    brisket and fries
    Leisa L.

We ordered double brisket, double fries with salt only ($26) and another mac & cheese with fries ($15). We can't take spicy seasoning on the fries, so I requested salt only and double-checked with the cashier before paying. It's a simple request that every restaurant accommodates, and Your Cashier Confirmed!!! The senior lady shouldn't yell at customers because your team accidentally added spicy seasoning and had to redo the fries. It's not the customer's fault if you have an internal miscommunication. We paid for food, not to be accused and hear your complaints. And how were we supposed to know you don't have salt since you're running a restaurant? After a 40-minute waiting under the sun, a "thank you for waiting" would have been appreciated. Instead, the senior lady made us listen to her endless lecture and complaints about us being difficult and disrespectful to the menu before handing over the food. I am your customer, not your employee. It's wrong to bully your customers by yelling at them in public! Besides that, as many other reviewers mentioned, the brisket had a chemical scent that resembled gasoline and grew stronger over time. The mac and cheese was very dry. We basically threw everything away since no one wanted to touch it again. Among all the brisket and mac & cheese we've tried in different places, this was really not a good one. The only star is to the cashier, who was at least warm and nice at the beginning.

Oak and Anchor BBQ has now established a permanent spot inside the Chula Vista Brewery at The District in Eastlake after having a mobile presence on Third Avenue for quite a while. It's a long drive for me to get here, but I wanted to taste their barbecue offerings. The inside of the brewery was very spacious with picnic tables for seating. The back counter was where you placed an order for food. Eight different meat options were available including brisket that was only sold on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Loaded fries and a loaded baked potato were choices as sides along with eight standard items like cole slaw, mac & cheese, collard greens, etc. Entrées were sold as a meat (1, 2, or 3) + a side (1 or 2). I stacked on the meats by picking the brisket, pork belly, and tri-tip with a side of Texas baked beans. The pork belly was the winner by far. There were four long strips that were glazed with honey. The cut was so moist and fatty. The brisket and tri-tip were placed together with the beans in a separate take-out container. I am glad they threw in a couple of cups of sweet barbecue sauce to use as a dip for the two meats. The quality of the food was solid, and the pleasantness of the cashier was even better. I was very satisfied with making a trip to visit this BBQ joint in Chula Vista.

Black and Veteran owned TEXAS style BBQ! The homey Chris and Mrs. Sweat get down on the Smoke Pit! From Brisket, Chicken Wings, Chicken Legs, Chicken Breasteses, chicken Heads, sausages, Turkey Legs, Ribs... what ever he can smoke it! Be sure to get the Hogzilla! It's a giant baked potato with everything!!! And I mean everything! It's delicious and nutritious (if consumed in portions)! I used to go to Coop's in Lemon grove, but when my friend opened up his business, I knew I couldn't go back to Lemon Grove. If you're still in the Navy and plan to do any type of gathering that requires food, I.e. CPO season stuff, re-enlistments, retirement, commissioning, or promotion ceremonies hit up Chief Sweat and Oak and Anchor BBQ. Tell him your favorite Elite Yelper (Me) sent you.

Phenomenal BBQ!! I came across them when I was working in Encinitas. They were part of a Farmer's Market. They are legit!! Family owned and what a wonderful and amazing family! Hard working, friendly, and they make awesome BBQ! The meats are juicy, tender and full of flavor. Bought some extra to take home to the wife and she said it was soooo good! The meat had a great smokey flavor without being over powerful. Next time, I'll try their ribs and chicken. Can't break away from their tri-tip, brisket and hot link, though. I was told by a wonderful lady, my name will never be forgotten as I have the same name as her husband!....lol. Thank you for that awesome BBQ!! See ya soon....

Brisket was juicy and well flavored and coleslaw was great too. I was very satisfied with the whole meal, will definitely be back.

Unique smokiness emanating from this place attracted me to take a second look. So glad I got to try Texas BBQ here!

I've had a LOT of bbq in my life but DAMMIT MAN! These guys know what they're doing. I'm born and raised in the south (Louisiana/Georgia) so I've had authentic Texas, Kansas City and bbq from the Carolinas. The big dawgs. I literally got into my car to go home, took a bite of the tri tip, turned the car off and shook the bbq boss' hand (for some reason I was rude and didn't ask his name). Also bought a second plate to take to my mama. Lol. I will absolutely put my stamp on this business and recommend them to everyone I know. They seem sincerely appreciative of all their customers and it makes a difference. Go see them near 32nd st base and Una behind the bar. The pic is the 2 meat, 2 side meal but one side was potato salad (cold) so it came in a different small container. Go get some Q today. Also, if the owners read this, yes, me and mama coming Sunday for dinner!

Oak and Anchor Bbq came to my rescue. I had plans to prepare a meal for my family Christmas Eve. Earlier in the week I found out that my husband and I tested positive for Covid and had to cancel our plans. I texted Chris and asked if they could deliver a meal fir us as we could not leave our house. With just two days notice, they delivered the most delicious meal. My husband and son said that it was the best barbecue they ever had and they are very picky. Thank you so much for saving our Christmas!

I tried this place today after hearing great reviews. As honest as I can be, I was truly disappointed. I ordered 2 spuds and 2 orders of ribs. Ribs were ok potato did not look anything like the pic. My mind went back to the 80's-where's the beef? Sorry wish it was better. cashier was great!

This is a big taste in Texas here in SoCal. Having roots from Texas I have been spoiled and demanding when it comes to BBQ. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. The meats chosen are premium quality and is not wasted in the masterful hands of Chris Sweat the owner. This is a family own and operated business and they bring the good old Southern hospitality along with the seasoning. I have been here on several occasions and the food is CONSISTENTLY good. If You love good BBQ then you owe it to your taste buds to stop by a pay a visit.

Ordered Brisket and 1 side and got this just now at Linda Vista Farmer's market. What is this?

I have always enjoyed O&A BBQ for as close to Texas BBQ that I have ever found in SD. Although now I think they only do catering.

I didn't plan the event myself, so I don't know if they even take reservations. If they do, then that's our fault. It is an open air concept, so it's very hot in the restaurant. You sit on hard chairs with a bicycle under the table that limits leg room. There is no shortage of hillbilly music to listen too as you dine on the ill seasoned subpar food. The beer menu sucks. Thankfully I didn't need to use the restroom. Who knows what I would have encountered there. The only positive thing I can think of is that the employees are friendly and accommodating. I would not recommend this place to anyone, nor would I return. If the restaurant offered to pay for a meal with drinks for our family, I still would not return.

But it's softballs, not baseballs. Service is legit. Fast, friendly. They're like get in, order, get out. But we stayed for probably an hour and a half. The live music was great, not too loud. I am sad to confess the food here is not as legit as I figured based on being a San Diego local and a big DDD watcher. It probably depends on which day you come, but on Thursday, the brisket was so average. Del's in Del Cerro is better. Smoky and the Brisket is better. I had my brisket served with that nacho cheese and relish, not nearly as great as I thought it would be based on DDD. I also don't drink anymore, but if I were to have had 2-3 beers + this dinner + the enviornment I would have loved it. My son gave a huge thumbs up to his burger, daughter liked her food. If you want an experience, have time you need to kill and have kids, it's a solid spot, but in no way is this a destination if you live west of the 15. Stick to classic spots.
