From the first phone call to Dr. Tan's office, I knew this was the place for my daughter. Laura explained everything clearly and in detail on the phone. Her warm personality made me, as a parent, feel comfortable and confident in choosing Dr. Tan as an orthodontist. When my daughter met Dr. Tan, she told me that Dr. Tan treated her with respect and helped her feel less anxious about getting braces. Videos on the computer screen were shown to both my daughter and me so we could see how the procedure would be done. We had a very negative experience at another orthodontist that left us somewhat anxious and uneasy. We were rushed through the consultation and before I was shown the total cost for the braces, they whisked my daughter away, took x-rays and placed spacers in her teeth. I explained to the financial coordinator that I could not consent to the procedure until I spoke with my husband about the cost. She told me not to worry, it would be fine and that my husband needed to come for the presentation the following week. Well, my daughter and I left the office very upset! I felt their tactics were beyond aggressive and manipulative. Laura and Dr. Tan are amazing, professional and honest. We did not feel rushed at all. We felt welcomed, informed and respected. My daughter is so happy with how she was treated. Dr. Tan is thorough and we can tell she truly cares about her patients. I just started treatment with Dr. Tan in February and my open bite has already closed significantly! I have invisalign on the top and metal braces on the bottom. Dr. Tan is a very honest and genuine orthodontist, her assistants are very knowledgable and to my surprise so is Laura, receptionists. I've called in a few times about some concerns I had about my treatment and was pleasantly surprised Laura was able to assist me. Dr. Tan and her staff are wonderful! The second you walk in the secretary greets you, and makes you feel welcome. Even though I was over 5 minutes early for my appointment, Dr. Tan was ready to go! I got in the room, and she immediately starts conversing with me, about my day, and asks me if my braces are bothering me in any way at all. Of course they weren't, because Dr. Tan did a great job last appointment! She quickly examines my mouth, to see how I've progressed, then explains what she's going to do. As simple as that! The whole check up only took about 7 minutes because they work really quickly! It was great to be done so soon! She always asks me if I need more elastics or wax at the end, which is really great, because I usually forget to ask. The waiting room is very welcoming too. As if the friendly staff wasn't welcoming enough! Their waiting room has iPads to play/browse on and they have free wifi! Come on, who doesn't check their Instagram feed every moment they can?! When I switched orthodontists from the U.S. Mainland over here, I could not find anyone willing to work with my braces and that was close to where I live. Finally, I decided to use Yelp and found Oahu Orthodontics which was a great choice. Dr. Tan has been nothing but sweet and understanding about my braces situation. She takes the time to personally tighten your braces and check up on you. I was shocked when I found this out as my other orthodontist let the assistant do everything and only checked in for about one minute every appointment. Laura in the front is very kind and sticks to her schedule making sure they will always have time to see you even if you show up late or have to change your appointment. I just have to say that Dr. Tan and her staff are just awesome. My daughter is 11 and got braces on sometime before the beginning of the school year last year. She knew all about braces since she was 7, as her older sister got her braces at that time. And she barely let Dr. Tan look in her mouth. But she always wanted to go to Dr. Tan's beautiful and bright office when ever her sister had an appointment. Fast forward a few years, she was finally ready to start the process. She was great the entire time because Dr. Tan was good with her. It's been a year now, and to this day, she looks forward to her appointments and likes to pick out the colors of her rubber bands. Dr. Tan somehow makes her un nervous. Tiffany does a great job and talks story with my daughters. I enjoy talking story to Tiffany as well, and love all the colors of her hair. Especially the blue. And Kim always accommodates us, sometimes we get slightly stuck in traffic, but she will get us in. I've referred 2 of my co-workers to Dr. Tan. One's already had them put and taken off. Been coming here for over a year and Dr.Tan and Tiff have been nothing but amazing! Couple of my bottom teeth were super sensitive and painful and I had been suffering with this for as long as I can remember. My dentist, Dr.Lum, and other dentists I went to couldn't figure out what was happening. One of them went so far as to recommend a root canal to get rid of the pain! I was very frustrated and was about to give up all hope. I had a consultation with Dr.Tan and she pointed out right away what the problem was. It was the way my top teeth were hitting my bottom teeth, my bite was not aligned and causing a lot of pressure on some of my bottom teeth. Hallelujah! I finally had the answer I had been searching everywhere for. I had braces on for over a year to realign my bite. I just got them off and I have been cured from all the pain and sensitivity. I recently visited Oahu Orthodontics for a free consult regarding braces. Wow, was I surprised when I stepped in. The reception area wasn't at all like your usual dental office (you know small, cluttered, almost claustrophobic). This office was office was clean, bright and airy. The receptionist Laura immediately greeted me and had me fill out my patient info on the iPads in the waiting area. Nice. When I was done I was able to relax a bit and got to watch some TV for a few minutes since I arrived a little early. I don't even have a TV that big at home. Next, Leah, Dr. Tan's assistant, escorted me through the glass door and into the exam area. Wow again!! The view is amazing and all the natural light those huge windows let in is awesome. Love it. When I said bright and airy I meant it, the exam area has a loft type ceiling so you don't feel like the room is closing in on you. When Dr. Tan came in I was already relaxed but very excited about meeting her. She was very nice, knowledgeable, and just her tone of voice put me at ease. She did a thorough exam and then explained what my options were. She compared braces versus Invisalign, the cost differences, the time lines for both and also the discomfort I would be feeling. I came in for an initial consultation for my ten year old son and had a great experience. This place is high tech! I was able to complete the dental form on-line which helped speed up the check in process. Laura greeted us at the reception desk and introduced us to Dr. Tan. Laura is basically the only normal one there i miss her. Rose marie is not flexible to your schedule even when u pay in full. She will mis-align your mid line. And still ask for