I was craving Hawaiian bbq beef and decided to try this place out. I was really hungry and went during dinner time. There weren't that many people and my food came out really fast. When I opened the container, they gave a generous portion of food and I definitely had leftovers after being so hungry. I thought the beef, veggies, rice and mac were pretty good and flavorful. The chicken katsu was delightfully crunchy and perfectly cooked. The katsu sauce was a little weird for me but, the teriyaki made up for it. The rice was, rice. Lol. We did see several food delivery people pick up orders while we were there. The first bite I had was the salad. It was part of the lunch special. The dressing is citrus and was pleasant. The spicy grilled fish was amazing. Perfectly grilled with just a touch of spice. I really hope this stays on the menu. The bbq is marinated and grilled. The marinated flavors go so well with the teriyaki sauce. It was so very tender and flavorful. The bbq chicken is similarly done. It's a dark meat filet, grilled perfection. The chicken katsu was good and hot. When an item is refried, it makes the outside feel hard. It tasted fine, and the katsu sauce is great. It was a little bit hard on the outside. Each dish usually has a couple of scoops of plain rice. Mine came with the salad also, but we added the macaroni salad. It's creamy and a nice palette cleanser. This is not fast food. It does take a few minutes to cook the meats and set up the plates. The cashier did let me know the fish would take a few minutes extra. Even so, I'll get it next time. I was craving Hawaiian BBQ and my brother suggested we try Oahu, instead of my go-to L&L. Among us, we ordered 3 entrees, 3 drinks, and 1 cream cheese wonton appetizer, and the total came out to $56. Hmmm....kinda pricey but it was my brother's treat, and he wasn't trippin.' (LOL) So we took a seat in the clean, spacious and minimally decorated dining room. Got our fountain drinks (Hawaiian Suns and boba teas also available for purchase) and condiments of extra teriyaki, soy, and chili sauces, and waited patiently for our food. The cashier came over and kindly apologized for overcharging us an extra entrée. She showed us on the receipt where she forgot to void something and handed cash back for it. My brother would never have noticed if she didn't bring it to our attention. Their mistake was handled honestly, quickly, and professionally. Extra star earned! Even though there was only 1 other customer before us waiting for their food, ours took awhile to come out (at least 15 minutes). The wontons needed to be fried just a little longer, as they were very light in color and not that crispy. I ordered all veggies with the Hawaiian BBQ combo of chicken, beef, and short ribs. I was most looking forward to the short ribs, but they ended up being my least favorite. Chicken and beef were very tender, grilled nicely, and flavorful. The ribs were too chewy. The steamed veggies were fresh and cooked al dente. I tasted the mac salad, just to compare to my fave L&L, and Oahu's was just as tasty with less mayo than L&L's. The food here is usually pretty good. I get the hibachi beef and shrimp. Sometimes it'll be a little dry, but nothing too bad. Perfect rice portion for me since I don't eat too much rice (total opposite for my boyfriend, he needs about double the amount). The macaroni salad is absolutely amazing though!! I'm a diehard fan. I always eat my part and my boyfriends since he doesn't care for it. What really keeps me coming back besides to macaroni salad is the sauce that comes with the meal! I don't know what it is, but it's great. My only complaint here is customer service. The cashier is not mean or rude, but also isn't the nicest. It's a very "hurry up and order" type feel, but she never says anything. I've also heard her and the man who cooks having a full on argument while guests were in the place. I guess I can't say it was an argument since it was in a language I didn't understand, but boy were they screaming and throwing their hands around.
