I was referred to Dr. Chong by my family doctor. During scheduling and at check-in, I asked whether removing skin tags on my face would be covered under my dermatology visit. I was not informed that this procedure would not be covered by insurance. When I checked out, I was shocked to see an additional charge of over $300 out of pocket. I expressed my concern and asked to speak with the dermatologist. Dr. Chong handled the situation professionally and agreed to dismiss the charge, acknowledging that her staff had not clearly communicated the insurance details in advance. I've seen all the amazing reviews about Doctor Summer Chong and decided to see her. I was kind of in a scary situation because I had inflamed cyst. When getting checked up about my symptoms she is patient and understanding. We had to proceed with draining the cyst and then doing the follow up. I'll be completely honest draining the cyst was an uncomfortable feeling, but it was fast! If you need to come for any of your skin needs, I would recommend Doctor Summer Chong! Best dermatologist in town! I have never seen any Doctor so far who can take time and explain everything. Dr Chong genuinely cares and takes time to sit with you and make you understand. Good doctor that unfortunately cares more about collecting money than her patients. Frequent scheduling mishaps made this office frustrating but the failures of the office staff to get pre-approval for procedures that resulted in me having to pay out-of-pocket for my treatment was the final straw. Even me phoning my insurance from their office and having the insurance company verify that it was a covered service and that I should only have to pay the co-pay did not change their mandate. read more

#26 for 2021 I asked my families and friends via social media for recommendations of top quality dermatologists on O'ahu. I ended up with a list of six names. This was by far the only office that exceeded all of my expectations. 1) Accept new patients with valid medical insurance. 2) Offer Saturday appointments. 3) Least amount of wait time before and during pandemic. Booked 2 months out to same week. 4) Convenient parking and stamp validation. 5) Dr. Chong and Nurse, Dr. Takitani in my honest and objective perspective are attentive, offers professional and thorough review, address the root of the problems, determine if concerns are related or not related, offer options of original and generic medicines, and post patient care. Elated to know that one of my several concerns completely healed within two to three weeks of my first visit. Another concern is still a work in progress after a week of healing; however, I notice my skin will resume to normal. What I appreciate most about Dr. Chong's expertise is she informs me about past, present, and future outcomes. I can make informed decisions, well aware and accept that there are some concerns that will stay with me for life, embrace and address changes daily, and continue to live life to the fullest. read more

This was my first initial visit with Dr. Chong and I was very pleased with her and her staff. I had arrived early and surprisingly was able to see Dr. Chong before my scheduled appointment. Dr. Chong is very nice and understanding. Due to my hearing loss she accommodated me by removing her face mask so that I could read her lips. Thank you, Dr. Chong. I was concerned about couple red spots that looked concerning and wanted to make sure it was not skin cancer. She did a full body check up and I was relieved to find out those spots were not skin cancer and was skin irritation and inflammation from using expired ointment and old bandages on the area which made the areas irritated and infected. She prescribed an antibiotic topical ointment which helped clear the inflammation area right away. I am so happy that I saw Dr. Chong and will be seeing her for my next annual full body check up. read more

I've been been going to Dr. Chong for cosmetic stuff since about 2020 and I don't know why I didn't make a review from that earlier because she's absolutely amazing. She really listens, is VERY skilled and she has a very light and conservative touch which is extremely important to me, and she's always done flawless work to keep me feeling my most beautiful, while staying looking just like myself. Anyway, this past week, my body out of nowhere had some insane sort of allergic or immune reaction and I woke up covered in hives to a point that I've never seen on myself or anyone else. It was absolutely terrifying. I had three nights of no sleep due to the extreme itch, and both the urgent care and emergency room doctors did not do anything to help me and made me feel more or less dismissed even though it was definitely quite severe. I wish it had dawned on me sooner in my state of shock to call Dr. Chong, but as soon as I reached out to her, she squeezed me in the very same day and gave me such compassionate, EFFECTIVE treatment that I slept nine hours at first night and woke up with my hives 90% gone. Now 48 hours later they're like 95% gone if not completely cleared up. I don't even have words to express how grateful I am to her and her wonderful staff. read more

I made an appointment at least a month ago and provided my insurance contact information at that time. I arrived at the office on-time today and was shortly told that the Dr. had not agreed to be part of the insurance program and that I would have to pay for my care. I left. A month is enough time to prepare and I was not given notice that there was an insurance problem. A good part of my afternoon was wasted due to the front-office ineptitude. I asked them: If I fail to cancel an appointment before 24 hours prior to the appointment I will need to pay for the appointment, correct ? The receptionist said yes . . . . I then asked her would her office pay me for their error and wasting my time ? No answer. read more

