Want to like this spot but didn't have a great experience. For one the system is a bit confusing. You order at the counter and can separately order cocktails at the bar. For seating, it seems you are encouraged to bus your own table, but it isn't clear so most people don't. So we (and multiple other groups) ended up waiting for a table to open up and then cleared the dishes/glasses ourselves. Not a big deal but was just not the most welcoming system. Additionally, our entrees came out about 15 minutes apart, which wasn't ideal. We would have liked to order a couple more beers, but pretty sure we would have needed to enter the main line again to order those. We arrived around 6:45 on a Saturday and the pizza was sold out. Not sure if this is typical, but it was a bummer, especially since the menu isn't particularly large in the first place. The Caesar salad was great. Really good. And the grinder was quite good but not exceptional. For about $80 for 2 beers, a salad+chicken, and the grinder, I can't say it's worth the price. I'd been seeing Staplehouse all over Instagram and hearing about their Michelin Guide recognition, so I was excited to finally give it a try. As somebody who genuinely loves food and especially Italian sandwiches, I ordered the Italian Grinder for pickup. Now, a little context. I'm a newer parent, and that day I was dressed casually sweats, hoodie, hat, just running around handling life. Nothing crazy. I only mention that because when I went in to pick up my order, the interaction left me uncomfortable. Two employees greeted me, and after I confirmed my name for the pickup, one of them held onto the bag tightly and asked me again if I was sure the order was mine, joking about making sure I wasn't stealing it. I laughed it off in the moment, but honestly, I couldn't fully tell if it was meant as a joke or not. And to be fair, I don't want to assume malicious intent or act like I know what was in that person's heart. But I also have to be honest about how it felt. I genuinely don't believe that same joke or comment would've been made to somebody who looked less "threatening," older, or dressed differently than me. Whether intentional or unconscious, moments like that stick with people. I'm a father, a dancer, a creative, and somebody who tries to greet people warmly and respectfully wherever I go. So walking out of there, I just felt a little judged instead of welcomed. The sandwich itself? Solid. Definitely good food. I'd give the grinder a 4 out of 5. But food is also tied to experience, and unfortunately the interaction took away from it for me. I don't think I'll be going back, but I do hope this feedback is received with understanding and not defensiveness, because perception and hospitality matter too. read more

We came here for lunch as we were in the area. There were some street parking spots available! The from seemed like a bar seating, and you order at the counter towards the back. There was also an open kitchen concept which was very cool. The service a was decent, not the friendliest in my opinion, especially for having a weird set up. We ultimately ordered a grinder sandwich, margherita pizza and a chicken sausage pizza. We waited quite a while for our food. The pizzas came first. I enjoyed the margherita pizza as it was very saucy! The crust was also very chewy and had a nice char. The chicken sausage pizza was oky, I thought the cheese was too overpowering. Honestly, I really did not enjoy the grinder sandwich. There was barely any meat/ham and was 70% vegetables. Also not sure what salad was in it but there was a huge seed the size of a penny in it and it was so hard, I almost broke my tooth biting into the sandwich. Went to staplehouse for lunch to try the grinder sandwich, but ended up trying the pizza as well. We went on a Saturday and street parking was free. We ordered the grinder sandwich for $23 and a pesto and Jamon (ham) pizza for $35. The food came out within 15 minutes. The grinder sandwich was tasty! There were many flavors and textures. Overall, it had a strong garlic/pesto saucy flavor to me. I liked the crunch of the pickled carrots. It's a good sandwich for sure if you're a sandwich lover. The pizza we picked had no cheese layer or red sauce. It was smoked burrata with Jamon ham, and arugula with balsamic vinegrette on top, so it almost felt like a salad on top of the pizza. The pizza dough was thin and delicious, but they somehow get the crust thick and chewy. The flavor again was very pesto and balsamic vinegarette driven. It was well made and the arugula was very crunchy/fresh, but it's a personal size pizza for a steep price. Overall, we thought that the food was well made and good, but i don't see myself going out if my way to come here for a sandwich or pizza. One thing that surprised us was that they charge a 4% employee health insurance to their customers for their employees. It wasn't disclosed in advance, so we were surprised when we saw it on our receipt. I'm sharing just in case anyone has a budget to follow, as it is a surprise charge. This place is mainly self service, so you can get your own water and napkins. There's limited seating inside and an outdoor patio. It's casual inside with lots of plants and wine. One of my favorite restaurants in ATL now! We came here for an early dinner with friends on a Friday afternoon. It was not crowded at all (so a great place for an afternoon drink/meal)! We got the margherita pizza, the autumn salad, and a small charcuterie board. We also got drinks. Everything was EXCELLENT. Neapolitan-style pizza, specifically margherita, is one of my favorite foods. This one was one of the best I've ever had - the crust was perfectly chewy. Their back patio is awesome. Interesting dining experience! I think the restaurant/market, is a great concept, but the food prices are a bit much. I was a bit shocked at the price of the food when ordering. My family each ordered a pizza, while I ordered the hot chicken sandwich. The sandwich was fire! I don't typically indulge in chicken sandwiches, but I didn't really get excited by any other menu items. I