Best AYCE sushi / hotpot restaurant I ever for awhile. This is in North Carolina and the prices are definitely reasonable. My friends and I been here twice since we came to visit NC. The service is decent. The first time we visited during the holiday, the waiter we had was great. He was very attentive and helpful with our order. Recently, the second time was okay. They were bit busy, so whenever the servers were placing our plates down it felt like a bit of messy in terms of food placement. It doesn't look presentable. It felt like they just grabbed the food and put them onto the plate and serve dishes to us. But overall, the flavors of the food and broth of the soups we had for our hot pot was delicious. The restaurant is clean and big enough tables for everyone I feel. We will still come back and eat here when we come and visit NC again in the near future. read more

Bright open restaurant with all-you-can-eat sushi and hotpot. We did the AYCE sushi and was pleasantly surprised to know it was made to order instead of buffet style. You can order on your phone or with your server. Good place to try a lot of different stuff. Our server, Daniel C, was attentive and friendly, and gave us a lot of great recommendations. We really liked the Godzilla roll that he suggested in particular. The tuna was my favorite out of the sushi/sashimi options, and their rolls weren't made with a ton of rice, which was great. We went with friends recently and I am finally posting my review. It was such a great experience that I had to think how to put it into words. The staff were kind and professional. The amtosphere was dialed in with beautiful cherry blossom trees, beautiful murals, and unique lighting. We went with the all you can eat combined hot pot and sushi. I have not eaten so much in such a long time! We ate so much it took us a moment to digest and head out. We had full access to all the food on the menu, you do pay separately for alcohol. All of the meat was delicious and perfectly cut. The sushi rolls are a set amount of pieces but the nigiri and sashimi you select how many pieces you would like. It is not like the typical two set or three set. That was one thing that I wish was clearer in the ordering process. There is also a sauce bar with extra little desserts and fruit so definitely check that out. There were many people around it so I did not feel comfortable taking s photo. Umiya is a beautiful restaurant! I adored the decorations and vibe. A lot of AYCE restaurants feel crowded, but Umiya was so open. The service was great from beginning to end. My husband and I came for their AYCE Sushi & Hotpot lunch, which was $26.95 per person. The food was all really good, I was so busy eating I didn't take very many pictures haha. They have a sauce bar with plenty of options too. Ordering is easy with an iPad, and I loved that each item had a picture with it, super helpful when picking out what to order! Hot Pot: You each get your own individual hot pot. I got Beef Butter and my husband got Szechuan Spicy (I liked both broths). All the hotpot meats were good, and the udon noodles and Napa cabbage really soaked up the broths. I loved the pork dumplings as well! Sushi: I loved the Tuna and Salmon Tataki (it was nice to get some fish without rice). We tried 3 different specialty rolls, and I thought all of them were delicious. You can also order sushi by the piece, which is great when you want more but can't fit a whole roll! Other: I loved the shrimp tempura and jalapeño tempura. This is our go to spot for AYCE. We rarely get specialty rolls, we truly judge a good sushi place but how we they can make their salmon. Their pieces are perfectly sized for sashimi or nigiri. 35$ a person we love the quality and service, make sure to order while eating or else the wait can get long, they're always busy! Dinner and all day weekend sushi ayce is $35 I think and there's a sauce/fruit/dessert bar at your disposal. Ordering can be done through a synchronized phone website but we did have to wait around 15 min per order. Service was slow though there weren't too many people for the first half of our meal. The only dish none of us liked was the poke bowl. The sauce was too sweet and there was no avocado as advertised in the picture. Sashimi and eel based rolls were the highlight and there are so many options so it's easy to overeat past your belly's limit. Umiya is hands down the best all you can eat (AYCE) sushi spot I've been to, and it's not particularly close! What sets it apart is the quality of the fish. You're not getting tiny, low-effort pieces. The cuts are generous and fresh. I leaned heavily into the AYCE sashimi (tuna, salmon, red snapper, yellowtail, etc.), and every round delivered. It felt much closer to a traditional sushi experience than a typical AYCE setup. Service was also a big plus. The staff was very attentive, consistently checking in and bringing out orders quickly, which kept the experience smooth and enjoyable without long waits between rounds. For the price and quality, it's an incredible value and a place you can really enjoy without feeling like you're compromising. We will absolutely be going back! read more

