My wife and I were looking for a sandwich shop in Danville that was NOT a sub shop, and this fit the bill. I'd been to the overpriced Firehouse Subs, but we were both in the mood for a regular sandwich. We both ordered ham and Swiss on their cheese bread, and the results were tasty. This isn't gourmet food, but it's pretty darn good for the price - which is VERY reasonable. We were also impressed with the atmosphere. There was plenty of room to spread out, and we decided to eat in despite COVID fears because the only other group was at the extreme far end of the room, maybe 50 feet away. The dining room is good-sized, clean, and well maintained. The counter server was friendly and answered all our questions (you order at a counter, and the food is brought out to your table). Heard they made great cakes...if you like cakes that crumble to the fork they work and paying $42 for a small round cake with no decorations then they'll also work for you. We picked to eat here while on a leisure trip based on yelp reviews. It is all that and more! Menu is simple and cheap but absolutely the best food. The cinnamon, cherry walnut, and lemon crunch rolls were amazing. The sandwiches were generous portions and super tasty. I appreciated the option to get chips or another side or a roll. My kids liked being able to see into the kitchen while they worked. Clean place, super friendly folks. And one of the best meals we have had in a long time! read more

I would have given you five stars but you switched to Pepsi products. I have been a fan of this local establishment since the first restaurant opened and a sandwich came with a bag of chips and a coke for five dollars. O'Kellys has kept prices reasonably similar but the quality just as high as when they opened. If you want a carb overload try a slice of cake. read more

We love patronizing local eateries and avoid chains anytime we can. But when in Danville, we'll get our sandwiches from Sheetz or Subway because this place is not worth the money. This is neither a deli nor a pastry place. There are 3 choices of sandwich meat...no-name ham, turkey, roast beef. Two choices of cheese...no-name white cheddar or Swiss. And one type of bread...it looks like a nice Portuguese bread roll but it's just a soft,mushy, flavorless mass of bread that falls apart halfway through. The pastries are giant undercooked cinnamon buns, giant ham cheese buns, giant "pizza" buns, or some plastic-tasting cookies. Oh, or cheesecake. That's it...nothing that can even be called a "pastry." We bought a pair of all the cookies they had, and they were all terrible. The cookies tasted like the plastic they were wrapped in. Everything, even the eat-in orders, gets wrapped tightly in plastic for some reason. If you have taste buds, you would be better off at Subway. read more

Customer service was terrible on 3-7-20. I walk in and everyone just stares from the back. I speak and smile, one person barely speaks and the young girl just glares and walks off. Then the guy comes out and takes my order. I ordered my mom's food and declined to spend my own money there. If she hadn't had her heart set on food from there, I would have walked out. I'm giving three stars because I've been here before and had excellent service. So my hope is that this was just a case of the people not wanting to work on Saturday and not the new norm. I visited for the first time with friends and I got the chicken salad sandwich meal. It was on a big bun (probably around 5" wide) that was probably homemade and very soft and moist. The chicken salad was some of the best I have ever eaten. It was thick and I was given a big supply. There was no skimping here. Of course I added lettuce and tomato and I got a drink and chips. I think the meal was under $10. It was not that expensive at all for what I got. The deli was extremely clean and neat. I felt very comfortable there. I plan to visit again whenever I come to Danville Va. I am glad my friends introduced me to this place. 5 stars based on my first experience. I'm impressed. read more

O'Kelly's is my new must-go-to lunch spot when I go to Danville to visit family. I feel like such a traitor to Midtown Market for saying this (they had my loyalty for decades!), but O'Kelly's now holds the title for best chicken salad in town. The chicken salad sandwiches are so overflowing that you can scrape off the excess filling and make a respectable second sandwich. The bag lunches are a crazy good deal for the amount of food you get, even when you add the upcharge for getting a danish - the lemon crunch is on point! Stopped in for a ham & swiss sandwich to go, oh my goodness, it was so good. It was the perfect size to share. The bread is excellent, it had a hefty portion of ham, and the melted swiss was just right. It may sound like a plain old ham & cheese sandwich, but the ingredients are top notch. read more

Our office gets lunch from the new location across from Danville Community College. I have not met anyone yet that has eaten there and was disappointed. Piney Forest Rd, South Main St (across from Danville Community College), 58 West in Brosville Community, and now in Tightsqueeze (Chatham) This place has nothing but delicious food. They will shock you with the portion size, the taste, and the price is unbelievable. Folks from out of town who are accustomed to high prices, are totally floored by how low the prices are. Found this place on Yelp. Here's the deal. Counter person was very nice, the food not so much. I ordered a ham and cheese sandwich which cam wrapped in plastic wrap hot to the touch. However the cheese was not melted and the boiled ham was not great. Wife ordered a chicken salad sandwich and only ate half. Her comment: Who in the world makes chicken salad with sweet pickles and no chopped celery? Won't eat there again and will not recommend to anyone. read more

