A cozy riverbend pub and patio, perfect for a creative brew and a very light nosh. Interior is one large, open space of delightful exposed brick and an industrial chic vibe. A smattering of keg-barrel tables, and some standing-around-drinking-your-beer room near the bar itself. Order beers and small snacks at the register. The snacks are a bit of an afterthought, so don't come hungry. The cheese plate for 2 is basically a tastier Lunchable, and you may want to order your own if you like a decent bite-to-sip ratio. Several pub tables outside with keg-barrel umbrella stands on a pebbled patio, nicely distanced so you have your own space to chat by the charming river view. We visited on a very hot, mid-summer Sunday, grateful for the large and necessary umbrellas. Limited off-street parking lot. Friendly staff. Get here early, in nice weather, if you want a seat outside along the Shawsheen river and/or convenient parking. The main lot is small, and they do have spaces reserved exclusively for Oak & Iron, but there's not enough of them. If there's no tables outside, there's still plenty of space inside, particularly if you're here with a larger group. Beers are reasonably priced, with something for everyone, and flights are available. My coffee stout had a distinct flavor and a really nice color to it. Service is quick and friendly, including staff walking around outside checking on you. This afternoon there was a food truck, Souped Up Food. We didn't order anything from them, but there was a menu of their products on each table (great variety of options), and many happy customers eating their products - definitely someplace to look up for a separate review. Solid spot. I don't live local enough (almost two hours away) to go here often, but if I did, I'm sure we would stop in periodically. Some good brews on tap (with a couple standouts), some nice snacks, fun location, new and clean space (including the bathroom), safe atmosphere, and friendly staff. Great spot to meet up with friends, play some games, and drink some good beer. Also, grab a soft pretzel to snack on with your beer. You can also BYOF if you choose. While we were here, there was a bagpiper playing every 30 minutes or so, a pleasant surprise for a Saturday afternoon. We had to drive around a few times for a parking spot to open up. You should definitely carpool or take an Uber to save yourself the hassle of parking... and also not drink and drive. read more

last call is 8:30pm. they start putting chairs on tables at 8. i've never even heard of pub that closes before 9. if you like IPA, i guess it's good. if you don't like bitter beer, it's terrible. my "belgian beer" was terribly hoppy and quite low on alcohol. i saw a family bring in their own pizza. that's mega cool. the place is loud. i did see that they put sound damping materials under the chairs and benches (smart!!!) even so, they allow people in there that are, truly, yelling from one side of the place to each other about personal stuff. wtf? i'll avoid it. not my style at all. read more

The selection here is not huge, but there is a good variety of beers each time we visit, which ensures there is something for everyone every time. The atmosphere is great - with board games and a projector TV indoors, and outdoor seating with beautiful scenery (running water next to old mills) when the weather is nice. Awful lazy people with a bad attitude. Apparently they don't serve food after 8 pm on a Friday night encouraging people to drink on an empty stomach. Looks like a bunch of college kids or younger drinking beer and talking loudly in an outside area along a parking lot. It's terrible that they close the kitchen so early. I love this place, but the time has come to dock a few stars because of the fact that they allow kids in what is essentially a bar/beer hall. Unfortunately, the place was marketed from the get-go as a family friendly venue and they encourage this by providing board games and soft drinks on the menu. I came here today with a few ladies from my Meetup group and they were aghast that parents would take kids in here and all agreed that a beer hall should be 21+ only. Or, the least this place could do is make it 21+ after 6 PM on Friday and Saturday nights. Two young kids at the table next to us started screeching and horse playing. At least one of the moms immediately took they outside to run off some energy, but a beer brewery/tasting room is not a daycare center. Hey parents, are you really so cheap/lazy/clueless that you can't hire a babysitter? Oak & Iron has received more than one complaint about this issue, particularly on their Facebook page. Their response was to update the FAQ section of their site (which you have to dig for to find) with a request to watch your kids and respect other patrons. I'm hoping that when the wine and music venue opens on Main Street later this year, that they make their venue 21+ only. read more

I love the place. Even better when a food truck is outside. Summer on the Shawsheen and Zugspitze were 2 of the drinks I tried. Great bar service, great atmosphere. Only loses a star because the parking lot is very small, website doesn't have a parking page updated, and the mens bathroom ceiling light blower was encased in dust when I looked up in the one person at a time bathroom. I ended up parking at in an open fitness parking lot about a 5-10 minute walk, not bad on a great night with great weather when I went. I'll be back again soon. I love the "bring your own food" option. I wish other places also had that great option as well!! read more

On weekends there is a lot of families and children. Family friendly is not the first thing that pops into mind when I think breweries. This place is cool looking inside and great beers but it is filled with children . There are kids playing board games and running around inside. outside children are playing on picnic with tonka trucks and dolls while mothers hand out bags of animal crackers that are spilling out everywhere on the gravel. This place serves 3 things for food but is a brewery not the 99 resteraunt that has a full menu. I don't see a reason for children to be 25% of the attendance at brewery that doesn't have a food menu. Also I would not bring my kids to a brewery while me and my wife are both drinking. read more