Umiya Raleigh is an all-you-can-eat (AYCE) restaurant for sushi and hot pot. The interior is pretty spacious and there is a bar in the middle. It is really busy, especially at peak meal times and days. Each table must pick the same meal so either hot pot, sushi, or both. If AYCE does not sound good, there is also an a la carte menu for sushi. Food is ordered through a tablet at your own pace. There are so many items to choose from on the menu that it is kind of overwhelming, especially since the tablet does not tell you what each sushi roll has in it. In terms of service, I thought it was great! Very friendly and attentive workers. I came with a large group for an event and while some of the food arrived later than usual, most items came out in a timely manner. Overall, the ambiance was quite lively. I ordered the Princess Roll, Shaggy Dog Roll, and California Roll. The Princess Roll features mango sauce which I did not think paired that well with the shrimp tempura. The Shaggy Dog Roll was alright. I think that their shrimp tempura was fried in a way that made me not like the taste, which is probably why those rolls were not my favorite. I liked the California Roll as it had more crab than rice, so the crab to rice ratio was generous especially when I think about other sushi restaurants. I also got the Plain Fried Noodles which were greasy but delicious! The Tempura Oreos were also a highlight dish although I wish there was a way to still taste the cream in them when they are fried. I had heard good reviews for this place, especially the sushi so I was excited to try it. But I thought the sushi was just okay. The specialty rolls had a bit too much going on for me and I felt like the taste was off. Maybe it was an off day. I would probably give Umiya Raleigh a 3.5/5 stars if I could. Didn't get past the front register after asking the host some questions. Q1: How does this work? A: You choose either sushi, hot pot or both. Q2: What about a child? A: All people at the table has to choose the same option so if 1 chooses sushi, everyone has to choose sushi. Q2.1: Even a picky child who we brought his own food? A: Yes that's our company rules. Q3: WTF?? Also in case you didn't see it, there is a $16.99 "leftover fee" so if you select something and don't like it, you better power through it or pay a fee. And, don't bother having a get together that lasts more than 2 hours or you'll be asked to leave. Oh I gave it an extra star because the ambience was very nice but not $20+ per person nice. If you know exactly what you like and are just there to eat and leave, you may like it. Based on some of the high ratings, the food must be good. When we entered we were asked if we wanted to do the all you can eat hot pot, sushi or both. We chose AYCE sushi. You also have an option to order food separately. We were taken to our booth and given our menus. After being seated you can order and dine at the restaurant for 2 hours. Our server was attentive and personable. We placed our order and our food was brought out in a timely manner. I enjoyed some of my food with the exception of the tempura banana. It was too mushy and did not taste that good to us. The ice cream cups were ok. The fried rice was good but the shrimp in my rice was bland and just seemed to be just put in the bowl of rice. I've come here before for hotpot for dinner but have really been wanting to try the sushi. We came for lunch around 12pm on a friday and were able to be seated immediately. We ordered a bunch of things to start with. The crab puff that we ordered came out hot and fresh. All the other apps that we ordered were good and the portions were huge! We were a little surprised by the avocado salad, as it was just sliced avocado with thousand island dressing on top. We also ordered the sushi pizza, which was good, but we wish there was sauce less on top. The whole entire thing was drenched in sauce. Otherwise, the sushi rolls were all great. We've gone here twice. One time we got just the sushi side with hibachi, the second we got hotpot too. Some of the spicy soup bases for hotpot are HOT! Beware. But we love the steak and shrimp. Umiya offers AYCE sushi or hotpot or both, you must select either or or both. They also offer a la carte dining service as well. I went on a Sunday evening and they were quite busy but I was lucky to be seated right away. I believe other patrons that were waiting were waiting for tables that had burners for the hotpot. You have 2 hours for the AYCE selection and you are provided a paper menu but you order via smartphone from a QR Menu provided by chowbus. You can put in an order every 5 minutes or so and your food will come out in waves after your order is sent to the kitchen. If you are doing hotpot in the middle of the buffet is where you create and grab all of your sauces (hoisin, siracha, green onion, seasme oil, etc.) it also has a small selection of food such as pineapple and oranges. The fish quality ranged from pretty good to just OK. I stuck mostly to standard rolls, hand rolls, nigiri, and sashimi with a few appetizers. The salmon tasted fresh whereas some of the tuna tasted a bit fishy. The eel nigiri was good though a bit too sweet for me. The hand rolls and standard rolls are nice because they don't pack in too much rice. I noticed some of the sashimi was more thick cut and the quality ranged from good to not that great so YMMV with that. They also offer hibachi (steak, chicken, shrimp) and the same variations of meat with teriyaki, noodles, and fried rice. They even offer dessert (ice cream, fried oreos, fried bananas). Some of the appetizers were pretty good such as the Tataki and Cappaccio. Definitely try the Smoky Mountain as that has tuna with crispy rice. The area is pretty spacious and is dimly lit so it's not that bright inside. There was a mix of kpop to standard pop music playing while I was there. Umiya was a great addition to the sushi and hotpot scene in the Triangle. At this All-You-Can-Eat spot, you can decide between AYCE Sushi, AYCE Hot Pot or both! I personally got the All You Can Eat sushi, and I was so happy