was a bit disappointed by the fact the sandwich was $19, and it didn't come with a side item. That's highway robbery! Anyhow, I'm sure the locals in the area love this cute, hip restaurant, as it offers a chill vibe, good food and it has a Michelin star. The pizzas looked really good, but again, they were pricey and a bit small. The service was pretty good, the cashier was friendly and patient. How someone gives this place lower than a five star is beyond me. As a fashion designer and filmmaker who moonlights as a chef (bread, sandwiches, sushi and pasta are my thing) this place left me in awe for the Italian grinder. So good I got two to go. Kara (sp, was a gem to meet) and the flavor profile in this sandwich gave me the perfect food journey of the pickled veggies, cheese some melted and not, and the flawless texture of bread rise to meat ratio, "Jesus, son of Mary it was divine" ...so good I got two to go, one for my friend to share with his wife, and one to share with my wife. This review is for lunch. At some point we have to have a conversation about how gentrification is actually quite nonsensical. The hosts were very friendly/personable and the space itself is very inviting, but I would never go back simply based on price: The subs are $21 (no sides) and are a 5/10 at best, despite the higher quality/unconventional ingredients (that did not enhance the taste). I always thought the food at Staplehouse was beyond my level of food appreciation. When I saw they had opened a market on Instagram, I felt like it was the perfect opportunity to try their food on a lower key level. And I did not regret! The market is split into a few sections, but I generally stick to the bakery and pastry display case and top it off with a coffee or a ginger ale. I do like that the heated covered patio is now open for dine-in and pups ARE allowed (well, at least I've brought my pup and they haven't said no lol) I've tried quite a few items now, including the chocolate non bons, a citrus tart, empanadas (steak & potato, cheesy onion), the focaccia, pork belly brioche, and beef cheek pie. All of the pastries are buttery, flakey and super meaty and flavorful. The meat filled pastries are heavier due to the buttery pastry but I need to try some of their menu items that aren't "pre-made" and "heated up" and have a true dine-in experience. What a fun place to come when the weather is nice! They only have outdoor seating in the back. One portion is covered, so you could still eat in if the weather wasn't perfect. We came in on Sunday around 5pm. All the pizza was sold out sadly. We ordered the meatball hero, the broth and the potato macaire. You order drinks at the bar. They give you a number and they deliver the food to you when you find yourself a table. The food came out quickly. The meatball sub was incredible! It was big enough for us to split. I was craving a Banh mi (not Bahn mi)...as spelled in the menu. Someone shared a photo of their sandwich so I was eager to get one; I really love headcheese but I didn't get any in my sandwich, all I had was a bunch of pate and with some radish, cucumbers, and cilantro. By the way, the radish should be pickled but it was just plain chopped raddish. The bread was excellent but the whole sandwich was terrible. There was no meat or jalapeno, though menu mentioned Pork terrine and jalapeno, the pate tasted sour and all of that for $21. You can get the traditional Vietnamese sandwich for $5 or $6...I didn't mind paying as long it was excellent. We were a party of 2 at 8:45 pm on Friday, March 6th. It's pretty casual. We were fine in jeans and a top, or jeans and a collared shirt. As the host walked us to the table, we stopped at the kitchen for our first bite. That was a nice touch! The staff explained every dish and beverage as it was served. They did their best, but we really didn't understand most of what they said. It's possible that we're just not sophisticated enough, in terms of our palettes and our knowledge of food and alcohol. It was $105 per person for the food tasting menu, and $85 per person for the beverage pairing. (The beverage pairing included beer, wine, sake, kombucha.) Add in tax and tip, and it came out to just under $500 for 2 people. For that much money, we expected to eat the best meal of our lives, and it just wasn't. For that reason, we probably won't be back. My friends have been telling me amazing things about Staplehouse. I finally decided to try their multi-course tasting menu for my boyfriend's birthday. This experience is offered Tuesday to Saturday evenings and requires a prepaid reservation for parties of 2-4, costing $105 per person. When you pay online, you will also have to pay for tax and a 20% tip (Hospitality Charge). Staplehouse opens their reservation online for the next month on the second Friday of every month at 12pm. When I tried to make a reservation exactly at 12pm when reservations were released, many of the prime dinner times on weekends were quickly taken. I ended up booking a reservation for Tuesday. Upon walking into the restaurant, I didn't really know what to expect. They sat us down and gave us a drink menu without explanation of what is to come. After ordering a glass of wine, the waiter asks if we are ready for dinner to get started. One by one, they brought each of the tasting menu dishes to our table with explanation of what the dish was. At the end of our meal, we were provided with with the menu of the night. During our tasting menu dishes, I found all the dishes very creative and unexpected. We started off with a crispy roll that had apples and caramelized yeast. Our second course was a rare ribeye, mixed with cashews, topped with thinly sliced turnip. My favorite dishes of the night were the crab, cobia, grandma Lillian's potato bread (with thyme butter), kombucha, and ginger cake dessert. A few of the dishes ended up being too salty, like the assorted mushroom with celery cream and cabbage. I really liked that all of the dishes had lots of protein and vegetables. This way we didn't fill up on carbohydrates, especially since there were a lot of dishes. My