My friend wore the shoes briefly but immediately got painful blisters. They hurt even more when she walked in our home. When she tried to return / exchange them, the manager gave her the worst attitude and talked about having to take a loss! This is definitely not the appropriate behavior of a shop in an upscale shopping area. I don't recommend them at all. Note: There was a salesman who was trying to be helpful prior to the incident with the manager.

Ohhhhhh kayyyy. We…read morehad stayed in Carmel for the holiday weekend. My dad is hard of hearing and his wife has limited English. She had gone in to this store to do some shopping. My dad came in and was standing around, I came in shortly afterward and asked if he wanted to get coffee next door while his wife shopped. We left and got coffee. We were sitting at a table right outside the shop, when his wife came out and sat with us. She checked her receipt and was shocked that she had spent $320! She went back in to return it, only to come back out and ask me to come back in with her. She couldn't understand the sales lady. I went in, and pleasantly said " I'm the translator " and gave a little " haha" kinda mentality to it. The blond sales lady said " we told her that our store policy is that we don't give cash refunds. Only exchange with in three days for store credit". Then pointed to a TINY sign next to the register stating the policy. I was reading the sign- and before I could even finish reading, the blond woman continues " I told her $295 about 3 or 4 times. Your husband out there heard me say it. She heard me say it. I don't know why she can't understand." I was blown away! I said " firstly- that's my father. HER husband. Secondly, she has limited English skills so forgive her. Thirdly- he's almost deaf, HE DIDNT HEAR YOU. And lastly, let's drop that whole idea because no one but HER was in her shopping. We didn't hear you say anything." She just stood there with a stone cold smug face and said " okay". Then she looks at my tattoo and says " nice tattoos" with a snotty attitude and a sour puss on her face. I said " okay. Let me tell my father your policy and see what he wants her to do " and walked out. She came out about 3 min later and said they would " make an exception " after speaking with the owner. Aka: she decided that unfair discrimination for disability and ethnicity wasn't something she felt like battling. After getting home and reading the reviews- I'm seeing that plenty of people have issues with the return policy. I get it- that's the rules- it's within your right legally. But I have a feeling this chick spoke fast and charged quick- only to hide behind the return policy. We probably would have chalked it up to an expensive mistake- had the sales woman not opened her mouth and spewed her snotty attitude all over us. #prettywomanmoment

Knowing that this outdoor shopping center was 3 stories and had over 30 stores, I expected the area around it to be like a city center, with heavy foot and car traffic, lots of noise, and business advertisement. Instead, I wasn't sure if we were in the right place, because the neighborhood looked residential. The city planners/architects did a really nice job to implement this intention. The shopping center first opened in 1960, as an open-air courtyard style with a luxury department store, unheard of at the time for a town that small. Throughout the years, it hosted a major department store chain (Saks Fifth Avenue) as well. Now, in keeping with Carmel's intention to not have any national brand retail in it's city limits, the majority of stores/restaurants at this mall are local (though there are exceptions like Tiffany & Co, Anthropologie, and Brunello Cuccinelli). We got lucky and found free street a block from the center. Even on a Monday late morning, it was quite busy with tourists and locals alike hanging out in the main courtyard. A really nice feature was the large outdoor gas firepit that people were using to keep warm. We had come for a particular restaurant, but were informed that they were closed for the day for a private event (no signs or mention on their website)...I guess that's how this particular business rolls.

The center has three different levels with stairs in the middle and each side or if you desire an elevator, there is one on the end. During the weekend or summertime when it's busy, parking can be a challenge. There is a parking garage not far away if the street is full. If that is full, you may need to walk a bit. There is also some great places to eat such as The Flying Fish, a coffee shop, and a wine maker or two. In the center of the plaza, there is space to sit and enjoy the environment-just find some shade if it's warm!

It is impressive and so fashionable like my mother herself. Lots of classic pumps, ballet flats, sky high stilettos clogs, mules, sandals in a rainbow of colors- high end designer shoes like Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blah ik,Gucci, Prada Armani, Celine and Ralph Lauren. Shoes that I would NEVER buy myself even if i could afford them. I digress, but the point is that I have shoes galore, but the Cole Hahn brand on major sale are the epitome of practical comfort and too good to pass up. I kept picking up pairs that I loved and finding that they were either in stock, able to be ordered and shipped for free AND 50% off . Shout out to super salesman Brian- who kept checking the back, finding pairs online for me. 5 pair, including the best ballet flats, red patent leather and leopard flats with a bow, black satin kitten heels and slip on sneakers. I was out the door in half an hour with a grand total of $393. Yep- less than $80 a pair for premium, practical shoes that fit my lifestyle perfectly. Time to get rid of some of the less practical pair of my mom's shoes to make room in my closet....
