A 5pm reservation would make one think, quality service and a fresh hot kitchen! Well something certainly has changed in the last few months because we received neither! After explaining to our server how excited we were to be there for Mother's Day and how it was our parents first visit we placed an order of 3 appetizers (all more bland and less hot than they should be) - keep in mind the restaurant was mostly empty. As we waited for our entrees (an unusually long time) our server didn't check on drinks or water. When 3 of our 4 entrees did come out, we waited for the 4th as manners would expect. Five minutes, 10 minutes, still nothing. When I finally was able to flag down our server there was some excuse about "mixed up tickets" and that a "manager would be right over." 15 more minutes, all were done with their meals as my husband still awaited his entree. No manager, no server. Completely unacceptable. As my sweet husband cut into his filet, completely over cooked and rubbery, was supposed to be medium- he dare not send it back as everyone else was done and he felt terrible. To make matters worse, my father's fish, was loaded with blood line, ruining the flavor of the meat of the snapper. The least they could do was send a manager over. $200 later- (no alcohol) we will definitely never be back and you shouldn't waste your time or money either. There are plenty of other great restaurants around that will take far better care of you and your family.

We arrived when they opened at noon (on a weekday), and other than one other table that arrived soon after us, we were the only ones there until we left a little over an hour later. Still, this place wasn't full, so I'm not sure about the hype concerning the need for reservations. There was only 1 server, who was very friendly and helpful but seemed overly busy. It looked as if a manager might have wandered in and out briefly. The kitchen is open, so there was a bit of noise coming from there. This place is not very large. The food was very good. We both enjoyed the soup. I had the Southwestern veggie, which was the soup of the day. It was very spicy, but I was able to tone it down with some sour cream. We shared the Margarita flatbread. It was very good. The tomatoes were extra delicious. My date had the lobster and shrimp bisque and loved it. He also had the strip steak, which he ordered medium well, but it wasn't, more like medium rare. He had the brussel sprouts and potatoes as sides and really liked them. I had the Baja cod tacos, blackened, and I would definitely get them again but ask for the sauce to be on the side instead of drizzled everywhere but on the actual tacos. There are a lot of reviews out there as this place has been in business a long time. You have to be doing something right in my opinion and well, they are good and they are meh - depends on your expectations I suppose. The story goes that Peter used to work at Peter Lugers in NYC - the holy grail of US Steakhouses. Does working at the best steakhouse in the US qualify you in any way to run a steakhouse? Not sure. But there were definitely things at Peter's that were spot-on as compared to Lugers. The place is set off the beaten path in Jensen Beach. Sort of a tropical vibe looking building and the decor inside is somewhat dated and hard to describe - beachy / Ocktoberfest is maybe the best way to put it. The staff consisted of three ladies the night we were there (a Saturday) and like that Meatloaf song goes, two our of three ain't bad. Two were just super friendly and personable - the third one just looked miserable. They all hit our table at one point or another during the evening and #3 just was not there mentally. she wasn't rude or anything - just blah. We got started with a nice glass of wine - the wine list is decent - not overly pretentious and there is something there for every price point. The menu is steakhouse standard with a few German dishes tossed in there - fine by me. Those are very complimentary cuisines. We started off with the escargot and the "Peter's special salad". Escargot came out swimming in a garlic sauce on top of a flaky pastry - a new spin on an old classic and it had enough garlic to lower you blood pressure like 50 points - outstanding. Salad was large and was enough for the both of us to work with. I went with the Porterhouse for two (med-rare), with sauteed mushrooms and Peter's hash browns. Steak was cooked perfectly and presentation was wonderful. The Hash browns were also a hit but the sauteed mushrooms lacked any flavor- I expected something a lot more sauteed looking - deep, dark in color and these were just meh. The meat is the star here and these steaks definitely hit the mark in terms of flavor and tenderness. All in all a very good night out. Prices were steakhouse specific and they offer valet parking. The crowd is older and the one they they did not have was a free standing bar- that is sort of a missed opportunity in my opinion, and a massive crowd generator in steakhouses in the north. Definitely give it shot if looking or a really good steak - those are exceedingly hard to come by on the Treasure coast. Valet parking in their lot, or park in downtown Jensen and stroll over.
