Today I had a appointment at the Oahu Dermatology located in the Queens POB II My PCP recommended this place . I made an appointment with Dr.Summer Chong . She was very friendly and informative and let me know everything that I needed to know . I felt very comfortable as soon I arrived from the receptionist to the nurses assistant. What's also wonderful this office is located on the ground floor suite #109 . At Oahu Dermatology there's 3 doctors that share the office . So if you're looking for a dermatologist I would highly recommend Dr.Summer Chong. Very clean office and service is very prompt. I and my 2 daughters have been seeing Dr Carla Nip-Sakamoto for years! Can't believe I haven't written a review all this time! Who would think to Yelp a doctor? Only retail and restaurants! Carla is very nice, friendly and personable! No matter how busy she is, she always takes the time to answer questions or concerns! She is always very thorough in her examination and patient in explaining what she is looking at! She offers excellent care and even when I had a concern before my recent vacation, she took the time to contact me. She really put me at ease with so much talk lately about melanoma and skin cancer! Quality of service is decent besides Dr Miki's general vibe. I've been coming here for a while and every time i walk out feeling as though I've somehow personally offended her. I do not feel comfortable conversing with a woman who responds to my questions with condescension so how could i possibly want to talk to her about my intimate health issues. This review is based on a first appointment with Dr. Garcia. Upon arrival, staff were very diligent in following COVID-safety protocols. Check-in was timely, smooth and efficient. Meeting with Dr. Garcia was really nice because she provided education and also gave me several options, without pushing me towards one or another. She also provided me a baggie of samples to try. I saw Dr Miki Garcia a year ago & she was very attentive, and thorough & took the time to take a sample of my skin for a biopsy. I felt confident that she was concerned & was doing a detailed & complete evaluation. This year I made an appointment using my V.A. coverage which was granted 2 me for my service to my country from 1959 to 1962 with several 60-day trips 2 Vietnam. There was a great deal of confusion in their office as to if Dr. Garcia would see me again since I was not using Humana Coverage but The V. A. as previously mentioned. This time she was very curt and quick with the exam and made a few freezes on my arms and reluctantly attempted to try and remove a lump on the back of my left hand. After lancing the lump and squeezing it she said it was too deep and had her assistant put a bandaid on it. In parting, she said that she may not take me under the V.A. next year and I said yea the VA doesn't pay as well to which she replied no it's the paperwork. I thought, what a B, it's the same thing!!. In my 84 Yrs. I have seen a lot of 1st class, highly rated surgeons and specialists and a lot of them in the past few years, and only a few like Miki Garcia do not appreciate what Veterans have done for our country and don't want to treat our medical needs in our later years. I came to Oahu Dermatology to seek treatment from Dr. Miki Garcia through a recommendation from a friend (who I found out, had probably never gotten treatment before!). This review is more for the customer service than the doctor but the whole experience is important. My first visit was a consult so I made an appointment - at that time, I wasn't told that they had a promo where you get 10% if you pay upfront for 3 sessions. I made an appointment and went back for the first session, got the treatment. After getting my face numbed, I waited close to an hour before the doctor saw me. I learned later that numbing usually only takes 30 min. And then upon paying, I was casually asked if I wanted to pay close to $1K upfront to enjoy the promo by a nurse who seemed incompetent and disinterested in trying to figure out how to work with the customer. Well, my answer is no, because I budget my spending? It would have been nice to know during the first visit when I was getting my consultation?! Anyway, when I went to the cashier to pay, another nurse said she would check with the doctor and give me a call back to see if I could still qualify when I came back for my second treatment session. There was no call-back or follow-up. A couple of days before my second treatment appointment, I received 3 reminder phone calls (about 10-15 minutes from each other and from different people) about my appointment. Total overkill and shows lack of coordination. On the first call, I asked if they managed to find out whether I could still qualify, the administrator said she had to find out - and to her credit, she did call back to let me know. Fast forward to my second treatment, I had to go back to the office after and specifically asked if they would provide cream to mask the redness if I needed it after. The nurse (who helped me with my numbing) was pretty nice and said yes; she said they could provide some tinted sunscreen. This time, numbing only took 30 min and I got to see the doctor. After the treatment, I asked for the tinted sunscreen and the girl who was doing my payment (I believe it was the same incompetent one from my session before) told me I had to buy tinted sunscreen if I needed some. I asked if they had samples and she said yes. Like, why are you asking me to buy if you could give me a sample?! FYI - the Dr. used another method (freeze) this time which removed a portion of skin that was raised but this technique made the other spot (which was flat) darker after the treatment?! Anyway, I went back for my third treatment session today. I waited for 30 minutes only to have a nurse come tell me that the IPL machine might be broken and she is not sure if I could get the treatment. She was pretty nice and offered to have the doctor look to see if I needed any "other treatment" but I was so done with this place. Completely wasted my time and my Uber rides back and forth. One thing I learned too is that I would be looking for another clinic that have their own IPL machine so that I don't have to work around the schedule of the machine availability in the clinic! read more

