UPDATE: O'Brien responded to my complaints and has made things right. They are refunding the costs of the springs to us, and gave us an extended warranty on them for the trouble. They have additionally let us know that they have scheduled a meeting with their staff to ensure that everyone knows how to handle this situation should it arise with any other customers. We are pleased to see the speed with which they have worked to address a frustrating situation for us and their dedication to ensuring it does not happen in the future. ORIGINAL REVIEW: The springs on our garage door broke. We had a copy of the Lifetime Guarantee information on our garage door that was installed by O'Brien from our home's previous owners, so I called to get it fixed. They found our home in their system (under prior owner's name), updated to our information and sent a tech out the next day (the only good thing they did). While I noted in the fine print that the lifetime guarantee only covered parts and not labor, so I expected to pay labor costs, when the tech arrived and inspected everything, he told us that they were not able to honor the lifetime guarantee and that we would have to pay for the new springs in addition to the labor. We were not able to get a straight answer as to why this was the case - we were told there was new ownership and they didn't accept the guarantees, that their records show only the motor was covered and not the springs (the guarantee certificate very explicitly states that 2 high lifecycle springs are covered), that maybe the install was done by someone else using their name (even though they told us they had records covering the motor). They offered us a discounted rate on the springs, but I am very disappointed that they are using such shady practices. I will not be using their services for our garage door ever again, and recommend everyone stay away. read more

Just moved into a new home- wanted to get some remotes programmed- gate and garage doors (different manufacturers)- as well as add some exterior numeric keypads to open the garage doors. Our technician, Tim, was fantastic and he even took the time to program the gate to our vehicles... something we'd had trouble doing originally. If there were 0 stars, I'd give them this. We had storm damage in our garage and our roofer hired O'Brien to come out and put up a new garage door opener. Contracted for Monday, and at the last minute, they called my roofer to say they couldn't make it. Rescheduled for today, Wednesday, Sept. 27th, and wouldn't you know it, once again calling to cancel at the last minute, "promising" my roofer they'd be there tomorrow, Thursday, 9/28. But I doubt it because they promised us to be on time for 2 days this week and haven't shown up there yet. Find another installer. Can't trust these guys. read more

A tech came promptly the same day I called and after a good 2-3 hours got my garage door working again--However, they more or less force you to buy the "lifetime warranty" (which is a huge upsell and does not include future labor or assessment fees which I was told would be another $150) . If you don't get the warranty, they won't let you use any discounts and they will mark up the prices of the same material (or give you a less quality product--which they claim won't last). Still would have been alright, maybe 3 stars, as the tech explained everything well and I know he was only doing what he was told by upselling their warranties and otherwise he SEEMED to go above and beyond, but... Immediately after the tech left I noticed the hardwired light in my garage that is attached to the garage door system was no longer turning on. The tech had me try out the door numerous times to make sure I was satisfied, but as it was bright outside, we never touched the lights. Later that same evening is when I discovered the error. Prior to him coming out there was never a problem with the light, so it had to be something he touched. We called the company and they claim he would not have touched the lights (even though they are attached to the same box the garage opener is attached to) and refuse to send anyone to fix it or even look at it. We then asked for a refund on the lifetime warranty, as we will not be using the company again. They said the only way they would do that is if they charged us to come and uninstall all of the materials they used and reinstall a lower quality spring. Therefore, most likely charging even more than originally quoted--for an inferior product. They really know how to satisfy a customer! Enjoy my $400, it's the last you'll see. read more

This company, O'Brien Garage Doors, sent 2 gentlemen over to assess the situation. The lead rep spoke with such a thick accent his assessment could not be understood. When the supposed repairs amounted to over $500, and we could not determine what all that involved, we said we would have to get another quote. A service pay of $47.50 was required at this time...which normally would not be questioned...but when nothing of any value (understood quote, understood assessment of repairs needed, no idea of timing of repair) came with this fee - it felt like highway robery. In addition, while writing a check, they splattered neon orange O'Brien stickers all over the inside of our garage. Repeated calls to ask for our money back were always unsatisfied with a response of "our manager is out in the field, I'll have him call you". The manager NEVER called back. Our 2nd quote from another vendor was only $140 and the door works beautifully again. read more
