The brisket is CHOPPED brisket. It is NOT SLICED brisket. For us BBQ lovers we chop our brisket that doesn't come out good. We slice the good stuff. But smother the chopped stuff in BBQ sauce then that saves it. Their Carolina sauce is good, but the mustard sauce not so much. I'm just sayin...

This place churns out popular beef brisket and pulled pork sandwiches to what is usually a long line. It's real smoked barbecue made on site. Lots of real bbq flavor. Probably not the best you'll ever have but definitely the best barbecue at Petco.

Left: El Borracho Cheese Fries with added smoked brisket- I highly recommend it! Right: Pulled Pork Sandwich

My favorite item to get from here is the El Borracho Cheese Fries with smoked brisket added (for an additional cost). Their queso is so delicious, and the crushed Fritos adds a satisfying crunch. The smoked brisket bumps it up from a side to an entree. I have also gotten the Pulled Pork Sandwich before. The sandwich can be a little bit dry so I like getting the Carolina Gold mustard and sweet bbq sauce on the side. Then, I add the sauces to the sandwich as I eat. The line was long, but the food is delicious prepared pretty quickly after you order. It is worth the wait, and such a filling meal to enjoy while you watch a Padres game in Petco Park!

The bbq brisket sandwich. Dry, dry, dry!!!!

Seriously the driest brisket I have ever had. Jerky is moister than this excuse for meat. As one has to submit their receipt to get food, there is no way to complain (not that the establishment would care). Avoid at all costs!!!! Too bad I can't rate as a zero.

Tri tip sandwich. Hard to tell from the photo but the layer of tri tip is very thin. Not much meat.

Don't waste your money on a sandwich. It is more bun than anything. Skimpy on the meat. Lots of fries though. Someone got the fries with BBQ on top; I recommend that instead because they seemed to get more meat. Taste is good though...but it is definitely not as good as Phil's BBQ that used to occupy this spot.

I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and while the meat was alright, it was incredibly dry and cold. The biggest reason for my low rating is the unkind servers who hasn't given what we all paid for. The menu clearly states that the sandwich comes with coleslaw and bbq sauce, neither of which were being given. I proceeded to ask them for the coleslaw which he didn't seem to know was supposed to come with the meal which made no sense. Then I asked for the bbq sauce to which he also was confused about. Was a little frustrating that the workers didn't seem to pay attention to detail when they only sell three items on the menu. However once I put all the toppings on it tasted great and the serving size was large. The fries were also yummy.

    Can't miss this sign!

Great BBQ cooked on site. Both the brisket and pulled pork are good with a big side of fries. Served with 3 sauce options, but I find the "Carolina/mustard" style a bit too much like plain yellow and not the "golden" style I've had in other places Reasonably priced and big enough for 2 light/modest eaters to share

Pulled pork fries were the best! Brisket sandwich was good; huuuuugge amount of side fries.

Terrible bbq. Had the pulled pork sandwich. It was dry and cold. The meat was hard as a rock too. I would never get this again at Petco.

I liked some of the meats here, but others meats just weren't for me. We got a little bit of certain cuts of meat.. My husband and I really enjoyed the brisket the sausage links, the potato salad and coleslaw. The tri-tip unfortunately was kinda dry and the ribs were a little tough. And the Mac and cheese were super garlicky. This bbq place is ok, it's nice and big and has a nice relaxing atmosphere. But I would stick to the brisket and hot links and the sides.

AN ENTIRE EXPERIENCE!…read more There are very few places that have the essence of this spot. So unassuming on the outside, and then you open the front door and it hits you...the smell, the music, the sunshine coming through the back door, the warm welcomes. This is a cookout in restaurant form and the energy tells you that it's gonna be a good meal and a great experience. Yup, we picked the right spot and we knew it immediately!! The sampler platter was killer and we especially loved the ribs! The sides were absolutely phenomenal, that was easily the best mac salad of my adult life and the greens had such a balanced flavor profile and perfect texture. My particular son ate absolutely every bite of his brisket sandwich and that bomb af mac & cheese. We ate every crumb of the cornbread and then got another piece to go. My only regret was not getting a piece of lemon cake to go. Pictures? Nope, sorry, not this time. We took in the vibe and were too present to be worried about our phones, and that's more of a compliment than my mediocre food photography old ever be.

So I was hesitant to try this. However, I'm so glad I did. It was tender and succulent. I would order it again. The tri tip was amazing as were the baby backs. Yep, I'll be back for the baby backs. The Mac and cheese was ok. I prefer backed mac and cheese. But that's my preference. Im picky about greens and I really liked them. The pulled pork was delicious and the smoked meatloaf had just the right amount of smoke. For sides, I got the bacon, potato salad and the Street corn. I've had both of these sides before and they hit just right each time. I also ordered the bourbon pecan pie to go. This is the first time having the bourbon pecan pie. I did find some shelves in it, which were a little unpleasant, but at least I know that it's real pecans. It does have a strong bourbon flavor so it may not be the best for kids. To drink, I got the guava lemonade. I arrived with my pup and we sat outside. Everybody was super dog friendly. They brought a nice bowl of water for my guy. I ended up taking 2/3 of my meal home because the portions are big enough for two.

She offered every possible way to keep our littles happy, so that made us feel very comfortable and just a breathe of relief. A++ on customer service. Food was pretty spot on, kids ate free today with purchased adult meal. Our kids ate every crumb... which is incredibly rare for our kids being so darn picky. They enjoyed it. There must have been at least a dozen kids or more. I told my 7 year old son not to bring balls but of course other kids did. If you park in the back there is no doubt your car will get hit. But it's softballs, not baseballs. Service is legit. Fast, friendly. They're like get in, order, get out. But we stayed for probably an hour and a half. The live music was great, not too loud. I am sad to confess the food here is not as legit as I figured based on being a San Diego local and a big DDD watcher. It probably depends on which day you come, but on Thursday, the brisket was so average. Del's in Del Cerro is better. Smoky and the Brisket is better. I had my brisket served with that nacho cheese and relish, not nearly as great as I thought it would be based on DDD. I also don't drink anymore, but if I were to have had 2-3 beers + this dinner + the enviornment I would have loved it. My son gave a huge thumbs up to his burger, daughter liked her food. If you want an experience, have time you need to kill and have kids, it's a solid spot, but in no way is this a destination if you live west of the 15. Stick to classic spots.
