In the afternoon I left a message on Tinkham's website and they called me the next morning to schedule some time to fix my garage door. They reviewed the problem and suggested a tune-up. Duane is absolutely unprofessional. I am an agent with Keller Williams and I have multiple rental properties. I have used Duane a couple of times and every time I call he is very rude and short. I continued using him because of the convenience of not having to find another source. Well today that changes. I called Duane at Tinkham Garage and once again he was rude. I needed help installing a motor for a garage door on a home I am flipping. He was asking me for cross streets which I didn't not know because I just bought this house. First I will say Duane is great! Truly a hidden gem of the garage door repair world My garage door stopped working on a Monday and after a little online research. I discovered that public consensus is most garage door repair places will try to scam and overcharge. Lucky for me I was able to self diagnose what the issue was. I had determined it was a broken torsion spring. I studied up and educated myself on my garage door. I measured the height, width, determined what it was made from, (plastic, wood, metal, insulated metal etc.). I also inspected all the rollers and what they were made of. (Plastic, metal with or without neoprene covering). Lastly I checked the cables for any fraying. All parts appeared in order with the exception of the spring. Tinkham was not my first call, I tried to reach another local referral but after a phone call and two emails and no response I decided to move on. I had also called a second company while I waited for the first just to compare prices. It was now Friday and I wanted my garage back. Tinkham was my next call and Duane picked up after just a few rings. He listened to my concern and was able to assess the situation based on my information. He quoted a price and was at my house that same day to repair. He looked at the door and confirmed it was a broken spring and the quote he gave over the phone would be the cost and included a tune up. He inspected all the working parts and did find one part that needed replacement. Duane clearly explained the purposes of this part and actually showed me the difference between the worn/used part compared to the new one. (I wish I had taken a picture of the two). It definitely needed replacing. All this in less than an hour and I was ready to park in my garage again. It's so hard to find reliable and honest repairmen, Duane is both, plus he was very friendly. I 100% recommend Tinkham for garage door repair and would definitely give repeat business when the need arises. Sent pic of opener to find out for sure if grandfathered in & was told he needs to see it even though I sent pictures. Was a little huffy from the start & then told it was grandfathered in & charges $45. He brook out a light bulb from hanging light in garage to test the light bulb socket since I apparently didn't know how to do that!! Didn't work cuz of age of garage door. After trying another garage service and receiving an extremely high quote, I decided to try a person in my neighborhood and called Tinkham Garage Door Co. My garage door spring had broken over a month ago, so I wasn't in any hurry. I called late Monday night, and I received a call early Tuesday morning! Duane was very friendly and worked with my schedule. He came by at 4:30 today (Tuesday). I gave him the full story, he setup and began working right away. He had both of my springs replaced, door oiled and adjusted, and everything in working order in less than an hour. Watching him work was amazing, and my door has never worked that well since I've lived in this house (over 9 years). He even gave me tips on how to make sure my door lasts longer, and gave me a heads up on the future of my motor. It's obvious that he takes great pride in his work, and he makes sure to get it right. Tinkham was a 1/4th of the price of the other company, and had leaps and bounds better customer service. I'm so glad the other company didn't work out. I'm very happy with the work Duane did, and I'm telling everyone about Tinkham. Beware...Duane is absolutely unprofessional and extremely rude. He has serviced my electric gate a few times over the years and I put up with his quirkiness but my last experience was so bad I did not feel safe in his presence. I noticed a Red Flag #1 when he showed up with an attitude about my husband trying to figure out the problem. Red flag #2: Duane called for tech assistance and still couldn't identify the problem. After charging me $295 to change the battery, he collected his check, told me the gate was working and said the gate problem may be with the circuit board so if the gate stops working he may have to come back and charge me for a second service call! My gate opened and closed once after his visit and quit working. I asked him to return and fix it; he agreed to show up the next afternoon but he was so rude about it that I later canceled with him and called another company. Surprisingly, Duane showed up unannounced and banged on my back door with a new circuit board, (which wasn't the problem, by the way). He scared me with his rude behavior, called me ungrateful when I said I did not need him to fix my gate and threw the box with the circuit board on the ground in front of me. He insulted my husband again and I asked him to leave and have a nice day. When my new repair company came, they diagnosed my problem in less than 5 minutes, made the repairs and guaranteed it for a year. Never got that from Duane. read more

Duane did a great job on our garage doors. We had a spring break and he came out the same day and did the repair. Not only did he fix that but he made other recommendations to improve the condition and life of the doors, which we thought needed to be replaced. I gave Duane a call regarding a broken torsion spring on my garage door and he was able to give me a firm quote over the phone for the replacement of both springs (recommended if only one is broken) and a complete tune up. The price was very reasonable and I got the feeling I wasn't going to be playing a bunch of games when he arrived. This was first and foremost on my mind as I had kicked a tech out of my house the day prior for trying to pull the ole "bait 'n switch" as well as trying to sell me a bunch of crap I didn't need or even ask about.....lesson learned - make sure you do some research as some of these guys try to hit a "home run" with every call.