Ive been wanting to try a treatment for my acne scarring and large pores for a while now. I've researched many different methods from different types of lasering to microneedling. After a friend recommended Dr. Chong, I decided to make an appointment for a microneedling consultation. The consultation was quick- took about 10 minutes and I scheduled my 3 full face microneedling sessions the same day. The consultation itself cost $75, but you're able to use that toward your treatment. At the time that I purchased, they offered a package of 3 microneedling sessions or more for 10% off. I had my first microneedling tx done a month later. Arrived an hour earlier because they wash and use topical numbing cream on your face and let it sit for 45 minutes to an hour. The needling process itself took about 20 minutes or so. Not gonna lie, some areas were still pretty painful..like my temples, nose, forehead. After Dr. Chong finished, the nurse washed my face again and put on serums. My face was very red after, but of course it was to be expected. The healing wasn't horrible. I was super red and looked a bit bruised in some areas for a few days. By the fourth day, it just looked like sunburn. I had no pain at all after the procedure, just looked a bit scary lol. I used the Sebuwash (purchased from Dr. Chongs office) for 10 days after to prevent any infection since I just had a billion tiny needle punctures in my skin. It's been over a month so far and I haven't been back for my next two sessions yet because of the COVID virus. So far, my pores do appear smaller and hoping the next two sessions that I have will help to diminish the appearance of my old acne scars. read more

I had gone in to receive laser treatment and she had talked me through each step and what specifically was happening. I had always been afraid to do laser treatment as it had always seemed very painful, however it was a relief to experience a manageable cold sensation that only took a couple minutes to do. Doctor Summer Chong is a doctor, that anyone would be lucky to have. She is extremely thorough and knowledgeable. I had a small bump on the back of my ear and she detected that it was basil cell cancer. She immediately referred me to MOHS Surgery to have it removed. If it had not been for Doctor Chong's thoroughness, the cancer could have easily been overlooked and metastasized. I am over the moon with my results! Dr. Summer Chong is a magician that can do amazing work. From my consultation to the procedure I felt welcomed, comfortable and confidence that I came to the right place. I recently visited Dr. Chong because of acne I've been dealing with for over 15 years! I've went to other doctors, tried so many regimens, spent hundreds of dollars and nothing seemed to work. Dr. Chong prescribed me a couple of things to try and told me to come back to follow up on my progress. I am very impressed. I had a flare-up of acne in two painful locations, and messaged Dr. Chong through Yelp to take me as a new patient. She messaged me back and I got an appointment for the very next day. I was a little late due to traffic, but I needed to be there early to fill out forms. I quickly filled them out when I got there, and I was taken to the exam room where I could explain to the nurse in more detail where my problems were located. She then transferred my information efficiently into the computer so I could see that the correct anatomical spots where marked. I didn't wait long at all. Shortly after, Dr. Chong came in and looked at my problem areas. She was friendly, concise, attentive, and knowledgeable. I received 3 steroid injections like I had requested, since 2 months of antibiotics from my previous doctor did not help it to thoroughly go away. Prior topical gels were also irritating/drying my skin. Dr. Chong was open to my requests to try different approaches to treatment, since what I had been on for years already were not really lessening their occurrence. It would alleviate some of the inflammation and pain, but it wouldn't decrease the number of times and quantities where I broke out with crops of cystic acne. I was surprised by how cooperative Dr. Chong was. I assumed that since some of my lesions were already surfaced and oozing/draining (after months of having them), that she would just leave those alone to continue to heal. But she told me that she could help them move along further and I agreed because I could do without the significant amount of pain that they were still causing. She comfortably manually drained one lesion herself and it did not hurt one bit. Now it's like it wasn't even there. Dr. Chong addressed all of my concerns. She looked at everything that I had to show her. She even took scrapings from my skin to look under a microscope. Dr. Chong is well-informed of stages of diseases and knows how to act quickly. In my situation, waiting to heal on my own would be detrimental by causing more damage along the way. If I waited-out my condition, since it is autoimmune-related, I would have had more scarring and the condition would have tunneled beneath my skin to form permanent tracts where these cysts could emerge more vigorously. Leaving was quick too. The waiting room was at full capacity by then. Everyone else must've just got out of that traffic that I was in. There is a sign on the exit door to check-out before leaving. I went to the counter, paid for my office visit copay, and left. Since I saw how popular that office is, when I got home, I made sure to call right away and make my follow-up appointment to get the day and time that works for me. One more thing, I've been wanting to try a medication (it's not new, it's been around for decades) that my former dermatologist dismissed when I asked for it. Dr. Chong agreed to let me try it as long as my blood pressure was normal, and that I avoid high-potassium foods such as bananas and avocado. My blood pressure reading was normal, and now I will begin a 2-month trial of the medication. Everything that happened today was more than I ever got after years of being with my former dermatologist. read more

Dr. Chong is amazing!! I've been searching for a Dr. who can understand and relate to the stresses that can occur with a female of my age. Dr. Chong not only put me on a regime to get my outbreaks under control, but she also guided to a daily regime suited for me. We had a trial and error phase, but she was consistent with follow up and adjusting to needs of MY skin. She is very educated with the products and medicines she recommends and is very thorough with directions that not only treat my areas of concern, but also aide in progressive maintenance. We were 10mins early to our appointment, and were brought in to the operating room to have numbing cream applied. We were told that the doctor would enter in about 20-30 minutes, at which point the time was 9:50am. However, we experienced extremely unprofessional service and were not tended to for over 1hr 10minutes, where neither the doctor nor the nurses even bothered to check on us. The appointment had been run-over for more than an hour with no indication being brought up or apology presented. It was definitely an extremely unpleasant experience. read more
