O'Neals was awesome! Passed by on Friday afternoon right before happy hour and got to experience some great banter with the bartender. The service was a big part of the experience, all the staff were welcoming and shared their stories from working at O'Neals for some time. The loaded baked potato was soooo good, I remember the freshness of the chives and the crunch on the bacon. There is ample seating and they keep the patio doors open providing a nice fresh breeze. O'Neals is definitely a landmark for Philly, they have a great beers on tap and a variety of "mystery" drinks from the fridge. I'll definitely be returning the next time I'm in Philly. read more

We were staying at an Airbnb nearby and decided to try O'Neals. What a find! Its like the kind of bar I wish was my local, drinks are good, great choice and very reasonably priced (compared to London!). Staff (Sue) was lovely and has great craic with the owner Spoonie, we even thought they were married! We felt welcomed by staff and punters. Dogs are allowed inside on the main floor and also at the outdoor seasonal beer garden (there is a 2nd floor, but no dogs allowed). It's an old building and small/narrow, so we recommend going during the week and during the day so your dog is comfortable before the happy hour and weekend crowds fill the place. They also have a nice food menu (Philly cheese steak anyone?) with reasonable prices and the super friendly bartender will make some recommendations on cocktails or from their huge list of beers. We kept it local with a Philadelphia Brewing Co.'s Walt Wit. This past Sunday I was in town from Atlanta and found O'Neals from a "Steelers bars" Google search. A majority of fans were watching from the 2nd floor bar tucked in the back corner. Sound was on, there were plenty of TV's, the bartender was awesome and the Yuengling on draft made this a 5 star experience. What really set O'Neals apart was the kindness I received after calling to let them know I had left my purse at the bar, but was about to board my flight back to Atlanta. My friends sat outside as it was a really nice night out. About 5 minutes after standing at the bar, the bartender finally came to greet me, in the most unfriendly tone. He asked if I was sitting outside, in which I replied that my friends were outside, he quickly stated that outside was not available for service. But when DJ Jerry, their current karaoke host, constantly disrespects people he does not know and treats the ones he sees as regulars with preferential treatment - I think its fair to call it out. Whether its calling the crowd "b****es and gentlemen", talking over loudly while people Dj Jerry doesnt know sing, intentionally putting people last in the lineup, bumping up his cronies to an absurd amount or literally screaming at a kind woman next to me who simply wanted to sign up- his hosting, service and even equipment was abysmal. I will never know if the food is good nor do I think I would ever want to come back to try. Dj Jerry did not make me feel welcome and honestly, the rest of my friends and as well as even strangers i did not know. I watch his blatant disrespect for patrons. Funny enough- when our whole group of paying patrons started leaving, we were suddenly called to karaoke. AS IF BY MAGIC - we were suddenly up next (after waiting more than enough time for our turns) By then, we had enough. No, you cant bribe us with the mic- when the problem is the MC. Disappointed to hear that Alexis has been let go due to some reviews on this app. She is the main reason I have become a regular at this bar for karaoke. I was present for an incident described in a previous negative review where a large group came in for a birthday party. I didn't really notice them in particular till they were leaving, but they certainly did not leave quietly as was claimed. Instead they were all yelling at Alexis and one member of the party got behind the bar and refused to move. I have always found Alexis to be welcoming and attentive to the needs of patrons. I will be going to one of the many other bars that have karaoke instead if Alexis is no longer working there probably Adobe Cafe. read more

My fiance and I have been going to oneals for 8 years. 2nd floor Karaoke with Dj Jerry(look him up and hire him, he is the best and really knowledgeable). The bartenders Previously Phil , presently Alexis(probably the main reason we go cause we follow Jerry all over). Both great bartenders who like to sing and will remember you and your orders/choices ... the barback "Stausssshhh" might be my favorite human in philadelphia. The food has been great most of the time... it can get busy so order early. The darts is/can be fun. Dj Jerry and Alexis make you feel like family . After reading the big review (incoherent review) that happened with alexis makes no sense! as a regular who has been going to Oneal's for more than 10 years...it is far from perfect. but Alexis has NEVER referred to Oneal's as "her bar" she is not racist. she always makes announcements before she sings to let everyone know that she will be with them as soon as the song is over. she is only nasty if someone is nasty with her. to fire her over a karen makes no sense. why not counsel her? ask her not to sing for a period of time? but to just fire her over some person who probably wont come back anyway? alexis was a selling point when i would tell people about oneal's pub. It was my birthday on October 20th and I had a few friends celebrating with me. We wanted to go to a karaoke bar that night which is why we picked this spot. I was very disappointed with the vibe starting with the manager and it got even worse with the bartender that was working on the second floor. I stumbled upon this place on accident walking through Philly. Turned out to be a pretty solid place. Pretty typical bar food with a few items that would qualify as Irish pub food. I was able to get a patio table with a propane heater right next to it and there was a TV outside with a soccer match on so that was cool. I got the $5 burger special and a pint of Guinness...no complaints here. Its not fine dining but if you go in here with realistic expectations you will probably really enjoy your experience. read more