daughter purchased a gift certificate for us to come try their tasting menu. Wow, what an experience. The restaurant is in the old fourth ward; so was quite a drive for us, but this was such a unique experience, we are going to have to find a way to be in the area more. We did the traditional tasting menu and every single bite was amazing. Now next time, I will do the selected courses as it ended up being just way too much food for me...but you have to try the full experience at least once :). I have included pictures, and the menu card picture since each course is extremely detailed. The presentation of each plate is absolutely stunning. The service was absolutely fantastic. The entire meal was $350, so this is a budget buster, but it's worth every penny. We took a Lyft- so much cheaper than getting a DUI right? Wow what an amazing meal. It was like 3 hours long and worth every moment! I love that all the proceeds go to The Giving Tree so I really feel like I'm doing good while eating some of the best tasting food i've ever had. The meal felt like 100 courses, but was realistically only like 10. They were all small portions, like 1-3 bites each, but by the end I was feeling stuffed. The atmosphere was super cute as well. I've heard now during Covid they're seating people outside on the patio, which is absolutely darling! It's a preset menu, with about 10 or so courses. Service is excellent and they explain everything in it, which has a wide variety of ingredients. The food is excellent. The menu is constantly rotating and you don't actually choose anything (just alert them if you have food allergies), so I won't waste time writing about everything we got. Staplehouse market is now open, and it's super cute! Perfect place for a more casual date spot for a small bite or dessert - you can buy a bottle of wine/beer or get a drink from the bar, and order some tasty snacks and eat out on the socially distanced back patio. We wanted to check out the market so we strolled here for a light brunch. Ordered the crispy farm egg mushroom grain bowl and it was SO good. Also had a very delicious and beautiful citrus tart. And obviously had to try the bon bons. Everything was fantastic, and I look forward to returning to support such a charitable cause. Staplehouse proceeds go to the Giving Kitchen, which offers assistance to the Atlanta restaurant community suffering unexpected hardship. The significant other really out did himself. :) Make sure to make your reservations just as the window for appts opens up bc he said the slots go super quickly. If you order 4 to 5 dishes, this would be a good shareable amt bt two people: * Beef: My rec! The beef is raw though so order with caution. The golden beets wrapped around the tender beef was really good. The mushroom shoyu added a nice touch to this delectable dish. * Bay scallops: They're the miniature kind, but just as tasty. The walnut and satsuma were interesting additions. Satsuma is seaweed btw. :) There were def a good variety of colors, tastes, and textures with this choice. * Swordfish: The fish was under seasoned imo, but I suppose you can't add too much flavors since the dish itself had lots of textures and flavors. The African butternut went well with the swordfish along with the two diff sauces. I would say this is the most filling entree -- even though it barely filled the huge plate. * Chicken sausage: My least favorite but still good. I just thought the sausage had a bit of a sodium kick compared to the other dishes. The buckshorn was interesting as it added a semi bitter ish taste to the dish. Buckshorn is the green plant you see in my pic. The drip coffee here was pretty good (as the coffee snob fiance of mine commented). Parking is valet only unless you want to find street parking yourself... Though the valet guy did just park our car across the lot at the mom n pop garage looking building. And last but not least, I suppose if you went here for a bday or anniversary, they will give you a little notebook with the date you visited the restaurant. I really want to like this place. Very creative concepts with food and some dishes were really great. There are some points of laziness that are difficult to come to terms with. We had the pea salad which was very tasty but bizarre as a concept. One of our favorite dishes until we came across a long gangly hair. I think it was mixed up in the massive amount of herbs in the dish but that's no good. The meat pie was ok. It tasted a little weird and a bit dry. Problem is the amount of egg shell busted in the crust. Huge lack of care. The liver plate was really good! The ceasar salad was outstanding and they have a great wine selection. Received a wedding anniversary gift card to Staplehouse and went there once for some drinks pre-pandemic. Was fine. Still had a good amount of money on the gift card and went back to try and have dinner there and Management said they are no longer accepting the pre-pandemic gift cards. I asked whether that was technically legal - as I don't believe it is - and they said 'well we have it mentioned on our website that we're no longer accepting them' and they're 'still figuring it out' (more than two years later). They also said that the gift card liability is 'a good amount more' than $10k so we're definitely not the only ones being screwed over by the owners. Millionaires will run a 'down to earth', 'farm to table' $$$$ restaurant for the elite but not let you use the money already handed over in making it successful. Any attorneys out there? read more

Put on your running shoes and run, do not walk, to Staplehouse. Today's lunch was one of the most sensational meals I've ever had. Pork tacos with salsa macha one a fresh made tortilla was awesome. 4 tacos was a nice portion and when I say fresh tortilla, I mean I watched the cook crank the masa through the press and place it on the griddle. Wow! The burrata salad was phenomenal and I'm quite full four hours later. Chef Ryan Smith is a great person and I'm a huge fan. Hours are limited so check in advance, but bring a friend (or many) and enjoy a fantastic meal. read more
