. Do not come here. This vet messed up my cats euthanasia appointment by not having me sign the proper documentation upon my initial visit. I visited this vet in person, spoke to them on the phone twice asking what my father needed to bring in when he dropped off my fur baby. They verbalized time and time again that nothing was needed. My baby's appointment was Wednesday @2pm and they called Thursday @6pm to say the papery wasn't signed and they had called both me and my mom the day before; we both looked thru our call history and no missed calls, no voicemails no emails from this vet. They then proceeded to disrespect me on the phone for over an hour when I expressed how negligent this was. They even went SO FAR AS TO SAY WHO DROPS OFF THEIR CAT AND DOESN'T STAY! Then when I asked to speak to the manager the same vet assistant came on the phone to pretend to be the vet and proceeded with the same blame tone. This vet took no accountability for messing up an appointment and having me and whole family come back to the vet to sign paperwork and say goodbye to our cat again! Putting us thru and emotionally draining day twice in a row. The vet refused to compensate for this error holding to the fact that they did nothing wrong. Unbelievable. read more

I took my puppy to be spayed. Dr. Hanna was dressed my puppy and brought her out to me in his arms. I really appreciate the care and dedication he has to his clients. Two weeks later I made an appointment because I was concerned about her healing. The entire staff were there to treat my concerns and my puppy with so much care. They were very accommodating with the time I needed. Dr. Hanna was there to address my concerns and took care of my puppy. My puppy was treated and we were in and out within 20 minutes. Dr. Youssef was there every step of the way for this process. He would go over everything in detail whether it be in the office or over the phone. He preformed the surgery and everything went well. Dr. Youssef has an amazing tech staff as well, especially Malek. Malek was the tech who took care of Lila the night after her surgery. He also has been there every step of the way the with Lila. My cat needed an operation and I am glad that I found this office. With the corona virus restrictions, I had to stay in the reception area, but it was very clean and the receptionist was very nice. The vet tech was very helpful in explaining things and it was easy to schedule a convenient appointment. The veterinarian called after the operation to say how things went and called again when the pathology report arrived. I felt that my cat had been in good hands and the price for all this was a lot less expensive than other vets in the area had estimated. read more

