Back then there wasn't much in this shopping center where it's located but once Trader Joe's opened up, it's survived quite the expansion. The dining area to the left of the entrance has a clean look with warm colored walls and bamboo covered chairs. With that said, if you plan to have a long stay with friends, the bamboo chairs become hard on your bottom and the straight-back chair hard on your back. Service was good with a nice gentleman who looked like he could fit very well in a restaurant like Irregardless. He was pleasant, patient and attentive. The Pad Thai at medium spice was just a little less than expected with a little heat throughout. The taste was good with a little sweetness, thin slices of chicken and noodles that were shorter in length. The Pineapple Thai Fried Rice had less spice at medium spice and was also good. Overall, the experience was good and the price during lunchtime very reasonable about $11 per dish. Would recommend a visit if you're nearby. If you plan to sit awhile, bring a cushion! read more

Prior to a concert night, we were searching for a dinner option and the group agreed on sushi as an option. We came across ShabaShabu on Yelp and decided it was worth the try. Located in a shopping center, it was easy to get to with ample parking. The restaurant was fairly empty so we were seated as soon as we walked in. I was surprised to see such a large and comprehensive menu of both Japanese and Thai options, and honestly it could stand to either be slimmed or organized differently. So many pages of small print text made it hard to narrow down choices, and even some pictures could have helped here. We ended up with a variety of sushi, an appetizer, and a noodle dish. One of the big things here is the BOGO sushi offerings, which is certainly appealing for a value and variety standpoint. We made sure to order enough to maximize the discount, though it's important to remember they apply the discount to the cheapest items. One other weird quirk is they will only honor the BOGO for a single check, so if you're with a group and want to split checks this becomes a problem. Our group chose to have a single check and paid each other directly instead to make sure we got the discount. All of the food was pretty good. The sushi offerings were perfectly decent though nothing remarkable, but the value to quality balance needs to be taken into account. The restaurant itself could use a bit of work, since between hard chairs, lots of black and red paint, and mostly empty seats it didn't feel super inviting. Decided to drop in after a Trader Joe's haul. The service was quick and attentive. The colors and decor didn't make me feel like eating- red is kinda harsh and the chairs were hard. The food was acceptable, but underwhelming. Reading the reviews, there wasn't a popular dish mentioned. I'm wary of having sushi when I don't see a sushi bar. The Tom Yum soup was nicely flavored but it was difficult to tell if the shrimp were completely cooked- important since I'm allergic to raw. The shumai was tiny and somewhat tasteless. The Pad Thai was a total fail. Way too sweet, hardly any bean sprouts and tiny cubes of fried tofu with the mystery shrimp Not sure why the ratings are so high. No need to return. read more

Popped in for lunch today and I have to say this place is always a good choice! The staff is always kind and courteous. It's never terribly crowded and even so, it still feels intimate with the group with whom you're sharing a meal! They have daily lunch specials and BoGo sushi rolls. Friday's special is the pineapple fried rice (my favorite) and it was just as delicious as always! I also decided to get the dragon roll which is my forever favorite - something about that eel ! I have dined here a few times. I wrote this review previously and it disappeared. I'm going to repost this review. While the sushi is great here. I question the service the last time I was here. There were two of us and the waiter refused to split the check. We were told because this was policy and it was written on the menu. I don't recall seeing this. I do understand not splitting checks is a normal practice for large parties. This was not that. I have never returned. I don't know that I will. This is a favorite lunch place for meeting up with friends and relatives as the atmosphere is quiet so you can actually carry on a conversation and hear it. It's in the Trader Joe's shopping center on Wake Forest Road near the beltline. Plenty of parking, even though it's a busy strip mall. They do take reservations, but usually there's no problem getting in (at least for lunch, can't attest for dinner). Love the Thai lunch specials. Not huge quantities, but very tasty and nicely prepared. Kee Mao and Basil Chicken are favorites. Do know if you order shrimp on a lunch meal, it will be just three. Great prices for the quality. They also have Japanese items on the menu including some BOGO rolls. I personally stick with Thai here, but have been with others who were happy with their Japanese selections. My friends and I dined here for lunch this past Saturday. Overall, it was okay. My friend loves their gyoza and salad (only for the ginger dressing). My other friend ordered a dish that had red curry and tofu. I ordered two rolls of sushi, the Wolfpack Roll and the Dynamite Roll. I wasn't overly impressed with either roll and like others have commented, they were very small rolls. At a typical sushi restaurant I can barely eat one roll, but had no problems eating both at this restaurant. My friend's red curry dish was very good and my other friend was thrilled to learn that ShabuShabu sells their ginger dressing by the container. We were there for an early dinner so tables were plentiful but the place filled up quickly. Service is quick and pleasant. Approximately 10 minutes from order to service. Massaman curry with shrimp is delicious. Perfect shrimp, onion, avocado, potatoes in a pool of creamy curry sauce, slightly sweet with the tiniest bit of heat. Plus a crock of sticky rice to mix in. A favorite combination, done well. 1 point off for leaving the shrimp tails-on. It's a pain to fish the shrimp out and de-tail. Pineapple dried rice is a unique and tasty choice. Freshly wok-ed fried rice, tossed with chunks of pineapple and a few raisins make a nice combo of sweet and savory. This option included tofu - a BIG portion of cubed tofu, nicely stir-fried with a crunchy outside and soft inside. Lastly a couple of sushi rolls. The star is the sweet potato rolls. Small chunks of tempura-style sweet potato ensconced with veggies and topped with avocado. Tasty! A full menu of other choices to try... Will be back to this place! read more

