Absolutely zero support for students. Guidance counselors are not helping students at all through course selections and to graduate with a specific degree....good luck with consistent classes. My son's last semester the final course he needed was dropped due to it not having a minimum of students enrolled in it. They told him sorry.... And wouldn't offer another elective to fulfill his requirement. Their solution was to come back in the fall to take it. More money. More money. Totally incompetent support. Stay away. Pick another college. Even if they dangle a partial scholarship. Both campuses have been the same experience. We tried to switch sophomore year, but had to go back to the NYC campus for the last ones. Cause....guess what most classes were virtual for mathematics majors and per my kid not acceptable for his major. Cause there was a lag in asking a question and support all around. 5 Year B.Arch, doesn't prepare you for the real world of architecture AT ALL! I found 3 of the 8 design courses to be of any use. Core classes were a repeat of high school. When I went there until 2014, Edward Guiliano was the scummy president, I hope the new guy is better, otherwise this school is just a waste of your time. You are better off studying architecture abroad, specially in Europe where you can get a REAL education without large associated costs. read more

Most of these reviews are outdated, so here's the update. Manhattan Campus Sophomore, Class of 2020: I can honestly say that NYIT was the worst school ever to me when I first got there, until I got involved on campus. NYIT has a very unique and welcoming environment and only those who leave in the first year miss out on all that NYIT has to offer. Things which are included in our tuition that students don't take advantage of. If I could've gone to a different college, I'm not sure I would've because NYIT took an under-prepared high school graduate and motivated her to be the best Surgeon she can be. I can say that our Financial Aid Office is filled with snakes and liars, but the key to that is simply getting a job as a Student Ambassador so you can see who to get fired and who to avoid. I missed a semester at NYIT because of the school's terrible Fin. Aid and Bursar Office, but I didn't let them stop me from pursuing my dreams in the medical field. So, for those who just go to school and then go home, of course they don't like NYIT. But ask those who are active members of their clubs and even student leaders on campus, we love it here and we take all that NYIT has to offer and we learn from it. read more

I just started my 2nd semester in the MFA Graphic Design program, and so far I'm fairly satisfied. The program is only a few years old, so there are some kinks that need to be worked out. NYIT is world renowned for their Computer Graphics department; they pretty much pioneered 3-D animation, which is why I wanted to attend (though I'm a Design major, I can take computer graphics and animation classes as electives). The Art department in general is good, though I think the facilities could be better (for example, the have a decent gallery space on the 11th floor, but they only show faculty work. Wha???) The administration is okay, I've had good experiences with them. They've been friendly and helpful. All in all, the school is decent. Would I decide to come here if I were an English major or something? No. It's a TECHNOLOGY school. Hopefully a couple of years down the road, I'll still be able to say "I'm glad I went to NYIT". read more

I tried to apply for a graduate program in this institution but they require an evaluation done by third parties of your transcripts to get accepted if you are an international student. The thing is that they just inform you about this requirement after you have payed and submitted your whole application. It costs about $200 to get this and it requires a lot of bureaucracies to get it done, like sending your official transcripts via regular post office(which will also cost you). If for some reason your physical mail gets damaged for some reason on the way, they will require you to send it again as this mail must be sealed by your former university(where you graduated as undergrad). They dont refund you if you wanna withdraw your application at this point. So you already burned like $100 or more to get to that point. It was really frustrating for me since I really wanted to go there. read more

I'm perfectly fine wth this school choice, but I'm definitely not convinced that it's the greatest school ever. Comparitively to other schools, I'd say it would be about equal. I love its location, but that's probably why it's a hefty price to go there. I would rate it higher but the cost of living at the dorms are pretty high in my opinion... read more

