The saga continues. O'Connor calls me to tell me there is a $175 early termination fee. I remind them that they have failed to show up for six months. She informs me that I owe the company two more services since they've only provided two visits in one year and I would have to pay the early termination fee. I told her to mail me the contract showing that there is a contractual agreement to four service visits. This doesn't excuse them of tricking a customer (probably many customers) into signing an agreement at the first service. Angel handed me a piece of paper which looked like a service visit receipt and asked me to sign it for his service -- which I did. Complete fraudsters -- I'll continue to report back. read more

I've used this company for MANY years....since they were called Hydrex. When I moved from Arroyo Grande to San Luis Obispo in 2015, I moved their pest service with me. And then when I moved back to Arroyo Grande in 2018, I moved their pest service with me again! By 2018, they had changed their name to OConnor. Ruben (who is wonderful!!) has been my tech this whole time. Everything was lovely .... until I added rodent service. So Pest & Rodent service in AG, and Rodent service only in SLO. Well I'm getting THREE different bills for these services. Bills that don't say WHAT the service is for or what dates the service is billed for. With so little info on the bill (basically just a dollar amount and an invoice date), I couldnt tell what I was paying for and was tired of paying one company three times a month. I called to try to 1/ ADD pest service to the SLO property (so TWO services at TWO properties, for a total of $160/MONTH....I'm happy to pay for services rendered; 2/ I also wanted to understand what I was paying for on the TWO current bills I was paying today; 3/ I wanted to get billing consolidated to simplify life a little. I was on the phone with their billing department for 38 minutes. YES, nearly 3/4 of an HOUR, trying to get things sorted. Finally we had it worked out. But then a problem arose. My rodent service in SLO isnt due until Dec 7th, so I would have to wait to have the PEST service until Dec 7th or else I would have to pay an additional $75. At this point I'm very tired of trying to SIMPLIFY my PEST service for well over 30 minutes. I just wanted to stop butting up against yet another wall with this billing person. How about offering SOLUTIONS rather than MORE ISSUES. How about offering to take care of a long term client rather than finding an opportunity to add yet more costs. So at this point I asked her to simply CANCEL my SLO service. She talked to her manager and came back on the phone to let me know that they would be charging me $149 early cancellation fee. REALLY! I've been using your company for YEARS...my address has simply changed a few times......with each move came a NEW contract with a NEW ONE YEAR minimum. WHEN DID PEST CONTROL GET INTO THE GYM STYLE CONTRACTS. WHY IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE A ONE YEAR CONTRACT. GENERALLY WITH A ONE YEAR CONTRACT A CLIENT GETS SOME KIND OF "DEAL" LIKE WITH CHARTER.....SIGN UP FOR A YEAR AND GET THE BUNDLE FOR 40% OFF. NOT SO WITH O'CONNOR. SIGN UP FOR MORE AND GET LOCKED INTO YET ANOTHER ONE YEAR CONTRACT AT RACK RATES. What a racket!!! So because i've had to move a lot while sorting out a long divorce, I have to pay cancellation fee??? Thanks so much OConnor. High prices, long 'contracts', inflexible indecipherable billing. In my opinion, this company is a scam. I scheduled someone to come out for a rodent inspection. The guy chatted me up, explained how the traps would work, etc. Then, he casually mentioned that I would have to sign A YEAR CONTRACT just to have them leave a trap. As a business consultant, I've seen many businesses do this, and it's almost always because their service sucks and they can't keep their customers any other way. After reading the other reviews, I'm confident that this is why O'Connor does this. You don't need to trick your customers into hiring you long-term if you have a solid reputation. Obviously, they do not have confidence that their customers will like them, so they make them sign a contract. Had they told me this when I scheduled, they wouldn't have wasted their time and mine! Completely lied about service. Casually mentioned they were servicing multiple homes in my neighborhood and if I wanted to have my home sprayed too. They only come out 1 time every 2 months unless you actually call and set up additional appointments. Salesperson NEVER mentioned a 1 year contract and then charged me a $159 cancellation fee when I asked to cancel. SHADY company. DO NOT do business with them. read more

I was mistaken about this company. Their services are overpriced and often ineffective. We've had black ants in our kitchen for about 2.5 months and O'Connor has done nothing, even though we were paying for quarterly service. Their gopher control is hit-or-miss, and expensive. Lady in the office called me informing me that I am due for my last service and that I owe $75. I told her I cancelled and have went elsewhere that it was not my fault I cancelled and im not paying it. She continued to tell me I had to pay for the last service even if service was not done or she can have someone come out to service. I have went elsewhere and don't need the service. I emailed her to tell her if I get a bill I will report them, I will not pay for service that was not done and that I cancelled. So this week I got a bill 2 months later. We contacted O'Connor for two problems. Termites and ants invading into our house. Kevin O'Connor inspected our home for termites and said we had an abundance of termites up in the attic. They were supposed to provide us with a bid of how much it would cost. Also, we were told another inspector would inspect the house for ants and give us a price on that as well. Never heard back from Kevin on the costs for the jobs. they just blew us off, and we decided at that point to contract with Clark Pest control. Clark Pest control has excellent service and with prompt follow ups. I highly recommend Clark for pest control and are reasonably priced. as it turned out, Clark Pest control only found small amounts of termites in the attic. Termites were mostly on the exterior of the house and not inside the house. Clark did replaced a lot of the wood that was termite damaged. O'Connor did not follow up and never called us back. we figured at the time they're probably so busy, they don't need our business. They claim to be a family business and are local so we thought they would be a good choice. we were wrong about O"connor and would NOT recommend their business. save your money and go with Clark Pest Control. read more

