I lived in Asia for 6 years. Probably makes me a bit judgmental? The sushi was actually extremely good, 5 The rice, spot on. A staple MUST are the side dishes, kimchi etc - none. The Bibimbap, nothing remotely outstanding. It had barely any culby or rice. Was filled with peppers and lettuce. Yes, it had an egg and a few mushrooms. Didn't come with broth. Speaking of soup. The 2 options were Italian wedding and crab bisque. Definitely not complimentary however I got, maybe it was lobster bisque? It was very good. There's no choice on the Gochujang hot sauce. Overall - I had some really great expectations. In some cases my expectations were met, in other cases, this place left me wanting more. Let's start with the decor. One word comes to mind: Dilapidated. The walls look tired. Decor is old and worn. Seating units are very old and uncomfortable. There's no overall theme ... it's like an Italian restaurant mixed with a sushi bar mixed with diner food. Overall very weird. Now let's get to the food. My husband and I ordered a spicy tuna and salmon roll as an appetizer. Overall, good sushi. No major complaints. Our waitress had informed us that the special of the night was crab cakes, so that's what I ordered. Now I had mistakenly assumed that the crab cake special came with a lower price than the listed menu price... wrong. So for $40 I got 2 crab cakes, asparagus, and mac and cheese. It was good, but not worth $40. Service was good. Friendly. No complaints there. Overall, Im glad I experienced it once. I didn't exactly leave eager to return. my wife, daughter, and I stopped tonight as we haven't been to nykos in years. I often hear people say how good the sushi was and I always remembered it being bad but we stopped anyway. I remembered correctly, the sushi was very overpriced and I've never seen such small sushi rolls. The spicy tuna roll for example was about the same diameter as a quarter. there was so much rice in all the rolls as well. We spent $100 on sushi for my wife and I as well as a shrimp cocktail and some rice for my 5 year old daughter and all the sushi could have fit on a dinner plate. the cocktail was $15 and had 5 shrimp in it. Our server was great, very friendly and accommodating. If you want much better sushi at a much better price go right down the road to Osaka. read more

Always nice for a sushi lunch! I come here a couple times a year and always enjoy myself. The decor is really dilapidated and worn but the staff is always very friendly and service is efficient. Our relatively large order of sushi didn't take long and it was delicious as usual. Also their sushi menu is pretty extensive. I've found a few fish bones in my rolls but that's not very abnormal when youre eating a dish with fish. It's always pretty empty of customers but maybe I just come at odd times. Disappointing to say the very least. This place has potential but is poorly run. Anyone who's ever worked in a restaurant can tell you this place desperately needs help. The bartender is a girl who looks about 17 and clearly has no experience behind the bar. Another server told us she didn't know the answer to any of our questions about the menu because it was her first day and she didn't bother to ask anyone else. The POS system they use is the Toast system that i'm familiar with and I watched the bartender take a whole half an hour to even place our order after she took it. It was not complex. The poor girl is friendly but needs a significant amount of training. Where is the manager? Now for the food... they brought out my friends food ahead of mine for some reason instead of waiting and serving us at the same time. So he was finished eating before I even got my food. No sense of urgency in any of the staff. She just kept telling me it was being plated. The sushi was not worth the wait. Comparable to gas station sushi. And the service was truly amateur. My brother has been raving about this place and finally had a chance to take me here. He said this place has the best sushi he has ever eaten. After being here I would agree with him, I had the Green mountain roll - cucumber, tobiko, avocado, broiled yellowtail. This had a nice sweet flavor and was very delicious. Hostess was rude and said go out back outside to the window for pick up not even apologizing for not even informing me Over the phone about where to pick up take out . "NAME?!!" I always have great service here and the food is always excellent. The staff are super nice and very friendly. The menu is typical sushi, made the way it's supposed to be, and fresh. Not sure what all the hype is about eating here. The waitress was friendly but didn't really seem rushed. There was hardly anyone there. The food was not worth the money at all. Our steaks were supposed to be cooked medium. Both were well done and chewy. We