Terrible, poorly trained and very rude security guards at the entrance to 26 W 61st. Street. Someone needs to educate them to speak with a visitor, they need to get off their fat asses and politely approach the visitor instead of yelling from behind their desk while seated. they call themselves a "transfer friendly" college. Nope, they are not. As an international transfer student, I had so much stress dealing with transferring my credits and getting them evaluated just in time for registration- they got mine 100% done after add/drop week, which is too late, so I ended up taking subjects that I have already previously taken (it was hard for me to "guess" because the courses from both schools had different course titles). The admissions people aren't knowledgable and they are rude thinking they own the place. Even getting a simple task done like getting my ID done was a hassle, the security guard who did mine was so arrogant! And they call themselves a "dry campus", one of my professors brings a bottle of beer to class sometimes. On the other hand, class sizes and location are nice. Some of my professors are really helpful and often offer many extra credit programs/assignments you can do. read more

This school is not good at all. Honestly don't waste your time, money, or emotions on this school. Paying $20,000 for a school that basically consists of 4 office buildings is a waste of money. I remember going here in 2004 as a freshman and becoming very disenchanted with the college experience. I left after my first year like many of the other freshman kids I knew. Most of the teachers I had were good except when it came to math, teachers were not good at effectively communicating the material. Not much diversity within the student body. Very hegemonic student body consisting of architecture majors. Also being a broke college student in a school in Midtown Manhattan without a cafeteria it can get expensive buying lunch in the area. Clubs/ Student Activities are pretty much non existent. The only cool thing was the free passes they would give you to exercise at the west side YMCA, because the school doesn't have any amenities to offer. The staff there especially staff in the Financial Aid dept act incompetent and/or inept. All they want to do is force you to take out private Sallie Mae loans which is one of the worst lenders. NYIT 1 star meaning Eek! Methinks not, describes you perfectly. read more

Our nonprofit had an event recently in the 1871 Broadway theater. Jennifer, our events coordinator did a superb job setting up the space for us, making sure AV was working properly, and our guests accommodated. The space was superb for our event, the pricing was reasonable, and we felt exceedingly fortunate to have found this space. Kudos to NYIT! read more

Everything about this school is stupid. None of the faculty know what they are doing. No one gives you clear directions. They make going to school 20x harder than it is. Dorming at this school is pointless, as well. The dorms are located 30-50 blocks away from the school and they do not provide metro cards. After paying almost $8,000 a semester in dorming, I also have to pay approximately $30 a week just to get to school! It is awful. This was such an awful decision I made and I regret it everyday. It's a 'for profit' college in the worst of terms. My son is a 1600 sat student and they gave him the worst educational experience I've ever seen. This school was a complete waste of my time, money and effort. I didn't get half of what i expected from a 23,000 school (it actually went up to 25,000 this year). A lot of the faculty are foreigners and you can't understand a word he or she says and it can be very frustrating, especially when you're trying to learn pre calc. The area is nice but there should be more buildings, its just not enough. I transfered out of there after my first year and i've been happy ever since. The only thing good about is the advisors and faculty are nice and they do want to help you. A lot don't but a lot do. NYIT just wants your money PERIOD. only consider this as your last choice read more

This is for the manhattan campus in Columbus circle, the Comm Arts program under college of arts and sciences there are so many schools at Nyit people should specify. I'm not sure what departments most of these vague mediocre reviews come from but I took tv, journalism and film classes and loved them all and I think it's one of the best in the city if you compare it with what the nyu and Columbia kids get and how much they pay it's pretty much the same. The film classes especially very hands on, great labs and programs and equipment the old professors who haven't made work or done anything in DECADES gotta go though, they're bitter annoying and clueless when it comes to our needs and they really love to hear themselves talk about irrelevant topics- they bring absolutely nothing to that program and essentially have nothing to teach but the others who are in the business and film/tv industry and working on actual movie productions and studios are just the best and awesome, they're very very knowledgable and most importantly up to date!! I made a short in one of my film classes that my prof helped a lot with and encouraged me to continue and it was accepted to several competitions and fests and I love her for that because her guidance really inspired me to keep at it and now I'm working on a bunch of projects and ADing on an indie that will most likely be going to Sundance next year which was a dream of mine.
