My wife was raised Lutheran and was looking for a church in Austin to become part of and to teach our kids about her religion (we are an interfaith family, I am Jewish). We did a tour with Beth Knippa and sent our oldest for a shadow day after submitting an application. My child had an OK experience but said "other kids couldn't follow directions" (we were also told by faculty on pick up that my child followed directions and participated better than current students). We later got an e-mail from Beth asking how it went which I responded to positively and a short follow up later saying Redeemer "was not the proper learning environment for them". After the feedback we'd received so far this was surprising so we e-mailed Beth to ask if she could provide more context on their decision. She adamantly refused to provide any additional information (after my child had spent the entire day there and my wife did a follow up meet and greet with my younger child). Overall, it seems like interfaith families are out for the school - of course they couldn't cite that specifically (even if you're actively looking for a church community and 1/2 raised in the faith). Typically I wouldn't post an online review but both my wife and I were appalled by the lack of transparency in their decision which leads us to believe a lack of openness in the community to families from different backgrounds. We're still considering churches/a school that are the best fit for our kids and in hindsight are relieved that Redeemer made their true colors known early. It's certainly not the welcoming Christian community we'd hoped for.

Both have made National Honor Society, received recognition in extra-curricular activities, and are taking college level courses. This is culture at Brentwood, to work hard and push past personal limitations. They are being prepared for college and life but still are allowed to be kids and have fun. I have my kids here for 3 reasons: 1) the academic expectations are substantially higher than most public schools and many private schools so being taught at levels well beyond the standard will set them up for success in whatever they choose to do, 2) they can participate in any extra-curricular activities they want to be in, 3) it is a Christian school, meaning the moral and ethical standards they are held to are high. The community is great as well which makes it even better for parents and students. Is it perfect? No, but if you want the best for your kids, academically, spiritually and help them grow to be strong minded adults who add to society this is a place for them. Brentwood students compete and win at high levels in state competitions for academics, arts, sports, etc. Tuition is less than many other private schools yet they are still at or near the top in academic ratings and categories. It has been a great investment in our kids.

In elementary, they are also developing good social skills, learning responsibilities, and planning skills for future academic success. (For example, Paragon gives kids a daily planner to track their homework assignments and get parent signatures for visibility). Manor High is such a GREAT school for so many reasons but for me as a parent of 3 kids w/ 2 of them being twins the thought of college costs can be very scary!! BUT Manor High School has partnered up with the ACC in Elgin to offer a free early college program which my twins are in the first class of the Early College program & through this program students can earn an Associates degree by the time they graduate from high school & let me repeat.. This program is FREE!!! All tests, books, courses, bus rides to Elgin ACC, ect ALL FREE!! And not to mention the support for the students is awesome!! Manor ISD as a whole is really growing & I just love how the schools bring in programs for the students to be a part of & to be more supported. Now I'm not saying Manor High is perfect but I am saying as a parent my experience w/ Manor High School is that I do feel that during the times I did have an issue or concern I was heard, which means so much! As a parent of 16 year old boy/girl twins who are in 11th grade it really helps to know that if I ever need extra support or have concerns about my kids schooling that I can reach out to someone at MHS to get that support! Anyone with teenagers knows that sometimes us parents need ALL the help we can get to make sure our kids stay on the right path & to let them know that they can reach for the stars!! Roughly half of the students I know who attended Hyde Park no longer believe in God and directly point to this school as one of the primary reasons. I've never been religious but if I was that would be a horrifying statistic to me. And for those who are not religious, this isn't because the school promotes open minded thinking but rather is so far down the evangelical black hole that it ruins religion for most. Oh and if you actually care about the education aspect (which most parents at this school do not and are primarily focused on religion), check where their graduates go to college. The majority of them go to small, relatively obscure colleges because the school is not focused on education, but primarily religion. Students who attend a private school and pay for an elite education should not be struggling to get into Texas A&M if they're just outside of the automatic admit percentile. Yikes. Glad I graduated from a different school.