Was told by a couple of coworkers that I must try Shabu Shabu as their sushi is amazing and I have to agree! I arrived at lunchtime, so it was pretty busy. The manager warmly greeted me and took me to my table. My waiter was a little cold and it felt like he was rushed. He sat down my menu and asked me right away what I wanted. I told him that I needed a couple of minutes and he did not come back or even around me for like 10 minutes. Before my stomach could eat itself he reappeared and took my order. I got their BOGO sushi deal, and decided to get the Wolfpack roll and Samurai roll. The Wolfpack roll has crab, avocado, scallions, and tempura flakes. The Samurai roll had cream cheese, salmon, and scallions. Wow! They give you a generous portion of fresh sushi along with ginger and Wasabi. Everything is fresh and so worth the wait! It still stays good as I could not finish the rolls and took them with me. I cannot wait to come back as a couple of dudes next to me had their Thai basil which came with tons of veggies! Shaba Shabu has long been our go to for Thai and/or Japanese but tonight they went above and beyond in service and hospitality too. We came to eat with our toddler who typically loves restaurants. Tonight she was a little antsy so we thought we may need to switch to take out. Instead, they let us sit in the private room in the back and even brought out special things to entertain our girl. It was fairly empty so we had no issues getting a seat right away and getting our food on time. There is an option of booth or regular seating. It has a modern set up which created a nice atmosphere for dining. I really liked how the menu is set up where sushi rolls are buy one get one free and dinner is available and served all day every day. Our server was professional and greeted us with pleasantries. We ordered soup, entrées, and sushi. All items came out in a timely manner. Everything was cooked well and tasted great. I ordered Doordash from this restaurant ...as an ex-dasher, I k ew the name and wanted to give it a try. I got Thai coffee, Fresh Rolls and Shrimp Pad Thai. The coffee- It was disgusting. I tried... I'm an avid coffee fan and love a good Thai coffee. This- no. Gross- it just wasn't right and not worth drinking. I had the fresh rolls. One busted open, the filling was almost all lettuce, very few other fillings, drrryyyy pork and fishy tasting shrimp. I know a good summer roll- this was NOOOOT it. I then gave the Pad Thai a shot. I NEVER waste food- but after a few tries and alterations- it was inedible. 3 shrimp in the whole dish, dry and hard to swallow, pad Thai was pasty, dry, and inedible. Man, this place brings back memories! I used to eat here when I was in undergrad (many, many moons ago). Not sure why we stopped going, but a friend suggested we go there. We did a call in order for pick-up. Looking at the Google menu my friend ordered: Chicken Pad Thai Soft Shell Crab & Chicken Yellow Curry First, she was told that Soft Shell Crab & Chicken Yellow Curry was not in their system. She let them know, she was looking at the menu and they might want to update it as that's what was showing. After so additional confusion from the person taking the order, they decided on how it would be ordered and confirmed the order. We await 20 to 30 mins to leave and pick-up the food. Once she arrives, she checks the order. It's incorrect - now what went from a 20 to 30 min wait, turns into almost an 1 hour long transaction to get the food. They gave her extra chicken for the wait. She said the Pad Thai was good. They provided a good amount for the serving. As well, she stated the crab was good. I ate the crispy chicken curry. The flavor of the curry was amazing! Very flavor packed. If you are not used to curry, please note that when it separates - there is a LARGE film of oil that sits at the top as the rest of the ingredients fall to the bottom. My only complaint was the breaded chicken. There was SOOO much of it, it took away from the dish. At one point, it was if I was eating breading with rice and curry sauce - not appeasing. Pierce was our server, he had the perfect balance of checking in but not being annoying! I ordered the lychee orange cucumber drink and it was sooooo good, very refreshing! I was torn between ordering the chicken or shrimp pad thai and ended up with chicken. The food had great presentation and flavor. The portion size was perfect too! I usually frequent Shaba Shabu and order the same thing each time. A salmon roll tempura and a vegan sweet potato roll. I've never had an issue with the food. I normally dine in or order through Uber eats and have no troubles. I decided to place an order for pickup on their online system this past Saturday. Upon submitting my order I noticed that I was double charged. When I went to pick up my food the host that is usually there assisted me. The first thing I asked him was did he see one or two orders under my name in his system. He responded that he only saw one order under my name. That is when I showed him that I've been charged twice. I showed him my Apple Pay where two deductions both $19.68 were taken out from Shabu Shabu. He said that this normally happens to everyone when placing an order online. He asked that I do not call my bank and assured me that the funds that were overcharged to my card would be refunded by Monday. Today is Tuesday and my funds were not added back to my card. I feel like I have been scammed from my favorite sushi restaurant. It is bad business practice to allow everyone that is ordering online and paying through Apple Pay to be double charged. After not finding a restaurant in the area that serves lamb shanks. I decided to do a full 360 and get some Thai food instead. Well I figured I would get the pad thai which is a dish I truly enjoy. I ordered the Shrimp Pad Thai ( rice noodle stir-fry, eggs, bean sprouts and roasted peanuts). The good thing is the stir-fried rice noodles were really good. The portion size was really good. They must have used a quail egg because it was at best minimal in this dish. The price of shrimp must be really high because they rationed them on my plate a a total of 5.