I enjoyed my communication with the receptionist who was able to squeeze me in that day because of a cancellation. I printed and filled out the new patient forms from their website then drove there. My wait upon arrival was apx 10 minutes then maybe another minute in my waiting room. I explained my reason for today's visit that we did a bunch of back and forth to make sure she understood. She made a recommendation that I was hesitant but she reassured me. I am now happy that she did cause the prescribed cream worked wonders! I paid a $25.00 copay and later I got a mailed a bill for $350 and all I had was a 5 minute visit with Dr. Sasaki and she just looked at my face no treatments were done. I have HMSA insurance and I never had a 300 dollar bill to see any provider; the greed is just unreal. I will go back to my other dermatologist Dr. Ryan Sato because I never got charged this much before and I cant afford that for any follow up visits. I was very concerned about a skin condition that rapidly developed and made an appointment with my dermatologist Dr. Carla Nip-Sakamoto. The front office informed me that as a long time patient of Dr. Nip-Sakamoto I would be passed off and seen by someone else - A Dr. Miki Garcia. Dr. Garcia made me feel as if the practice is focusing more on higher income generating cosmetic and aesthetic procedures rather than addressing a patient's medical condition covered by insurance in order for the practice to survive. Sadly, genuine concern for the patient's well being is no longer a factor in retaining patient loyalty, apparently a very deep pocket makes a difference on how you're treated. read more

My visit with Garcia is by far, THE worst experience with someone who holds an MD. Never in my entire life growing up on Oahu have I experienced such unwelcoming, condescending, indifferent behavior from a medical professional. Appointment lasted at most 5 minutes and left the office with the same concerns I had walking into the office. Spare yourself from having to go see a so called "derm" that does not care about you. Didnt feel comfortable here. I came one hour early for my appointment and they made me fill out paperwork two times, lack of organization. The assistant was not friendly. This negative review is for the front desk staff, because their disorganization makes me not want to continue being a patient of this office. I first visited Dr. Garcia on 5/9. The front desk staff did not know the price of the product Dr. Garcia prescribed, and suggested I can just be charged later on. I did not feel comfortable buying something without knowing the price, so they said they'd call me later that day with the price. By 5/12, I called to follow up because they'd never called me back. I gave them my credit card information and agreed to pay to ship the item to my home. By 5/22, the product had not arrived. I called the office on 5/22, 5/23, and 5/24 and only received a call-back on 5/24, when I was already in the parking lot of the doctor's office to come in person to understand what was going on. They apologized after I expressed how frustrated I was, but I really do not appreciate having so much of my time wasted! read more

I made an appointment with them. The wait was not too long and the staff was nice. The doctor I saw took a small knife to scrape a few samples of the affected part of my skin onto a small glass and checked it under the microscope. She came back to tell me it's nothing and it's just dried skin. Then I went to check out and HOLY SHIT the charge was $140 with PPO insurance. Like WTF!
