This might be one of the best sushi restaurants in Raleigh. I came in solo on a busy Saturday night and was able to get a seat at the bar right away. Food was amazing and the vibes in there were warm and intimate. Will be back soon!

Great ambience, but... Venue: great ambience, lively. Food: we ordered gyoza, rock shrimp, toro spoon, various rolls, and some nigiri. insane price for sushi/ nigiri especially uni. If it was great and special, pricing would be understood but not the case here. The toro spoon had old fish taste. Sushi rice was over cooked and very mushy. Sorry but sushi roles reminded me of the ones you get in the grocery store. Duck kushiyaki was recommended and tasted somewhat bland and tough. Came here for family birthday dinner. No body really liked the dishes here. Service: our server was very kind and tried his best to accommodate us. Great ambience but I don't see any of us coming back here for food.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while, and I finally got the chance when my husband took me for my birthday/date night also our first night out since having our baby. And oh my goodness....everything was amazing. The ambiance was beautiful and the attention to detail especially with their birthday menu was phenomenal (as a donut lover, I was in heaven). The staff's hospitality was truly top notch and the food? Absolutely incredible. I had such a great experience that I came back again, and the second visit did not disappoint either. Definitely will be coming back anytime I'm in the area!

One of the few restaurants i repeatedly recommend to any and all friends. They are consistent with their quality. One of the best sushi spots around. I love love love the otoro spoons. But honestly, everything on their menu is spectacular. I have sooooo many pics of oku dinners from how often i visit. Their service is also great! They're super attentive, friendly, and consistent!!!! They give it a lot of gifts too which makes your experience feel special. Super sultry sophisticated vibes. Ive put on all of my friends onto Oku for years and theyve done the same w their circles. I visit between Charlotte and Raleigh a lot, and both locations are always the same friendly and delish experience. No notes for Oku!! if i could add the 100+ pics of oku dishes ive had, i would. I would rec: garden salad otoro spoons A5 wagyu sashimi!! any! my personal faves are salmon and eel Lobster handroll dillon roll any of their sushi rolls tbh! mont blanc cake

We made a reservation ahead of time on OpenTable. You can walk to the restaurant. There's street parking available. The restaurant was dimly lit with a candle at table. They sat us near a door, so it kept blowing out and was kind of cold. The tables are close together, but you're not on top of the people next to you. There are booths, high tops, and outdoor seating with heat lamps. They play music slightly loud. The staff are friendly and are conscious if you have any allergies (give informed alternatives). The sushi was amazing quality especially the Wagyu (worth the market price around $20). The nigiri is one piece but it's a good portion of rice and fish - a good mouth full. I'd definitely come back because it was so delicious despite being expensive. It's easy to quickly rack up a large bill with the nigiri.

    Spoons

Spoons! Exploding with flavor. Akira had an intimate little lemon secret, mild but delightful. Clouds of white was an amazing drink. Emperor war great. The donuts were everything. Face room for dessert. The service was incredible and ambiance offered a Japanese side street feel. Go! You won't regret it.

Excellent food, our server was very professional and made us feel welcomed, ambiance was nice music playing not too loud ,try the curry noodles delicious, definitely going back for more.

O-Ku was a gem on a Saturday night. The ambiance was upscale and low lit. I started with their version of the lychee martini, Clouds on White, which was beautifully made and easy to drink. Followed by a tequila featured drink which is pictured below. I was able to try the Spicy Tuna Crunch and the Angry Salmon signature maki. Both were amazing but the star of the show was the delicious O-Toro Sashimi, buttery perfection and an absolute must!

O-Ku is now probably my favorite sushi restaurant! The inside is so cute and photoworthy. The service was perfect from the beginning until the end and they were very accommodating for my friends allergy and the alterations did not impact the taste of her food or her dessert. My waitress was so so nice. The sushi was 1000/10. I ordered the Unagi Nigiri and the Kurama. They brought out a nice dessert surprise since they knew I was celebrating a special occasion. Now I see why O-Ku is so popular!

Spent an early evening anniversary dinner here. Most of the recommendations we found here were spot-on. We had the rock shrimp and crispy rice apps to start, then the salmon & lemon maki, tsunami roll, and spicy tuna crunch. They provided us with two complimentary glasses of champagne and topped our dessert with a 'Happy Anniversary' chocolate. The interior is elegant but we chose to spend a pleasant time to ourselves outside. My spouse was really pleased to find a cool new venue for a night out, and thanked me for 'finding' it.

    Birthday card

Went here last night for my birthday dinner and had such a good time! My server, Alana, was so sweet & helpful with the menu! I know they probably write these cards for everyone, but idc I loved it & I think it's so cute they do that!

Loved the service. Drinks we ordered twice were different each time but they were good. Oniwa, tsunami, rainbow, and the Dillion were delicious. I would return to this location again. We enjoyed our meals and we visited twice in one week! I love the decor as well.

    Ask the Community - O-Ku

    Is this place reservation only?

No, but I would highly recommend one. They book up fast.

    Is the outdoor seating heated?

