O'Reilly Auto Parts and their staff continue to impress me. Wanted to simply straighten out the steering wheel so I needed a steering wheel puller. Instead of trying to sell me one that they had in stock, they offered me an option to rent one. With a minimal deposit, it was used to accomplish my task and returned within 20 minutes. The deposit was refunded to my credit card and I saved money too. Also was looking for a specialty fluid and the sales gal knew where it was on the shelf. I came in to buy some parts and loan the ac vacuum pump. The young lady with long fake nails was unknowledgeable and not very courteous. I took the tool home an hour drive away. Hooked up the hoses and noticed the caps to seal the pump were both cracked. could not use the tool. what a waste of time compounded by the untrained girl. I'm writing this review as a comparison between Napa and O'reilly and will be posting it on both stores. I'm a gear head and have used both these stores extensively and the difference couldn't be bigger! This is coming from a white dude so it's clear I'm not getting any special treatment as a local or a cute girl! Also I used to work at a large auto part store so I not only seeing things from a customer perspective. Friendliness and helpfulness is probably the biggest defining factor. At Napa, several guys have gone above and beyond the requirements of professionalism. I've been amazed repeatedly at how helpful they are offering help and advice before I even ask. On the other hand, O'reilly's guys seem to hate their job and are just waiting to clock out. I haven't had any terrible experiences other than waiting forever in line but at the same time I've never had a remarkable experience either. The other huge factor is PHONES! As an auto parts store you gotta be on it with the phones. Sometimes I'm making a special trip from an hour away just to come get a part and I need to know if you have it in stock. Out of all the times I've called O'reilly, I think they've answered once. I've even had them pickup and then hang up several times just to make it stop ringing. WTH! Napa has never failed to answer the phone after several rings cause they know that's a vital part of business. So why do I still visit both stores? I will always choose Napa whenever possible but they don't stay open in the evening which is often when I want to stop in after work to grab a part. Also, O'reilly has a specialty tool lending program that is extremely helpful. I just wish Napa would offer this like every part store on the mainland does. Also, sometimes O'reilly's prices are too good to pass up if it's a part that doesn't require Napa quality. So basically, I wish I could never go anywhere but Napa but sometimes you gotta. read more

Went to get a car battery. Counter clerk said computer shows one in stock, sent someone to the back to get it. Waited at the counter about 15 minutes. Asked for an update, turns out the guy who went to the back had gone home, knowing I was at the counter waiting for the battery. Other times clerks just talking story, customers waiting. 2 stars because of convenient hours, and have had items in stock that I was looking for. read more

My husband needed a new battery for his truck and I called around in our area. After comparative shopping...Not only was O'Reilly's price better but the female customer service representative on the phone tells me that they can even install our battery if there is not a lot of people and not too complicated. Turns out it was an easy switch out. When my husband went to get the battery, he was so impressed with their knowledge and courteous manner that he calles and told me "Honey, we are not going anywhere else ever again for auto parts! As a novice in everything having to do with cars, my review is from a novice's standpoint. It seems like the selection of this place is pretty good. There is a huge back section with shelves of parts. I went in for supplies to wax and remove scratches from a car. As implied before, I have no idea what I'm doing or looking for when it comes to cars. I was hoping for some customer service, but it seemed that there were no guys to help me out. To get assistance, I had to stand in line with the people paying. Once I did receive help, it wasn't that helpful. I found what I needed, but no advice was given. Once I went up to pay, the cashier was really weird and was making comments about how expensive the stuff I was buying was and questioning if we were sure we wanted it. He didn't offer any alternative products or methods that we could have gotten instead to make it cheaper, just the borderline snide remarks. I am guessing that based on my experience, this place doesn't pride itself on customer service, but just having parts; they leave it to the customer to know what they want/need. I guess because I am so clueless when it comes to cars, I would be better off next time looking up what I need online and buying it from Amazon or something, since at least there is feedback on what works and what is the cheapest. read more

Horrible customer service except for a just a handful of their employees.. Have sold me wrong parts multiple times including fuel line, which is potentially really dangerous. I've rented broken equipment from them, and when telling them on return, they just say "oh". The local stores are much better and more helpful (ASC or Pahoa auto parts) read more

O'Reilly's in Hilo has outstanding help. The female employee's, Ivy and I don't the other women's names. Are the best hands down in Hilo looking up parts and taking the time to compare belts, and parts for custom applications. I'm always trying to look up and older car or tractor part and have found them to be the most patient and best with parts book in town. I alway's to spend my money at O'Reilly's. I went in this morning (1/2/16 at 10 AM) to get some oil and a filter. I was standing in line when another man entered the store. When the cashier asked to help the next customer, the man pushed me and cut in front of me and another customer. When I objected saying the man in front of me was here first, the guy cutting in line got in face asking if I like scrap. There were several people and cashiers that witnessed this. No one did anything. I was forced to leave the store without purchasing anything. I called the manager to report this and he mumbled about how he was sorry. All the cashiers had to do was inform customers to form a line. The whole situation would have been avoided. Never going back read more