Been with O'Connor for several years. Decided to move to another company for various reasons. O'Connor had a fit! Sent us letters slandering the other company that we had chosen. Then, six weeks after we had severed ties with O'Connor, they took $75 from my checking account calling it an "early termination fee". We had NO CONTRACT with O'Connor, therefore we were "at will" customers and not subject to early termination fees. Called 3 times and explained this to the office staff, got nowhere. Finally spoke with the owner, Kevin O'Connor, and "requested" they return our $75. Mr. O'Connor "went off" going on and on about the other pest control company, my husband could not get a work in edgewise. By the end of that call we came away with the conclusion that Kevin O'Connor is completely "off the rails". Would not recommend doing business with this company ever! read more

Called to check the status and they had no record of my appointment...no apologies or anything ...I would give them 0 stars if I could. This is one of those situations where the business used to be an actual business over a decade ago, but now it's run like a scam where the customer service is lacking, as well as communication and organizational skills. After having spent over $1K for a tent on our house, and our pest problem is still around. It's my understanding that they use a third party to do the actual work, and their scheduler must be a third party too because she either doesn't get any appointments, or she has no training on how to put one down. So many times we were rescheduled and having to deal with turning the gas on /off. Eventually the tent went up, but they told us that we'd have to wait into next week because they don't work on certain days. Mind you, they "informed" us at the last possible second so we could not get a hotel refund. Either way, you'd probably have better luck running some mint essential oils than dealing with this nightmare of a "company," and I use that term very loosely. The owner has been contacted, but big surprise, no word from him. If he remarks on this post, then that's a hoot! He could also inform his driver's that if they make a house call and they decide to park in a 3-car driveway, it's considerate to not take up the whole driveway. Pick a side, any side. read more

We contracted with O'Connor for one month to rid our small front lawn of what we thought were gophers. A technician was sent out right away and kept in contact by text very promptly. The problem was that after two weeks, and having him come out several times, we kept getting more and more dirt piles. Another tech, Jared, came out and told us we had moles, not gophers. It took two weeks of ineffective gopher tactics before we had some progress. Within a week, Jared had cleared the lawn of moles. If this had happened from the beginning I would have given a higher rating. I should have been set straight from the beginning that we had moles not gophers! Thanks, Jared. Well done. read more

Before it was O'Conner it was Hydrex and now reportedly they are owned by Terminex. I was paying $120/month for pest control on my property and out of the blue they wanted to raise it to $180, a 50% increase! I cancelled. I live in a rural area and have issues with ground squirrels, rats and mice. After I cancelled I checked all the bait stations they left behind and not one of them looked like it had been serviced in forever! The technician had not been doing what he said he was and then they wanted to raise their price. I was outraged- do not use this company unless you like being ripped off. read more

I've used this company for five years to control spiders and gophers for annual cost of $960!! They are great at billing the credit card each month but the gophers and spiders remain as much as when they started five years ago. I have as much success using "glue boards" inside the house. Whatever spraying that's done outside hasn't done much of anything. The spiders and gophers remain. My neighbors say the technician stays a few minutes each month and is gone. I'm usually not home. I now have more time and have taken over pest control and am saving almost $1000/year. Poor results and large monthly charges with this company. Wouldn't use them again! read more

We had a Carpenter Ant invasion in the kitchen. O'Connor came, he did not bother to go under the house to check the problem, he sprayed under from the outside and handed me a bill for $175.00 for 5 minutes of work. About an our later a young man from MPC came asking for the spot where to get under the house, I explained to him that he was a bit late and told him the process done by O'Connor. He said he would have gone under the house to assess the situation and also spray all around the house. So I asked him what he would have charged, he said $85.00, I was too ashamed to tell him that for that poor service I had paid $175.00..... read more

I cancelled my service in September, spoke to a nice girl in the office who assured me all was ok. Today I get a bill for October because I "did not cancel in writing gIving them 30 day notice ". My family was with this company when it was still Hydrex a couple months ago. We received several unprofessional letters basic slandering a former employee of there's. We got very turned off by them and decided to go with other company. Since then we received a very threateningly phone call basically staying if we didn't come back to O'Connor pest control we were going to be sued. Recently we noticed that we had a bad infestation of rats in our yard. They were leaving tell tale signs of droppings and eating foliage. It was pretty obvious that they were running amok!!! I called for some estimates, but was most impressed with Ruben as he not only gives the estimates , but he also does the work himself. I could not be more pleased with the results and the customer service is excellent. He is fast, efficient, and very personable. The rodent population has decreased significantly. We were initially very pleased with the first two weeks of service we received from O'Connor, however, after the first two weeks they disappeared. We had paid in advance for a full month's service, possibly looking to a year's contract, but that is out of the question now. They owe us for two weeks of service, but we have been unable to reach them by phone or email. Neither have been returned. We are exploring our options for reimbursement. read more
