First of all, this is based on 3 visits because we wanted to like the place so much. The first time we went, Keith (owner) introduced himself, his wife, and son who all run the place. Also gave family history and origin of the bar, which hooked us instantly, not to mention the drinks were amazing. SOOOO.... We decided to go for lunch the next day. We walked in, sat down and neither Keith sitting at the end of the bar, or his wife acknowledged us. We sat thirsty for a half hour before walking out and going to the Ale House which never disappoints. We felt like jerks and wanted to give them another try. We had to beg for drinks. Again, didn't try the food because the service was terrible. Never going back and it's a shame because it's a nice irish vibe. read more

Fish was good ... but chips should be a wedge or a steak fry .... dessert was a disappointment.... brownie was teeny tiny ... one bite .... cold and hard .... so were the 4 selections of cheesecakes which were not cheese cake they were very dry cakes. What is saving this review from being lower is that my cottage pie was spectacular!! It was a hearty and fulling meal that satisfied the soul. Their menu consists of many variations of a Gaelic sausage which I did not find appealing. You can get it in forms like a burger etc and that is what my dining companion had one such burger and I agreed with him it wasn't very appetizing with it's flavor profile. To top it off it has artichoke dip on the burger and that didn't play well with everything else at all. The service was just OK. We were in the back room and were forgotten about I'm sure but it's understandable maybe with the laid back atmosphere. So overall it was OK and if I had a hankering for cottage pie I would go back but otherwise I'm OK with other local dining options. read more

Poured perfect Guinness and served the most delicious foods! Very reasonable prices and decent portion sizes. Visited Friday, May 7. Grateful that they were able to accommodate our party of ten without any wait. We first attempted to get seated at Ale House 1890. No one even acknowledged us in order for us to request seating, so we made our way to O'Huids Gaelic Pub, just down the street. We were able to get seated in a private room, which we all appreciated, as we could all enjoy the conversation. The service was excellent and the server was very attentive. Everyone was "okay" with their food choices but no one loved the food. I would rate the food as adequate. Drinks were not served in any glassware. I ordered a Guinness and expected it to be served in a frosted glass. I was disappointed when my drink arrived in a plastic cup. All the food appetizers and entrees were served in "to go" containers (foil aluminum containers), so the food wasn't visually appealing at all. Sorry.... if I'm paying full price for an entrée, I expect it to be served on a physical plate with actual utensils, not plastic. The most important question... Was it good? No. I ordered the Fish and Chips (Cider battered fish, pub fries with minted mushy peas or coleslaw). The fish isn't served as battered filets but as "fish nuggets". The mushy peas were absolutely disgusting. I wasn't happy with my food choice at all. The fish was also overly battered. Perhaps to cover up for the lack of fish? I've been to a lot of Irish pubs and this is the weakest one that I've ever been to. No potato or bean soup on the menu. If you have a large party and don't care about the quality of the food, then check this place out. Otherwise, keep moving. We had a great experience here. The owner was very friendly and talked with us, and her son, who is the chef, also came out and talked to us. Both were super friendly. They have added a lot of new menu items and everything we tried was amazing! In our group we had the fish and chips, Irish stew, cheeseburger and fries, cheese curds, and fried pickles. Everything was really good! Everything is made from scratch, no packaged or frozen foods. They didn't have a drink that I usually like so they made it anyway and added it to the menu! Atmosphere is very cozy and a good place for a fun hangout with friends. Happy hour prices were reasonable and they have smaller portion appetizers so you don't have to spend a lot. I have never had such outstanding service than what we received at O'Huids last Friday night. We were there to celebrate the upcoming wedding for my son and his fiancé. The food was delicious, the staff was AMAZING and we were sat in a more private area so we could enjoy our time together as a family and all while adhering to the current social distancing guidelines due to Covid 19. The chef is inspired on his specials and the standard menu has all the regular bar food you would expect - just a bit better than most. There is so much to love about O'Huids! First, it's beautiful inside. It has a warm ambiance and feels like an old but well kept establishment. The food is excellent! I had the Loch Ness, which is a kind of Scottish Square. I'd never had one of these before, so I was being adventurous and it was not disappointing at all! There is a great beer selection, and the service was wonderful as well. We called ahead on a Friday morning, because we had a large group with kids. Went inside to pay for this meal and well........i did complain. Manager,,,,,,,,,," no one else has complained" I guess i get it. As long as no one else is "complaining" , I guess my complaint doesn't matter. C'mon, look at that sandwich! looked like leftovers on a cheap hamburger bun. The fish and chips, cheap fish nuggets a hand full of fries in a paper boat. Couple beers were ok, outdoors ok $45. This is a wonderful, family-owned pub with authentic dishes (colcannon, minty mushy peas) and Irish riffs on American pub favorites. The fish sandwich is crispy and made with inch-high, tender fish served with housemade tartar. Delicious. The salad dressings are made in-house and they're really bright and add the right zing to a selection of salads if you're in the mood for a light lunch. This visit I tried the Scotch Broth soup with haggis meatballs - truly authentic and delicious. Very casual atmosphere with stained glass everywhere. Beautiful! They have a full bar and fantastic appetizers. If you go you MUST get the lamb nachos with the home-made pico! The entree menu (while authentic Irish cuisine) was very small with maybe 5-6 items and the portions were not overwhelming! Driving though Lancaster a few weeks back, my wife and I drove past this place and, knowing there are no places like this in Lancaster, we knew we had to visit and try it out. Fast forward to this past Saturday. My wife, daughter and I were out an about and decided to try O'Huids. Knowing this was a pub that serves food and not a restaurant that serves drinks (per an article in the Lancaster Eagle Gazette) we went in with a certain expectation. Upon entering we were told by the bartender, who looked to also be one of the owners, to seat ourselves. The only tables left were in the rear of the place so we picked one and had a seat. Another group came in shortly afterwards and took the other table. We were a bit upset when they were waited on first and it took an additional 5 minutes for the server to come over to us. She took our drink order and off she went. It did concern me that our server wasn't sure if they had Harp (a server, especially in a pub, should always know what's on tap or available). When she came back with the drinks we asked for a menu, which they don't have. Everything is written on a board in the front. The fish and chips (fries) were tasty. Two decent portions of battered fish and fries is what you got, so fairly basic. The Irish nachos were just potato chips with a beef/lamb mixture and normal nacho toppings and left a bit to be desired. Also got a dish with mashed potatoes and some kind of cubed meat (I apologize I don't remember what it was, but that's the impression it left on me). Knowing they've only been open since late last year, and it's a soft open to boot, there is lots of growing up to do. If you're in town for a few drinks and light fare this is the place to go. If you want dinner and drinks, make the drive to Columbus and hit Claddagh. That's probably what we'll do next time, although we're willing to give O'Huids another try once they have their grand opening. read more

