Was looking to check out some Halloween themed bars during a recent work trip to Philly and was pleasantly surprised to find a few. We checked out Uptown one of the nights and it was great. Do not get the polar espresso drink. I came on a busy Friday and it was busy but it was okay because the beer garden is huge. If you walk in it looks like a winter wonderland and then the outdoor space has bars as well as other tables and fire pits to stay warm. There are several areas for you to sit outside and it made me wish I had come more during the warmer seasons because it's super cute outside. However, the drink I ordered was absolutely not what I expected. When I ordered the drink the bar tender pulled out a bag from the bar area put ice in and a candy cane and handed it to me. When I took my first sip all I tasted was tequila. When I had initially complained, I had asked if they could add more coffee or something to make it taste like a cocktail and the bartender told me that it was premade before their shift so there was nothing the could do except add whip cream. Came here with some friends recently. I think that the Uptown Beer Garden has lost all of its hype since their opening, and it's a neat place to experience maybe once. Presently decorated for Halloween, there are Christmas lights in orange all over along with fall colored streamers on the ceiling. There's multiple Halloween themed decor throughout and "spooky" named drinks. The night we were there the server called out so the bartenders were handling more than usual. However, the place was dead at 6pm so it wasn't too hard for them. The food served is typical bar fare like pretzels, onion rings, and mozzarella sticks. They also have a salad and chicken fingers. The beer was presently an Octoberfest (two brands) and a lot of canned cocktails were available. The food we ordered was delivered to our table relatively quickly, and our bartender/server was friendly enough. The place is "outdoors" but covered and you have bathroom covered access to an actual building next door. To get in the stall was a bit acrobatic. $118 for three adults for drinks and several appetizers. The other two adults with us paid their own way. I did not take any pictures. After Halloween, they'll shut down for a bit to prepare for Christmas. I'm told that at one time Uptown Beer Garden used to be impossible to get in and was the hot spot. Definitely not anymore. PHILADELPHIA: Uptown Beer Garden is back open with their "Uptown Express" holiday themed indoor/outdoor beer garden and tiki bar that is dog friendly and right across from LOVE Park. It is decorated so beautifully throughout the expansive space with multiple bars to order a Christmas themed cocktail, a local winter beer, and get something to eat from small plates to mains. Our bartender, Bri, was super sweet and so attentive, especially with it being VERY busy! They also have a big screen TV to watch the game in the back and even heaters to keep things warm. I've always wanted to go here during the holiday season to see their decorations, so I'm glad we did. We really liked the ambiance and decorations they had inside the bar. They had multiple areas with Christmas trees, lights, and extravagant decorations! We decided to order off of their special holiday drink menu. Great space carved out in the middle of Central City. We decided to drown our sorrows at how small the LOVE sign is in Philly with some drafts. The location wasn't busy yet but I know it'll get busy with the warmer weather but a Saturday after of Pride weekend was surprisingly quiet which was fine for my family and I. We were able enjoy the quiet area in the back with our loud group of 8 people. There were picnic tables and couches for us to relax on walking from Reading Terminal Market which was able a 15 min walk to City Hall. The drinks were pretty standard with drafts of local breweries along with slushies and cocktails for those that don't enjoy a cold beer. We swung by for the Stranger Things Pop Up a few weeks back. No one carded us or stopped us at the entrance, so we walked right in. Inside it was crowded, but not so crowded we couldn't move. I imagine it will be a lot more crowded on Halloween weekend. We walked around, taking pictures with everything -- Demodogs, Demogorgan, the pizza van, Vecna. The floating Max in the middle of the Garden was great. I have to say the props at Uptown Beer Garden are extremely well done and more up to date with the current season than the actual Stranger Things Experience in New York I was at this past summer. As for food, it's typical bar food and drinks. The lines for food and drinks extended all the way to the back, and we would most likely have to stand to eat or drink, so we left. I'd say it was pretty awesome to have been able to check out this extremely well done pop up for free. read more

I didn't get a chance to try them during the Christmas holiday season but my group stopped by on a Friday evening to check out the Stranger Things setup for the season. Before entering the areas we were carded and had an amazing hostess who was very personable and nice to connect with and she led us to the more central but quieter area of the establishment. During our walk and throughout, the decorations and details were spot on and very thoughtful. I'm very impressed with the setup, you can tell whoever designed this had pride in recreating the Stranger Things theme! The service, from our table server was lack luster, and toed the line of rudeness. It seemed our server didn't even want to be there, and seemed annoyed to even answer our questions. It hurts a bit to automatically tip this type of behavior because it contradicts the meaning of tip! The food, not bad but not amazing either, but we weren't expecting that from this establishment. Very well decorated and festive and various areas to sit once you put your name in. It was slightly crowded but we still were sat at a table in a relatively short time. And that was the good. The specialty cocktails were just okay. Overpriced but it's the city so to be expected. Nothing really great though, just average. The Snow Bird and Smiling's My Favorite were decent. Nothing we'd order again. Also got a couple winter beers including the Sly Fox Christmas Ale (good) and Troeg's Mad Elf (great). Now onto the really bad parts. First the food. Carnival fries which they say are seasoned but are not. Essentially Arby's curly fries with cold cheese sauce and bacon bits. Skip them. Next were the mozzarella sticks. Literally no cheese pull on these if that's your thing. Tiny side of marina too. Basically polly-o string cheese that was put in the fryer for the minimal amount of time. Mac & cheese bites literally came out cold and were the worst thing we had. Uptown Smash burger was half decent but only because we compared it to the rest of the not-so-good cold plates we had earlier. Only item that was remotely good was the Bavarian Pretzel, but if you mess up a soft pretzel and beer cheese sauce, just close up shop. Service was not good. Server took our order and we maybe saw her one more time before the check came. Someone else delivered our food and drinks. Kinda frustrating especially when they get an automatic 20% tip because we had 6 people at our table. So the server doesn't care to be helpful because they know they are getting 20% no matter what. They also add Service Fees to the check, so be ready for that in addition to the automatic gratuity and taxes. It's a one and done for us. read more

