Date of visit: November 8, 2024 I ignored the Yelp reviews and came here because I could get the battery installed as I was expecting my existing battery to give up the ghost at any time. I don't necessarily regret coming here but I also would not recommend it. When I walked in, the store looked sad and tired. The woman behind the counter said, "Can I help you?" without even looking in my general direction that I honestly didn't think she could possibly be talking to me. Sadly, she was. Even sadder, she had a hard time finding my online order, despite it being directly behind her on the shelf with a piece of paper that had my name on it. A guy came and took over and reluctantly installed the battery. Meanwhile another customer kept coming over and asking him questions and he kept stopping to answer them. He also threw in some misogynistic comments about women calling him while he worked... I'm only going two stars instead of one because the whole ordeal only took twenty minutes and was hundreds of dollars cheaper than the dealership! read more

The worst of the worst. ENTIRE staff was on their F ing cell phone talking. The clerk punched in wrong year and make of car. Said part was $114. When I left I went to auto zone. Clerk went out to my car popped the hood and looked at light bulb housing. It was $19.00 and he installed it. O'reilly's people are WORTHLESS. read more

When I need car parts or automotive tools/supplies, O'Reilly tends to be the first store I go to. They usually have what I need, and they're priced well compared to similar stores. So when in Milwaukee troubleshooting my son's car, and I needed a tool - I headed to the closest O'Reilly. The store was in a good location - easy to find and get to. I was looking for an OBDII code reader/scanner. The fellow helping me didn't seem to know what I was asking for - first thinking I wanted him to read my codes for me (which they used to do before the pandemic). No - I wanted to buy a scanner for myself. He wasn't sure they had that, but after a bit, he realized they were hanging on the wall right behind him. Their two options were $100 or $80. Knowing I can do better online (sorry guys), I couldn't stomach overpaying that much. I left looking for better options. Now - I don't want to judge TOO much - those OBD scanners can sell up to $100 on Amazon.com, so maybe theirs was nice. But, I didn't want the fancy $100 unit... Fast forward an hour or so later - we figured out what was going on with the car and got it right. No tools or parts required (yay, me!). I had bought a starter and multi-meter from the Madison O'Reilly store. I asked about returning it if I didn't end up needing it. No problem, as long as I didn't actually install it. Cool. So, at this point, I have time to kill, so I return those items to this MKE store. An associate manager ended up helping me this time - returning the items with no qualms. Typically O'Reilly Auto lacks in the customer service department by quite a bit, being sub-par across the board depending on any location in Wisconsin. Glazed eyes and lethargy at the counter is relatively common compared to Advanced Auto, Autozone or Napa. I assume this is a management thing. But this Capitol location really takes the cake. I stood there as some dude checked his phone while five people wandered around behind the counter. Nobody said anything or aknowledged they had a customer for for at least a minute and a half. The one employee that was finally noticed me was like "uhhh........................." they had no idea what tools they rented out, how to pronounce the tool name, nor did they make the effort to check. I got this "please dont bother me" attitude so I just left. Its like if you found the most careless unhelpful people you could find and then employed them. Either pay these people more, find people that aren't careless, or fix the management FFS. How does this location sell anything or make a profit at all? read more

I was in need of replacing a light bulb on my car and they were happy to come outside and figure out what kind of bulb I needed. After their investigation they were able to figure out that the previous owner rigged in new lights. They spent roughly 30 min. on my light trying to at least get a normal working light in there. After figuring out it wasn't possible they were happy to return the normal light we were trying to replace and helped educate me on what I need to do get it all fixed up. Everyone was super friendly and super helpful. I will definitely be back again for their advice and help! They were educated and professional. read more

