Butterfish is our favorite go to spot for poke places in Fresno/Clovis. We had many to go and dine in orders from here, and never disappointed. Fish always being fresh compared to other spots in Fresno. They have quite a large set of ingredients and sauces ones could customize and create their own bowl. This place is good if you want something quick however they are so stingy with the fish . I've been a few times and for each scoop of fish it's barely 4-5 pieces of fish . So for a large size of poke bowl of fish it is maybe a handful of raw fish . I like how many options they have for the base (salad, sushi rice , kelp , brown rice , mixed grains ) . Everything tastes super fresh and the topping options are actually unique, which I love because it keeps things from getting boring. You can really customize your bowl exactly how you want it. And the price is great because you can get up to 5 scoops of protein! My go-to sauces are the miso vinaigrette and spicy mayo, such a good combo and adds the perfect amount of flavor. I am really glad I found this place. I've been having bad luck finding food here in Clovis and a friend recommended that I try this place. I ordered for takeout since I was just on my lunch break. I never found a poke bowl place that's offered beef and bacon fried rice and it was great. I also had salad, imitation crab, salmon and tuna and it was really good. I had some fried shrimp on the side and it really paired well with the bowl. I did notice that some of the rice was undercooked but it was still edible. read more

This is the closest butterfish location to me so I'm back! The service is a lot better than my last review which was years ago lol.. I always get the large with the 5 scoops. Everything always tastes fresh and the sauces are good too.! you get a good amount because I usually don't finish my bowl in one sitting. I also ask for wasabi on the side so they give you a ball of it already in a lil container. The place can get busy at certain times they also have a window you can order and pick up from outside. Just no. I didn't know 2 scoops meant 2 pieces each scoop & a couple strings of imitation crab (no exaggeration) with the smallest bit of rice. All I could think was "what am I going to eat after this." I was applauded by the chintzy portions & the overload of toppings & sauce to hide the fact that there is no actual poke in your poke bowl. To top it off not a single worker looked like they wanted to be there & didn't treat any of us any better than they felt. It's been awhile since we ate here. Decided to grab some lunch. The line was long, but it moved fairly quickly. We placed our orders for the Teriyaki Beef Bowl w/Bacon Fried Rice, Teriyaki Chicken Bowl, Honey Walnut Shrimp Salad & a "Build your own Bowl: Thai Beef w/Bacon fried Rice. Everything was good, but both the beef & chicken teriyaki bowls could have used extra sauce. I didn't taste the teriyaki at all! I don't know if the cook forgot the sauce. The bowls also took a long time! The Honey Walnut Shrimp was refreshing. My daughter got the Bacon Fried Rice with her bowl. I tried it and liked it a lot! I'll definitely get that instead of the regular Sushi rice in future bowls. I had to make 3 separate payments at checkout even though all the bowls were on one order! It was a bit of an inconvenience. The cashier did apologize. The restaurant tables were full when we first arrived, but we were able to get a table. I usually get the regular bowl (3 scoops of protein), with white rice. Sometimes I'll add a little bit of the crispy wonton chips. I always go with the raw salmon, my fave. 2 scoops. My third scoop will vary but I usually lean towards the scoop of crab. I get the Spicy Mayo sauce (there's a few sauces to choose from), add in the cilantro, green onions, and so forth. The 5 toppings will almost always be: cucumbers, seaweed salad, avocado, fish eggs, and mandarin (this last choice varies)... Top it off with more spicy mayo and I have the perfect meal to keep me satisfied for a little while. It's quick, it's refreshing, not too heavy. I've tried a few other things off my friends and family but this is my go-to choice. I don't think you could go wrong though, as long as you know what you like. There are also cooked options, and bowls that have pre-selected goods if you need a little nudge on which way to go. Give it a try! read more

My last review was from five years ago and it's great to see that nothing has changed! It's still a very clean restaurant, super friendly workers, and insanely fresh food. I went with one of their signature bowls, the Rising Sun. This bowl is massive and filled with seared ahi, sushi rice, crispy wontons, miso vinaigrette, jalapeño, shaved snap peas, green onions, cilantro, spicy mayo drizzle, chili mandarins, sesame seeds, macadamia nuts, tempura crumbles. I had them take off the chili mandarins and wontons; added avocado. Like I said the portions here are huge and this bowl was no different. The ahi offering was hearty and all of the "fixings" were top notch. I love that even though I ordered a signature bowl I can still add as many extra toppings as I wanted. If I had one small complaint, I could have used a tad more sauce in my bowl. They now offer curbside and pickup orders and even have a walk up window that helps you avoid the line inside. I also love that Butterfish doesn't charge extra for certain toppings that other poke spots might, such as seaweed salad and avocado. The service is always great, and I love the ambiance! This time, the poke was disappointing, because I got avocado, and it was inconsistent. Some slices were perfectly ripe and others were still hard. Another ding would be the rice consistency. Listen... I love sushi. LOVE it. But sometimes I'm way too lazy to sit down, smile politely, wait for my roll, inhale it in 12 seconds, then immediately realize I need three more because sushi is delicious but also somehow legally required to be tiny. Enter Butterfish -- the hero I didn't know I needed. First off, the ambiance is wild in the best way. Imagine walking into a Starbucks... but instead of people quietly typing on laptops, everyone is quietly and quickly stuffing their faces like they're in a synchronized sushi-eating competition. Nobody looks up. Nobody blinks. Everyone is in a full-on food trance. It's peaceful, but in a "we are all spiritually connected through soy sauce" kind of way. You don't just order food here -- you join the dojo. I grabbed the large bowl, which is honestly so large it feels like a challenge issued by the universe. Started with white rice and wontons because crunch is life, then I went full Pokémon mode and chose all five meats: tuna, seared tuna, crab, shrimp, AND salmon. (If there was a sixth meat, I would've added that too, no hesitation.) I mixed it all with spicy Thai sauce, fried garlic, ponzu, and onions -- basically a flavor hurricane. Then came the fun extras: seaweed salad, cucumbers, edamame, jalapeños, habaneros (because why not test my life insurance), and masago -- you know, the little orange egg thingys that go pop! like edible bubble wrap. To top it off, I hit it with crunchy fried onions, garlic, sesame seeds, and teriyaki sauce. At this point, the bowl was so full it was basically a structural engineering problem. I'm shocked it didn't come with a warning label. And because I have no self-control, I got home and added chili oil, sriracha, AND soy sauce like I was trying to unlock a secret cheat code. The bowl was SO PACKED I had to mix it in a second bowl just to avoid violating the laws of physics... and the whole thing was only $21 after tax and tip. I dare -- no, I DOUBLE dare -- you to find a sushi restaurant handing you a mountain of sushi for that price. I'll wait. Butterfish is officially my new go-to spot when I want sushi without the whole sit-down, wait, contemplate ordering five more rolls routine. If you're a sushi addict like me, this place is basically a playground. And the fact that it's down the road from my house? Dangerous. Beautiful. Destiny. 10/10 would overstuff a bowl again.
