The white fish and shrimp plate with white rice and Mac salad is my go to when I come here. I usually visit with my Dad. We get our food fast and correct. They offer other alternatives for drinks of soda and tea is not your thing. There is a case in the front by the register that carries the sun juice cans. Different flavors for your choosing. The shrimp is butterflied and fried that way, making not more delectable. There are many sauces to choose from mine is the teriyaki and katsu mixed together. Nice music playing with good decorations. They had ordered 2 plates and when they received it they were told that they had ran out of rice and just gave them an extra scoop of Mac salad. I always love Ono. It is truly a great meal to have and feels balanced to me all the time. I forgot to take a picture of my barbecue chicken plate but I did take a picture of the cream cheese rangoons. I love the rangoons! They are so creamy! The barbecue chicken plate is also my favorite plate to get. The chicken is perfectly cooked all the time. So good with the teriyaki sauce. I also love the macaroni salad. Friday 5:30pm A friend and I finished shopping at Sam's Club which is in the same shopping area and decided to stop in for some Hawaiian BBQ. Yesterday was the second time I saw this young man working at Ono Hawaiian BBQ in Fresno. He's a high-functioning individual with a disability, and I couldn't help but tell him how amazing he was doing working hard and wearing a big smile on his face. We tried the teriyaki chicken (delish), the BBQ chicken (good but less flavorful), and the chicken katsu (tasty and crispy). I had previously tried the kalbi (too fatty for me) and the crab rangoon (surprisingly good). I love the rice; it's the shorter grain rice typically served with Hawaiian food. I understand why some people don't like the macaroni salad. It's very different from typical American BBQ mac salad. I quite like it, and the stuff at Ono tastes just the way it should. The teriyaki sauce they give you on the side is good, and the katsu sauce is less intense than at other places. Depending on the type of dish you order, you get your meat over (a lot of) cooked cabbage or a large side of asian slaw. The cooked cabbage is pretty plain and the slaw really needs more dressing. They are both nice to balance the richness of everything else in the dish though. Be aware, I was going to order the island fire chicken and I was informed it's made to order and would be about 13 minutes. I declined and got the katsu instead and then waited about 20 minutes. The barbecue beef was sliced thin but some parts were overcooked but in the end it still tasted very good. The fire chicken was on point and very flavorful. If you don't spicy chicken then this one won't be for you. The cabbage underneath the fire chicken with the onions and that seasoning was on point because of the seasoning from the chicken dripping onto it took it to another level!!! My wife had the Aloha plate with two items, Hawaiian BBQ Chicken and Fire Chicken. She wasn't impressed. She also got the Mac salad and didn't like it. No vinegar, so no acid. It's a chain and this is in Fresno. From OC to Fresno, it's all the same and I like that about franchises: predictability. Did we have other options? Yes, plenty, So why did we choose to eat here? Well one doesn't usually go to a place for ambience (most of the time) one goes for food and that area was also a bit meh. To begin, the Kalua Pork I received this time tasted rancid, like bad carnitas from a mysterious taco truck and it was drenched in liquid (water maybe?). I tried my best to not complain and eat my other items, but I'm a meat head so I had the idea to drench it in their delicious house dressing. This place is amazing in both food and service. Located in the Trader Joe's parking lot next to a local clothing store. Even on opening day when there were consistent lines they managed to provide the same quality food. All the sauces are made in house. The teriyaki sauce is delicious and their salad dressing is worth ordering a salad for. But if you don't want to your plate still comes on a bed of veggies. Mine came with a few pieces of broccoli and cabbage. I wish there was more broccoli bc I easily gobbled it up after dipping in sauce! The rice isn't hard like some places, it's soft and tastes great. I loved it with the macaroni salad. We had Chicken Katsu, short ribs, bbq chicken, beef and fried shrimp. I would reorder all. The Chicken Katsu was probably my favorite. Greeted with a friendly Aloha when I arrived. My meal was ready within a couple minutes and the person helping me was very friendly. Also, everyone was masked and they have plexiglass up. Given 4 star is also because interior was nice & clean with many seatings offered. Upon arrival customers would be greeted by the staff, however one in particular who took our order Madison did not seem welcoming at all. We stood in line to order and she did not ask us if she can help us or how if she can take our orders rather just stood there looking blah.