Being an owner of a used 2005 Ford Focus I need parts from time to time. Headlight burnt out, fuse for charger done-zo, wipers not so wipey... Enter O'Reilly. Who is this O'Reilly anyway? Going to Walmart for new wiper blades proved fruitless Wednesday, quickly discovering that after looking up the size blades I needed, they were of course completely out of stock. Luckily I knew O'Reilly Auto Parts was just across the street. Before the door closed behind me not one but two salesmen asked if I needed help. Coming from Walmart, I was shocked by the instant greeting and service. Never leaving the counter, my salesman looked up the size which I needed, discovering they carried four different brands. He explained the quality of each and pricing, then gave me his recommendation. I was overwhelmed from the usual "on your own at Walmart," I forgot to ask him his name. He was terrific and even more amazing when he said, "Now let's put them on," asking me where I was parked. Outstanding! read more

It was dirty, like uncomfortable dirty in here.We could find NO ONE that could assist us in finding the part we needed, not to mention no one asked. We waited in a line that took about 15 minutes because they only had two staff members on and the line was about 10 people long. Not pleased. read more

Terrible service. Went in to have a check engine light checked out and knew they would hook it up and give me the code. The worker couldn't find the OBD reader and another coworker told him that the store manager had brought it home. I asked if he'd be coming back, and the workers said they didn't know. I asked to call the manager and they refused. The worker promptly went outside to smoke a cigarette without offering any additional help. Guess I'll spend my money elsewhere. read more

This place has quickly become my auto parts go-to in MKE. I don't even live in Riverwest/on the east side anymore, yet I continue to make the trek to O'Reilly's on Capitol for a number of reasons. Rather than list a slew of reasons as to why this place rules, however, I'm going to tell you a little story of a cold weekend, a Mazda, and a five-year old battery. Yesterday: 1. wake up, make coffee, check email, think about going to the gym 2. work for awhile, keep thinking about the gym 3. decide that I should scrape the layer of ice off my car because I haven't driven it in three days and I guess I'm going to go to the gym or whatever 4. boyfriend is super awesome, so he offers to scrape my car off for me... comes back upstairs to let me know that the car isn't turning over and won't start. sadface. 5. call dad, quickly confirm the battery is dead 6. boyfriend is awesome so he secures jumper cables from his best friend, who comes over after work to help. we all jump my mazda, it starts, it's great. 7. meanwhile, i'm calling all over town asking about batteries and make/model and if they can help me put the battery in the car. 8. super awesome guy whose name starts with an E at O'Reilly lets me know that not only do they have two options for batteries, but also that he can install it for me. 9. HE INSTALLS IT FOR FREE IN TEN DEGREE WEATHER WITH NO GLOVES (i'm helping because i'm holding my maglite but i'm not that much help, really.) 10. five-star service, period read more

Sadly this auto parts place did not have the windshield wiper blades I was looking for, but the reason they're 4 stars is literally right from my boyfriend and I walking through the door, we were asked what we could be helped with. For being an auto parts store it was pretty clean, and definitely well organized. So, sadly they didn't have the blades I was looking for, but the experience was decent all the same. :) read more

I don't like auto shops, as they usually are indifferent or straight up rude. Guys were talkitive and actually were into cars which was a nice change of pace, but they've given me the wrong part on two occasions now. Best course of action is to have what you need replaced in hand, and they'll help you out, otherwise you might need to come back read more

They lost or stole my battery that was in for testing. Manager won't honor my claim. The battery was under warranty. When I dropped it off I asked the employee if I needed a claim ticket. He said no, don't worry that he'll call me, my number was on the battery. He never called. Now manager says that I should have gotten a claim ticket. I agree, I should have gotten a claim ticket. Now I am out $$$ and have no battery. Geez! read more

I called ahead To see how to remove paint transfer from the side of my car. It was very busy at the counter and waited 10 minutes in line. Once at the counter, the person asked me to pull my car up closer (another 10 feet) so he could come out and look at it. I thought this was ridiculous but I did it anyway. When I came back I had to stand in line again for another 10 minutes and was helped by another individual. This person had no clue what to offer me and I walked out empty-handed. There's a NAPA parts store very close to this one. Guess where I'm going from now on? read more