Are you still offering half-off rolls on Monday, Wednesday and Friday's?

Yes they are (dine-in only though I think)

Do they offer take-out for the sushi happy hour deal?

They did the first time I went there. Got it to go and waited at the bar. But just called and they said no go to the BOGO when calling in. Maybe ordering at the bar To go and having a beer counts as dining in?

Are there any kid friendly options?

I don't recall any kid-oriented selections on the menu, that I'm aware.

Are they open for lunch? I see a few photos of lunch menus posted but no lunch hours.

Ive only known them to open at 5, sorry not much help. But if they do, please feel free to let us (me) know. Happy hunting!

Five stars, no hesitation…read more I heard about Sono Sushi through Resy and finally made it in. It's located in downtown Raleigh on Fayetteville Street, right next to the ABC 11 studios, easy to find and a great spot if you're already downtown. The ambiance is great and fits the food well. There's a nice mix of seating, tables along the windows looking out onto the street, high top tables, traditional dining tables, and a sushi bar if you want to sit up close and watch everything being made. It feels lively without being loud, and works well whether you're there for a date night or a more casual meal. We started with the Aburi appetizer, torched salmon belly, ooba, salmon roe, Japanese seabream, yuzu kosho, and ponzu, and it was outstanding. Everything worked together perfectly, rich, bright, and balanced. I also ordered ikura and ebi, even though I meant to order ama ebi, but no regrets there. Still excellent. We shared the Poke Roll with wakame, avocado, cucumber, mango, tuna, salmon, hamachi, and Sono poke sauce, and it was very good, fresh, flavorful, and well composed without being overdone. My wife ordered the spicy miso ramen and loved it. The broth was the star, deep and comforting, and the pork chashu pieces were massive, in a good way. I went with the chicken katsu curry, panko fried chicken thigh with house curry and koshihikari rice, something I haven't had since Little Tokyo in LA a few years ago, and it tasted like home. Comforting, familiar, and exactly what I was hoping for. For drinks, I ordered the "SONO? SO-YES!" entirely because of the name, but also because I love blood orange. Casamigos Blanco tequila, Cointreau, lime juice, coconut cream, simple syrup, and blood orange juice, it was excellent. My only complaint is that I wanted more of it. My wife got the Okinawa Spritz, a play on an Aperol spritz with passionfruit, and it was even better than the original. We finished with the yuzu cheesecake. I debated between that and the ube cheesecake, but since this is a Japanese restaurant, yuzu felt right, and it absolutely delivered. Overall, everything from the food to the drinks hit. This is a place I would happily return to, and honestly, I'm already looking forward to the next visit.

The crowd was not bad for a Friday night, though I recommend reserving your table if bringing a large group. We came fifteen minutes after Sono opened. I tried the hot sake on offer tonight, and it was refreshing. It kept well in the jar provided. My sushi roll was presented well. The wasabi has a strong kick to it, and so does their spicy ginger. Others in my group ordered ramen. The bowls are generously sized, comparable to what you'd receive when ordering in a Japanese ramen joint. Sono's broth is rich, and their noodles are done the way they should be. I had the opportunity to visit Japan in 2023. I can say that my meal at Sono brought back memories from the trip, and the food was of the quality I saw in Japan. Well done.

We just had water to drink, but that's okay. My husband's entree was very spicy! We began with the Shrimp & Vegetable Tempura. The shrimp was quite fresh, and the flavor gave a great mouthful of taste and some oiliness (but, not dripping). Flavor! Also, we ordered Negimaki, which are grilled beef-wrapped scallions with teriyaki sauce. One bite is the way to eat those. Love the chopsticks, too. We were each served Miso Soup and two small salads (with ginger dressing). Sure did like that (the soup had good flavor, but was a bit salty for our tastes.) My entree was Teriyaki. I am not familiar with a lot of Japanese dishes, but I do know this flavor. I ordered the Steak. This came with stir fried vegetables with a good flavor of cabbage. I liked those. White rice completed my dish. My husband ordered the Spicy Seafood Udon. This proved to be more spicy than it appeared. This dish included vegetables, udon noodles, shrimp, hokkaido scallops, squid, green mussels, in a savory & spicy garlic butter sauce. We had food leftover, so we got some containers and packed them for home. We will come back here, and perhaps eat outside (sure, the view is of a parking lot), but the high tables and the torchieres give it a nice atmosphere - perhaps as the weather turns cooler, we will enjoy being outside. My partner and I both enjoyed a mocktail version of the roselle freezy - it was amazing! Either as a mocktail or a cocktail, you should try this drink. For starters, we had the crispy chicken wings, spring rolls with veggies, and the lettuce wraps. We all enjoyed the chicken wings so much that we got a second order of them. I enjoyed the spring rolls much more than the lettuce wraps as they had more flavor to them. For dinner, we shared an order of the Manda Amphone's Curry and the chicken pad thai. I originally did not expect to be blown away by the pad thai - boy, was I wrong. This is hands down the best pad thai I have ever had. If you love pad thai, you need to try theirs.