didn't complain. Neither of us like to send food back, so we ate them. Mashed potatoes were dry. Basically like a baked potato just smushed on the plate... The toppings on the steak didn't seem to pair well and were not tasty at all. We also had some type of shrimp sushi (cooked) as an appetizer. It tasted ok. Nothing special. Portions were nice but it just felt like an overly expensive dinner to not really enjoy. I would run from this place. The outside looks really promising up to date and just really nice looking. But once you go in there is no one in there. We went for our anniversary and we were the only ones there. They have cheap rolled paper on the tables. Then I'm assuming the owner came into the side we were in and fired up this huge tv and starts watching the football game. Like come on. Then the sushi comes out smelling fishy which is a sign of old fish. We are avid fishers and I have left fish in the fridge for days and never smelled fishy as that sushi. We eat a lot of it also and the sad part is Sam's clubs sushi blows this place out of the water. The minute I walked in the joint, bump bump, I could tell you were a restaurant of distinction and I'm a real big spender, Hey big spender... ( break, pick up chorus ) sashimi and sushi over to ooo... my bar... ( Snap fingers while you do this and act slick. ) And so I did! Nice fish, so fresh, bright and as I watched the rolls being made by Kay Lee my mouth cried for wasabi and pickled ginger. I watched her make awesome rolls, make gorgeous full petal rose buds of pickled ginger and explain some of it to me, as the three others in my party were being seated. I picked up a sheet and pencil from the sushi and sashimi bar and joined the others. Well, I guess you could say I went a little crazy, my Mom always said I had champagne taste with a beer pocket book. I ordered a 4 Four Corner's Roll with shrimp tempura, crab, cucumber, masago, unagi and served with a spicy sauce, a Boston Roll with shrimp, lettuce, avocado and mayo, a Pacific Roll with shrimp, crab, avocado, cream cheese, lettuce, eel and a spicy sauce, a Philadelphia Roll with salmon, cream cheese and avocado, a Shrimp Tempura Roll, a Spider Roll with deep fried soft shell crab and avocado. Yes I did! Not only did I order all of this as a starter for the four of us to pick up, plunge into the sauces and then plop in our mouths, look at each other like of my gosh is this wonderful or what, but I also ordered the lobster salad topped with roe. The lobster salad was delectable and laced with just the right amount of heat. The owner of the restaurant donned his chef's hat as he came out to help make our astronomical sushi plates. One other ordered the Flowering Onion for us to share and it was huge and very tasty. Needless to say we were pretty well feeling stuffed after finishing our crab bisque and New England clam chowder. The soups were good, but not the best. The sushi was incredible. They make their own shrimp egg rolls, these were large, crunchy and had a nice amount of shrimp, the flavor was okay, I have had better. The menu is fairly diversified, our entrees were large portions and all came with plentiful sides. The crispy skinned duck breast was tender and full of flavor with no grease, it was served with a roasted parsnip puree and caramelized fall vegetables, outstanding, all of it! The NY Strip was ordered MR and came out a bit more done than that, but the flavor was there. Too many other wonderful choices on the menu to order a strip steak, in my opinion, I save steaks for a good steak house. The other two entrees were a seafood newburg served over rice which had huge chunks of lobster tail, large sweet and tender scallops and whole shrimps topped with asiago cheese, very good indeed, the seafood was very generous in portions but the sauce could have used a bit more sherry. I had the chicken cordon bleu served with a warm potato salad and roasted vegetables. I loved the way the crunchy outside breast was coated in panko crumbs and the inside was so tender and gooey. I have not had this dish in ages and I was thrilled and very impressed. The breast was sliced so that it could be filled with the ham and cheese and then rolled. I really loved this dish, it was perfection. As we were leaving the owner brought out his beautiful baby girl who was waving to us as he was thanking us for coming in. Very hospitable staff, very warm and welcoming feeling to Nyko's. I am torn between four or five stars, but since I can not wait to go back and try more and it was an awesome dining experience, I am going for the gold, this time around 4.5 stars. For the local folks who knew this as Lombardo's and miss them dearly, check out Nyko's you will be very pleased with this latest addition to the Johnstown restaurant scene. Harrigan's, I love you but you now have competition with this new game in town. The best place in town for sushi and sashimi, no kidding! The sushi was really good! We had the guacamole, volcano, Alaska, spicy tuna, and spicy yellowtail rolls. I forget the other one in the picture, but it was my least favorite. The server was very nice and attentive. They also have a patio you can sit and eat at when the weather is nicer. All in all it was a good experience. read more