respect. Dont show her respect if she messes up your smile that you paid her for. I had to learn that. There is many other orthodontist who does her work better. I have before and after pics if needed. Message me. 2 years of pressure and it felt great to finally tell her off. Very disappointed. I have to see another orthodontist to undo what she did to my teeth and my profile. My family and I were on vacation in Honolulu just 2 weeks ago....My 9 year old complained that something was wrong with his braces and sticking into the inside of his upper lip...by Day 2 the insides of his upper lip were all swollen and starting to pus . Since we were staying for 10 days I didn't want this to affect the rest of my son's and our vacation. As you can imagine he was in immense pain....we yelped and googled for Orthodontics in the Honolulu area....I probably called 5 different ones. Only Dr Tan's office returned my call right away. Laura was the lady I spoke with and I explained the circumstances and she recognized the urgency. She somehow slotted us in the same day!!! That is unheard of for a specialist. When we arrived we were greeted by Laura and filled out the online registration on an ipad....while my son happily played on the another ipad. Super cool and Modern looking office...ultra white with brought green accents exposed concrete polished floors, lots of natural light...even had a DJ turntable ( : Dr Tan was so thourough , professional and friendly....fixed the problem quickly and efficiently . My son and I left that office feeling happy and will pay it forward because Dr Tan and Laura looked after us and went out of their way to make sure this problem would not affect the rest of our trip. I don't live in Hawaii but if I did she would be my go to specialist for sure. Although most general dentistry offices in Hawaii takes the "boiler plate, cookie cutter, one tool fits all solution" approach; Dr. Tan took the time to meticulously evaluate my situation and provide several recommendations based on practicality, effectiveness, costs, and my personal pain tolerance (and I'm a sissy). I was very comfortable with her recommendations and her way of articulating that my options was not THE only option based on my time line, money I had available, and what my insurance was willing to cover. Customer Service and staff: The staff is very customer service oriented. From the moment I stepped in and left the office, the staff made me feel welcome in every step of the process; from forms to seeing the Dr. At any given time, I never felt that I was the least important person in the dental office based on my situation (even though I was just coming in for the free examination). I also noticed large demographics of patients from kids to older adults; all of whom seem to leave the office smiling. Costs: I think I speak for most people when I say that costs have been a detractor for procuring braces. The first thing that comes to mind when people associate braces is the costs. Since the O^squared offer free oral examination, I figured there was nothing for me to lose just to get an idea on the out of pocket expenses. After the consul, I found myself thinking that the costs and services associated with the procedure isn't that bad and that the staff was very amenable to making things work for me based on my financial situation. I didn't feel any pressure from getting braces--something that others dentists pressured me to get in the past. I was presented with other options and alternatives. I did, however, walk out of her office thinking that the phrase "braces are expensive" is a relatively loose and misconstrued quote. The price tag and the associated payment plan offered by the staff are remarkably reasonable considering it is a two year process. Facilities: The facility is state of the art. Everything is brand new! I was able to check my mail on their ipads while I waited for my consultation. Oahu ortho is one of the best ortho places you can find. Their staff is friendly, their costs are up front, and they have lots of parking. I came here to get a retainer replacement (I haven't worn my old one in years) and they fitted me with a new one and gave me check ups for 250 inclusive. They do take insurance as long as you have ortho coverage. Their lobby is pretty kid friendly. They have an iPad hooked up with games and a tv hooked into an Apple TV. Appointments usually go pretty quick so it's not too much waiting. I would highly recommend them if you're looking for a new orthodontist. read more

I have been seeing Dr Tan for over a year. Originally my treatment was only supposed to take 1 year and now I'm on my second set of trays for another 5 months. My teeth are still crooked. She and her staff are friendly but when I told her my concerns that I felt my bite was still tilted and my centerline was off, she didn't acknowledge it. She made every excuse why it was that way...that it was somehow my fault because my soft tissues changed since I'm older and that my face is asymmetrical. All bull crap. My jaw and mouth was even before my teeth starting shifting so there's no reason why it can't go back to that especially if I'm paying almost $6000!! She just kept saying she'll keep my concerns in mind and to just wait and see. She didn't address my concerns at all. read more

My family and I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Tan. Not only is she one of the most friendly and personable doctors we have encountered, the depth of her care for our son during his orthodontic treatment is beyond compare. She paid attention when I made a random comment about our son snoring and made a suggestion he see an ENT. She followed up at every visit we had with her for his orthodontic treatment on our progress with ENT. She felt very strongly he needed a tonsillectomy and she was absolutely right. Our son had his tonsil's removed and became a whole different child. He is getting sleep at night now, is a much better student, his behavior is markedly improved and he has more focus. I have never yelped before so this is my first review. I signed up with yelp today because of how amazing this place was. I just felt like I had to let people know about this great business. I have worked in customer service for 8 years now, and the service at Oahu Orthodontics is the best I have ever had, Ever. My permanent retainer had snapped yesterday and so I decided to google an Orthodontics place. This one popped right up and so today, while at Longs, I decided to just walk upstairs and talk to them about my options for my snapped retainer. No appointment or call, I walked in and was immediately greeted by Leah, one of there amazing staff members. She had a huge smile on her face and was so welcoming. She truly seemed to care about what I needed. She immediately made me feel very comfortable. Within 5 min she had me in the orthodontics chair, and Dr. Tan came in right away to help me. She was so personable and really easy to talk to. She is so welcoming, caring and knowledgable. She gave me a free consultation of what was going on and helped me out right away.