My company placed an order on Friday for delivery on Monday. I called Tuesday morning to inquire about the order that wasn't delivered as promised nor was the voicemail I left on Monday returned. The manager wasn't helpful instead went into a list of why someone forgot to write the order down and that they do not check their voicemail. Being from the Danville area, this is an establishment I used to frequent. When O'Kellys first opened, their employees were full of warm hospitality, the bread was always fresh, and they had a variety of dessert pastry pinwheels available. However, that is no longer the case at any of their establishments. Upon returning home, I decided I would use an old gift card that was maybe a year old or so. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich, a slice of strawberry cheesecake (because they did not have any dessert pinwheels left), and a pound of chicken salad for the road because I remember it being so delicious. Over the years, I have found a decrease in the quality of employees that are hired as they are not empathetic or resembling any quality that a locally owned business should have under their employment. I tried to use my gift card which had no expiration date or anything of the like on the back of card and I the woman informed me I was not able to do so. Apparently they changed their system over and the cards are no longer accepted. I found this incredibly insulting because any and all of the locally owned businesses will generally find a way to make the card work when there is not an expiration date present. I know for a fact there was $15.00 on the card but I was rudely told the best they could do was give a $5.00 credit. The woman practically shouted at me because apparently this is a common thing and people are coming with older cards that are not accepted by the new system. The fact that this woman was rude to me and basically telling me $10.00 would be lost, made me quite displeased to say the least. She acted as if she were doing me a favor when this place must be ripping off their customers to not offer anyway of finding the balance on the card. Regardless, I took the $5.00 and paid the difference. I should have just walked out because the food was not worth paying for. The yeast roll was stale and the chicken salad tasted a little old. Almost, like it had been sitting awhile, so I regret buying a pound of it because I can get much better at an actual deli in Richmond. My cheesecake was actually warm and the strawberries were not fresh. Just a crappy syrupy topping. I cannot speak for the dessert pinwheel because they did not have any but the fact that they did not is just as upsetting. They once carried a multitude of choices, and overtime, they only carry one, maybe two flavors at most. They might as well not even sell them if they are never available. Especially when you are only going to sell one choice in flavor. I will not ever return and nearly all my relatives have ceased patronizing this sorry excuse for a deli. read more

Although I don't live on the Danville area I have family who does. Whenever we visit them we try to make a point to grab a meal here. The danishes are amazing and the chicken salad is off the chain!!! They are served on their fabulous yeast rolls and are large enough to make two meals out of. I have friends who visit Danville occasionally and bring a cooler in order to take containers of the chicken salad, pimiento cheese, and barbeque back home with them. Fabulous place to eat! We stopped in because other reviews talked about how good the cinnamon rolls were. I was leery because all the pictures I saw showed things wrapped in cellophane. But I wanted to see and we were going right by anyway so we went in. Sure enough, the rolls were wrapped in cellophane in the bakery case. So I decided to take a pass, figuring not for me (not a fan of sweets, can't stand cinnamon rolls with that baking powder taste, wasn't sure of their freshness, etc.). Got out to car and decided I might as well try one, so back in I went. Asked for one cinnamon roll (they are about 4x4 and 1 1/2" think. Clerk says, "they are two for a dollar, want two?". Yes, TWO FOR A DOLLAR!!! Yes I said. Then she asks me if I want them warmed up. Just one I said. Well, it was absolutely delish, sort of on the order of Cinnabons. Not too sweet and NO baking powder taste. On the way out of Danville on Hy 58 going west there is an O'Kelly's Express. So we stopped to check it out too. Bingo, same menu (they are suppose to have huge sandwiches on homemade bread that are to die for) and they had the cinnamon rolls. Bought some more. So now, 2 full days after I bought them, I had one left. I put butter on top of it and nuked it. OMG, I was in heaven. You must get these...and get extras. I promise you, you won't go wrong. First off, to call this place a deli is an insult to delis. I would classify this place more of a bakery that sells sandwiches. Very limited meat options, no salami, no pastrami, no corned beef, no capicola, etc. No ruben's, no sailor sandwiches, no corned beef on rye. I think you get my drift. All the good things that make a place a deli, this place was missing. Now that we got that out of the way, lets focus on this places other downfalls. After looking over the menu, I selected the ham pinwheel for lunch with a bag of chips and a drink. This sounded like a good option, and probably would have been quite tasty if it was prepared correctly. After ordering, I watched the clerk go over to a refrigerated display case, grab a wrapped, pre-made pinwheel and toss it to the back of the place were they proceeded to heat up the item in a microwave. Ugh, how very disappointing. I'm sure if the pinwheel was served hot from the oven it would have been fantastic, but after a trip to the microwave, all the goodness was destroyed. The bread was chewy with that microwaved bread flavor and texture. Not good at all. The bags of chips were tiny, and even though they had a selection of Coke products, no Coke Zero (but Cherry Coke Zero?!). My son had the ham and swiss sandwich. It was served microwaved as well. The bread on his sandwich was the highlight of the lunch and was quite tasty as it should have been since this place is first and foremost a bakery. Overall I was highly disappointed with my lunch. If you are in the mood for a good deli, skip this place and go somewhere else. read more