We lived in Johnstown for several years, and followed these nice folks from their sushi place / bar - Four Corners, to their new location when they renamed the place NyKo's. I can honestly say that it was a lot of fun watching them open up the place and work hard to make a diverse menu that would appeal to a broad range of customers. First - we always loved the sushi. For a restaurant a long way from the ocean, we always found our sushi to be fresh and flavorful, and the variety of items was really amazing. We would satisfy our need for sushi once a week, and soon became regulars here. Their regular menu was also quite good, and we loved the butternut squash soup, seafood Newburg, and their take on beef stroganoff. Whenever we ordered steak, it was perfectly cooked and served at the right temperature. Second - yes, the decor is a little 'different.' It didn't really bother us much - I was happy that they spent the money on quality ingredients and an outdoor deck than on changing the italian theme to the restaurant. The deck was a lot of fun to enjoy in the warm weather during the Summer months. Rest assured that we will definitely stop in and enjoy some of their fine food whenever we are in Johnstown! read more

Went back to give it a try for dinner food was here service was not so great and we went up meeting the owner who is an absolute jerk. He said he owned a restaurant in New York and that is how he came up with the name of his restaurant. My boyfriend and I walked into Nyko's and we were seated in a decent amount of time. It took 10 minutes to have a waitress come over to our table and get our drinks. We were also ready to order by then so we did. It then took an HOUR to even get asked if the food that was sitting out was ours. It wasn't. Then the lady said she didn't see our ticket and we proceeded to leave. The place was EMPTY. So there is no excuse for this. We will NOT be coming back. The service is AWFUL. read more

A favorite go to restaurant for me and the family when we want unique fish dishes or sushi. It really is one of a kind for this area. NYKO's is proudly owned by a Korean chef who adds his own flair to Asian dishes as well as American cuisine. The restaurant us very clean and spacious and is host to large or small crowds for a night of entertainment and great eats. My favorite thing is their large assortment of sushi. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are brilliantly prepared. Among my favorites are the volcano roll which is topped with sauteed lump crab meat and a spicy mayo. Add your level of spiciness by choosing 1 to 10 stars. I choose 7stars but clearly a preference thing. The four corners roll has a layer of eel which always makes for a tasty roll. And simple but a favorite is the Philadelphia roll which contains salmon, cream cheese, and avocado. Not in the mood for sushi?? I go fir the rack of lamb which is broiled flavorful, tender, and has tge right amount of rarity to retain all of its juices and natural flavors. Its served over balsamic glazed baby potatoes and roasted asparagus. Delicious!!!! In a beefy mood???? The New York strip is the most flavorful cut of meat in town. Always cooked to perfection and sure to please. The service is always on point and the bar is a nice place to just have drinks or eat your meal if you're dining alone. Completely disjointed restaurant. The servers wear diner-bowling-shirt style uniforms, in a 70s Italian decor, serving Italian and Japanese food. Not only is the decor outdated, but we had to push everything to one corner of the table to reduce the wobbling. The menu features a tacky note stating that to avoid waste, bread service is by request only. Naturally when you get through the feelings of gluttony for wanting bread with your meal and request it, you will not receive it. The pasta was okay but had way too much sauce; my partner's sushi got his stamp of approval. I'd try it again but I can never figure out when they're open when I drive by, since they don't have the hours posted on the front doors. read more