Uptown Beer Garden is a fun and spacious outdoor holiday bar with lots of seating (and space heaters). I was able to get two drinks and a soft pretzel for around $40 before service fees, tax and gratuity. The drinks were actually delicious; not watered down, cheap, or gimmicky like you would expect from a festive bar. Let me preface this by saying I'd rather give them 4 stars than 3, but the true rating was about a 3.5-3.7. Shout out to our server Patrick for checking on our table and getting us taken care of pretty quickly. 5/5 The food was pretty good, a solid 4. I had the pulled pork sliders but they don't come with fries, for the price I assumed they would. I ate fries off my partners plate. This was a deduction (price:fries). I had sprite to drink because I don't drink any more (at a beer garden I know, haha). The sliders are small but you get 3 and they're topped with coldslaw, and they were good. I would go again and would definitely probably order everything I ordered again with the addition of a side of fries. read more

My husband and I did our annual trip to tinsel. We tried to go to craftsman's row afterwards but you needed a reservation so we got food somewhere else and then decided to come here. I didn't realize tinsel and uptown beer garden were owned by the same company. They have a lot of the same drinks. I definitely like tinsel better as it's more over the top Christmasy. But this place was nice to come to afterwards as it's more laid back and you have more room to move. We couldn't go in the back to the one bar because there was a private party going on. And a lot of the tables had reserved signs on it as well so we could only sit at the bar. But it was nice to walk around and look at the Xmas lights and I got some photos in a sled. So my wife was ecstatic to take our family to Uptown Beer Garden for dinner after seeing Tik Toks of the businesses Stranger Things theme. We would soon regret that decision, aside from maybe 3 decorations that were cool more then some were completely off so the theme failed to excite anyone. The character Max looked like a child drew her face on, and the gateway to the upside down looked more like an irritated vulva or let's say a Blue Waffle. It was kinda uneasy having teenagers who would immediately see that and think the same before we sit to eat dinner. But let's get to the dinner menu, wait wait there was none. What you see in the picture I've shown is the only food items they had on the menu as they fail to post on any social media platform that the business is changing it's menu and only have fries, wings and tenders for the next couple days. It was infuriating knowing people travel here for the experience and not only get knock off decor but also bar food in a dinning atmosphere w/ a side of the scent of urine from the homeless people who sleep and defecate outside of the establishment. We drove an hr to be completely disappointed and leave hungry as the wings were under cooked (high chance of salmonella for sure) but were seasoned to look crispy on the outside, we left a majority of it on the table as we got up and just left immediately. I would not recommend this business to anyone friend or foe, rather save your money and go to a premium restaurant in the city. I'm hoping we came here on an off night. We walked in around 530pm before the 4th of July events at the parkway we're going to kick off and it was dead so we immediately got seated. We scanned the QR code and found our drinks we wanted but the waitress came over and said she would be right back to take our order so we assumed we were supposed to wait and order with her instead of on the app. We waited about 10 minutes for her to come back and after she didn't we all tried to order on the app. It worked for 2 out of 5 people. DURING SIPS - completely different I went back during sips and all the tables/chairs were gone, there was no where to sit, and it was elbow room only. The majority of the crowd was about 21ish. Unfortunately, they needed a door guy for the bathrooms so people didn't have sex in them--not my scene :/ Also, someone had to monitor the bathrooms so people didn't have sex in them. Terrible. So let me start off by saying how terrible the service was on Saturday 11/19/22. I'm in my 20s and I wanted to have a good time after Christmas Village, so I planed to go to Uptown Beer garden with a friend afterwards and was treated horribly. I don't drink, but I still like to have a good time. I asked the waiter for one of their drinks but without alcohol. She explained to me that they are not able to make a non alcoholic drink. This was crazy to me because to make a mock-tail you just don't pour the alcohol in the drink. I proceeded to explain that I would pay the same price as I did not care because it was supposed to be for an experience and to have a good time. She then went on and proceeded to tell me that they were out of hot drinks, so I asked her if I could get a cold one without the alcohol. her answer was no and that they were out. At this point I was just like forget it but my friend asked her what drinks do you have that are non-alcoholic, and she said we have orange juice, and apple juice, and then went on with the basic sodas. She was incredibly rude and totally doesn't know what customer service is because she didn't even try to help me (even though they probably weren't even out of the drinks, she just didn't want to work). This makes me so mad because EVERY DRINK could have been made without being spiked. It's such a shame how rude and how quick this waitress was able to say no and just wanted her sift to be over. Yikes dude. I work at Penn Center and thought I would swing through for a quick drink after work. Hostess asks if I want to table or if I'm just gonna sit at the bar, I say bar. Turns out there are no actual seats at the bar, so I ask for a table. Hostess asks if I'm just ordering drinks, I say yes, she sends me to a high top near the bar. I order a drink, grab a hightop, and the same hostess immediately comes over and tells me that I can't sit there unless I'm ordering food. I remind her that she literally *just* told me I could sit there. She then moves me to an empty courtyard or says I can stand (??????). It's 4:30 on a Wednesday and 90% of the tables are empty.