First time (as an adult) in Philly, and while I'm not a fan of cheese steaks, this place caught my eye. I have a think for dive bar type places, or little hole in the wall pubs such as this one. I just feel like you get the best service, types of people, and food. And i wasn't wrong with this spot. You walk in and you are greeted by the warm smell of fried food and beer. Blasting Irish music as well as random songs (it was karaoke the night we went) i will suggest they just constantly play Irish music though, maybe some Flogging Mollies?! Anyways, i had the fish and chips & Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was actually terrible and I'd suggest never getting it ever (if you're reading this remove it from the menu) and my BFF got the Chipotle Sandwich but with a burger. Just to take a moment I'm reading and some of these reviews are so inconsistent with my and others' experiences...I just want to say that the head bartender, Alexis is wonderful and the reason why I kept coming after my first visit...she is protective and well meaning and always looking out for her customers and the welfare of others. She is friendly, warm and always looking to make people more comfortable. It feels like a safe place to make the unsafe effort of karaoke for some of us! And it feels so supportive. The regulars follow suit and are very encouraging, and we always share how lucky we are to be surrounded by such wonderful staff. If she is no longer there, many people are going to be very upset and heartbroken. I am just floored about this. The crowd is diverse and all ages are welcomed and I always bring my friends from out of town or old co workers and they always say what a staff and what an experience - and my friends are of diverse backgrounds...I even have came across out of towners who revisit, too. read more

He assured me that this person will no longer be working here because of how many people have similar experiences to mine. He shouldn't have to take the heat for someone else's action especially since now he'll make sure no one else has to go through what I and other customers have experienced* I have never wrote a yelp review before, so if this doesn't speak to how incredibly awful my experience here was then I don't know what else to say. 1 star is just so I can get this review posted but if I could do negatives I would. I went here for a friends' birthday the other night and everything was great downstairs. Because of that we proceeded to go upstairs. Later that night, the bartender was singing Karaoke (behind the bar) which fine have fun. I looked over at her, and yes I did want water for a friend who wasn't feeling well. And she said straight to my face "if you f***ing dare to ask me for something while I'm singing right now, you can f*** off" so I got scared honestly and walked to the end of the bar to get the water. They were already acting weird, but I let it go. I got what I needed, so I didn't go back to the bar after that interaction cause why would I? The song ended and the bartender signed me to go over to her and she goes "now that I am done, what the f*** do you want?" and I just started apologizing furiously and said I already got what I needed and just apologized for essentially expecting her to do her job. I then explained, I myself work in the service industry and as an asian woman working in it, I just have experienced stuff like this because asian woman are sometimes more reserved and non-confrontational. And she screamed something along the lines, not FULLY her quote "well that's surprising (in regards to working in the service industry) and if you get treated like this as an asian woman then maybe you should check yourself" and literally kept yelling. I allowed her to yell because I was speechless. I did say out loud towards the end "i am shocked this is happening right now" because I was just in complete utter shock. Like I couldn't even speak back besides the times I was overly apologizing or said the above quote. She then proceeded to say it's my bar, then high-fived all the people sitting at the bar after screaming at me. High-fived...she was excited she just screamed at a paying customer who was APOLOGIZING to her for essentially wanting her to do her job for a second but backed off as soon as it was clear she wanted to sing over do her job. I kept my cool because I wasn't there for me, but I was just screamed at, had a racist comment made to my face, and humiliated in front of other people. But of course, I started to tear up, in obvious SHOCK. Which made a friend of mine to look at the barback and he started to laugh at me and she did yell. That part wasn't handled so greatly, and we know that. But everything leading up to that, we were nothing but respectful AND EVEN THEN I was apologizing which now makes me sick I was doing that. I personally couldn't imagine treating someone I dislike like this let alone someone paying at YOUR bar because of course she had to throw the "I own this bar" line and for what? i have no idea, for power trip clearly. And I felt astonished by my experience and then read like 3 more with the same exact experience. Except maybe trade singing for watching tv or whatever. Insane.