I can't imagine how they got such good reviews. My experience was horrid. It took almost an hour to get our food, and we ordered very simple things. Hot tea, banger and mash, salad. I received water for tea twice, and the water was tepid even though the wait person said to watch it because it was hot. I was WARM! The food was good when we finally got it, but the wait was terrible, and the tea was terrible. I think the wait person was doing her best, but the place was not even crowded, and we had to wait so long. Living on the Lancaster side of Canal, I go to Lancaster often and love the new restaurants that have popped up over the past few years. **** Ambiance: Great Irish Pub/Bar comfort/decor. Worth at least a visit and a drink! - A+ Food: - Had the Fish n Chips. Excellent chunks of tender moist fish in nice not-too-heavy batter. Needed a slightly bigger portion. Average "chips" (fries). Excellent tartar sauce. Tastes like homemade. Creamy. Beautiful. But, it shouldn't be served in a half-filled, tiny, Arthur Treacher's plastic cup with a lid...like it was prepped 2 days earlier (see photo). The great fish deserves a scoop of tartar sauce. The mushy peas...were mushy peas. A+ (fish taste/texture, tartar sauce taste/texture) B (overall fish/chips/mushy peas/tartar sauce skimping/average fry experience) Service: Needs serious work (won't grade out of kindness) Since there are no menus (at this time) or printed handout (would be nice in the short run), you have to look at a board that is barely visible in the crowd. The server should describe EVERYTHING that's available. The servers should be trained to NEVER deliver food without having ALREADY delivered plates/silverware/napkins. Nothing worse than a hot dish, a server walking away, and then an adventure to get your utensils. Big time suggestion: Servers should make eye contact with every one of their tables every time they are on the floor. It is not fun to have to chase your server through a crowd to get your needs met, after they've rapidly walked past you without looking. Bar/Drinks: Selection is varied with many unique options. A+ A front room manager would be a benefit, as I think the owner was swamped behind the bar or too busy to see what was going on on the floor. Swamped is a good start. But, if you want it to stay that way, managing the chaos is critical. Good luck. read more