with my choice. The sashimi was EXCELLENT. I was especially blown away with the salmon. It was melt in your mouth GOOD. I tried a few of the sushi rolls, and thought that the rolls were creative and well-made. They had a good balance of ingredients and were not stuffed with rice. Overall, the menu has a lot of options, and I really felt there was something for everyone. Pro-tip, leave room for the deep fried oreos after! In the middle of the restaurant is a sauce bar that also offers some fresh fruit. I tried some of the sago here, too. It was a nice surprise. My one complaint about Umiya is that we struggled a little bit with using the tablet for ordering. It seemed to freeze up sporadically, and was at times not very intuitive to use. The server was really nice with helping us order whenever the tablet did not work for us. Heads up, Umiya is in an unassuming strip mall plaza, but don't let that confuse you. Again, the portion sizes were a lot smaller than expected, two rolls were person, if you're hungry. Walked in around 9pm, the restaurant closes at 10pm they were just about to stop seating so get there at least an hour before closing. Be aware of the wait time on a weekend dinner time. It was 45 minutes wait and they have a large waiting area, but it's near the door so it's very cold. If you go in further into the restaurant, there's a small area with fake grass, floor seating, and screens for little ones. The wait was long, but it was well worth it. Expect to spend around $50 per person if you want both sushi and hotpot. The place is extremely loud. The food is brought to you and you order from a tablet. For a place this large and busy, their service was good. I do think they would do better if they had one more self-service sauce bar to prevent roadblock. There's also a safety hazard if anyone spills, the entire place is slippery and that's the only place to get the sauce. read more

Overall: I think Umiya fulfills its job as a higher end all you can eat sushi place. The primary difference is that Umiya lets you order all-you-can-eat sashimi. But I think aside from that, most of the sushi is more or less on par with other places. Food: The sushi here I think varies, some cuts are better on average, some are a little weaker. But overall, I think the sushi here was good and on par with other all-you-can-eat sushi spots. Service: I think because we had a less experienced server, we ended up with a lot of questions that the server didn't know how to answer. Basic questions like "what are some rolls you recommend with tuna in it" for example. Not a huge problem though because over the course of our meal we had several different waiters come help us. Pretty solid all you can eat sushi spot. The interior is well decorated, clean, and expansive, crating white a nice atmosphere while maintaining a good amount of causalness. The menu options available for all you can eat are extensive and all quite tasty, whether specifically the sushi options including sashimi and nigiri, or the various delicious appetizers included. The service and staff were quite friendly, and food came out in a timely manner. They do require that all at the table are partaking in the same dining option (ayce vs à la carte), which makes sense though do keep in mind if going with a group as you may have to split up. Now while the space is expansive and able to accommodate groups both small and large, their ordering system is abysmal for larger groups. You order through a QR code which takes you to your tables "cart". You put in your name, and are then able to add things to the cart off the menu and every 5 minutes you can send the cart to the kitchen; issue is, it's a collective cart, meaning you are editing everybodies order and this can cause some confusion as others may remove your items in accident as it's initially not always clear who placed which order. Now you'd imagine your name is attached to the items you placed since you gave it at the beginning, however this is apparently not the case. As the waiters brought items out they were not associated with individuals, just the table, cause a frenzy of confusion as not only can everybody not remember all the details of what they ordered, we are not experts and able to identify individual items ourselves either. On top of that many have ordered the same items. Additionally, they would plate multiple orders together causing more confusion. This happened two ways, if multiple people had ordered the jalapeño yellowtail let's say, they'd stuck all of them on the same plate making it seem like a single order to some. And then if multiple people had ordered different rolls, they'd be placed on the same platter (not even the same roll, multiple orders from multiple people all just in the same platter) so then how are we supposed to split that up? And how are we supposed to figure out whose is whose. Just all sorts of confusion. While the waiters were able to help in identifying dishes, they did not have any names associated with the orders, just the table number, so that was really of minimal help. Also made you wonder why they took your name down if they were not even attempting to keep track of it. The only way it really worked is if you ordered family style and forsake individual ordering, which again only works if you all share similar preferences. It had a lot of potential, but the messy ordering system took away from the overall experience. If going in a small group I would recommend where then you can keep track yourselves, but in a slightly larger group it is definitely quite confusing. Pricing is fair if you actually eat and order smartly. read more