Dirty windows, paid 28 dollars for a pork chop, potatoes and veggies that I could have been made at home by a teenager for 6 dollars. Waited forever for drinks from the not busy bartender. The food has historically been quite good, but something changed recently and I'll get my food elsewhere from now on. The majority of the staff were not wearing masks above their nose and constantly removed them to talk to each other. Many of the staff were not wearing them at all. Despite this, I waited for my takeout order and 45 minutes later we get our food. I asked for extra wasabi and the woman behind the sushi bar used her bare hand to put it into a to-go cup, which is disgusting. Not wanting to complain, I figure I simply won't eat the wasabi - gross, but whatever. Finally, we take our food home only to find that our sushi wasn't cut into pieces. My boyfriend and I chose to have dinner at Nyko's Monday night. Big mistake. We ordered a variety of foods, with the intention of taking food home. Our appetizer, flat bread pizza, was the only thing worth mentioning. The sushi rolls the we got were "stale" and the rice had a sour taste to it. I got chicken teriyaki as an entree and my boyfriend chose the truffle burger. I honestly thought my teriyaki was something out of a can. Rice has no flavor, vegetables were either under cooked or overcooked, the chicken had no color and looked like it was microwaved and the teriyaki sauce looked like the gravy you get out of the top of a can of dog food. The truffle burger was supposed to be medium rare. The cook missed that memo because the burger came out as a hockey puck, served between two slices of stale, overdone ciabatta bun. It came with sweet potato fries (any other side option was never given as an option). The fries were cold and soggy. Our waitress seemed to be completely enthralled by clearing off tables and getting her other work done instead of attending to the customers she had. We had to ask her for everything and she only ever offered to refill our water glasses after she brought us the check. read more

This is by far the best sushi I have found between Philadelphia and pittsburgh. The owners are creative and kind. The sushi chef travels to NYC every week for fresh fish. She has created novel rolls (ask for the rise and shine rolls with bacon!!) and understands the meaning of omakase (chefs choice and usually about 9 courses) There is a lot more infusion here than just japanese/american! (Ask for the family made kimchi if you're a Korean food fan) as well as vietnamese ideations! Move beyond sushi and ask for some Kobe beef, or miso cod (non sushi lover friendly) Bonus if you can get in on a night with live entertainment and a wine pairing!!! This is by far the weirdest place I have ever been to!! It says they are Asian fusion, but there is a little bit of everything on the menu. Steaks, chicken, pasta, sushi, curry...I wanted to tell the owner to pick a type of food and stick to it!! We had a large party of nine and the service was horrible. It took us over two hours to order our food and actually finish!! The waitress came over initially with the help of another, but we never saw the other one after that. One of the people in our party asked for something he saw on their menu online and she came back three times telling him each time that those were not on the regular menu. I never saw a drink menu, and had to ask for the wine list. Luckily I spotted someone drinking a certain beer from across the room. When she brought my beer she was holding the cold glass under her arm so needless to say it wasn't cold anymore, or clean...I think I'll pass on the glass. The food, even though it took forever to get, was really good though. Everyone at our table ordered something different and everyone was pleased. I got a spicy tuna roll and a California roll. I was pleasantly surprised. The decor of the building is just off though. From the outside it is a beautiful building with a great patio that lures people in. Inside was another story though. It was dirty looking and very outdated. When we walked in there were painting supplies on top of the coat rack which leads me to believe they might be trying to improve the inside, but seriously, you can't even hide your home improvement supplies?!?! This is one of my favorite places in Johnstown. The service is consistently great! My glass is always kept full and anything we needed has been brought promptly. I enjoyed the sushi, as I usually order. My family had a few special requests for their food, which was carried out exactly as they asked for. The portions were plentiful. It seems to be a hit or miss with this place. I've been 3 or 4 times and the first time was great, the second time was horrible and the other times were okay, Just okay. There sushi is amazing but it seems everything else just cant hold a candle to it. I ordered a screw driver the first time and the orange juice was BROWN. It tasted terrible. However the chef actually squeezed fresh orange juice to make me a new one. Anyways, we will continue to go here because it is a good restaurant and the sushi is great. read more