Dr. Hanna is the sweetest most caring veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure to work with. Our first encounter was when he opened his office to us on a holiday weekend because my dog has sticky bleeding from an between her shoulder blades. All the offices in Astoria were closed. He and his assistant Chris, shaved her behind the shoulders and removed puss and blood from a hole probably from an infected bug bite. (Her previous vet said it was most likely a lipoma, common for her breed.) We took her home and he gave her 2 courses of antibiotic over 2 weeks. She got much better. He saw her several times after, not charging us for her follow-ups. When she presented with a nodule under her upper eyelid that was making her scratch her eye and appeared to be quite uncomfortable, we took her to him again. He said due to her age, he recommended we see someone who did laser or cryogenic freezing. He said he would cut it off, if he were going to do it. We saw 2 vets, one in Manhattan and an ophthalmologist in Forest Hills, that perform laser and cryo and both said they would also cut it out. We consulted our consciences. Since she was so comfortable with him and had been such a caring vet, we decided we should let him do the procedure. Since he was going to be putting her under, he recommended cleaning her teeth and also opening the wound from the abscess and cleaning it out thoroughly, as the wound still had a tiny hole that never completely closed, as she occasionally leaked fluid from the little hole. He lanced the nodule, cleaned her teeth and cleaned out her wound. He was done in an hour and called as as soon as she got out of surgery to tell us she was fine. He had quoted us 1500.00 for all 3 things which was less that both the other vets quoted for just the eye procedure. When I got the bill, there was a huge "good customer discount". We paid less than half! We recently took her again because, what presented as a lipoma on her left front paw was growing very quickly. He collected a sample and it came back as a spindle tumor. He recommended removal asap as it was quite an aggressive tumor. He gave us the name of a surgeon, Dr. Tomas Infernuso. Dr. Hanna assured us we were in good hands. Akira returned home yesterday from her surgery with Dr. Infernuso with Dr. Hanna as his assistant. Dr. Infernuso called us, just as Dr. Hanna had, just after the surgery to say she had a successful surgery. He was able to remove 95% of the tumor. She would be in the office for several more hours as they observed her and took the fluids from her drain. Due to the nature of the tumor there was no telling if it would grow back in 2 weeks or 2 years, but he had removed as much as he possibly could. When we went to pick her up, Dr. Hanna explained her meds and how to check and remove the fluid from her drain. Even though she tried to bite Chris (Dr. Hanna's assistant), whom she normally is very gentle with, when he tried to clean her wound, he played it off as if it was all part of the job. He said with a modest smile, "It's ok. It happens". She is home today. Although her leg doesn't look pretty right now, due to being shaved, the blood and the betadine to clean the wound, she is already improving quickly. She just walked to the kitchen to see what I was making. I am, and always have been extremely grateful for the care given to her at Animal Empire. Dr. Hanna has a genuine caring nature, a sweet disposition, and my dog loves him. He and his staff have always been incredibly accommodating and polite to us. I've been rescuing animals for over 20 years, This is the best veterinary hospital and staff I've ever used for all my pets and rescues! I have brought over 30 dogs and cats including feral cats. I would just like to put this out there about a month ago I brought my cat smokey into this place as per recommendation by a few ppl I brought him in for a check up and because he would have these coughing fits the attending vet totally disregarded my concern went on to give him his yearly rabies and clip his nails there was no thorough examination he did not offer to run any kind of test told me my cat was healthy and sent me on my way... yesterday I found smokey lifeless I brought him to another vet because they were closed I had them do an autopsy which showed my poor boy had some sort of lung disease and was told if testing was done it would've been found ... so this morning I call up and explain because of the negligence of that attending vet my cat is now dead the manager calls me back right off the bat defensive saying that his staff said I wanted to wait till dr hannah came back which is completely bullshit telling me I'm lying about the autopsy that theres no way an autopsy was done that quick smfh no compassion no nothing this place is a piece of shit and I hope who ever brings there animals here will reconsider read more

I started going to this vet since last year and i never had problem with them, there prices are great. but this year , they have a new staff and she was so rude to me & she was not very helpful at all. I was so upset of how i was treated and very disappointed. read more

tell me how are we harassing you by asking questions and we paid for the service? that make no sense. take your business somewhere else because their staff are not specialized or trained for the job they are in for. please look at this facility reviews before even giving them business. they don't know how to provide customer service. their's no professionalism in this place. i rather go and spend my money somewhere else. all their staff are extremely rude and not helpful. all i hear from them is telling me that it's better to purchase the packages they have because i am saving money but in reality you are not. they just want to make more money of you for no reason and telling you false informations. they refused to sell me a medication i needed for my dog because they want to perform a surgery and i have explained to them i am not comfortable performing any surgery on my adult dog. all they want to do is take your money and not giving you any options. i also brought in my new puppy and they couldn't tell the difference of 7weeks to 13 weeks and they have given her a vaccine shot that she's not supposed to get when she's closer to 4 months. i don't like leaving reviews on businesses but i strongly believe that this place should not even be open for business. there is so many vet clinic that is way better and does not treat their customer with no respect. don't be fooled. beware! read more

Does anyone know where Dr. Hanna went/is? I was recently advised that he is no longer at his original practice and I need to consult with him. I have never came across a Vet like him and would like to continuing using him as our vet. read more

Dr. Youssef gave my cat Mia and outstanding checkup. We have been struggling with an annoying rash. He took time to break down every aspect of the situation on hand and gave us the best approach. He is extremely knowledge and passionate for his work. I am so happy our paths crossed and I couldn't trust anyone more with my pets care. read more

It was about a year ago when I first brought my dog here after an emergency visit for a follow up. Dr Hanna spent a lot of time attending to my dog, took a few samples and was told to wait for results. A few days after, he spoke to me personally for 15 mins on the phone explaining what was the cause and what we can do to help. About 1.5 month ago, my dog developed allergies and I took my dog back to this vet and this time I met Dr Youssef. Again, very attentive, down to each details. Very fair price points as well. My dog loves them both. I will definitely bring all my dogs here from now on. read more
