Never have I had a more awful BBQ experience. Went here with my family on a Wednesday, their first day open after Father's Day the prior Sunday. Our server was a nice girl but didn't exude intelligence or personality. I don't say those things as insults, I know a lot of people like that but I don't think that was what we or most people hope for when going to pay an arm and leg for a specialty cuisine like BBQ. We ordered the BBQ sampler for $63 (1/4 lb brisket, 1/4 lb pulled pork, 1/2 rack ribs, potato chips and 2 sides) we added an extra 1/4 lb of brisket and for the sides we chose baked beans and cornbread waffles. The menu said "out of ribs" so in lieu of ribs we ordered Burnt ends which I have been in the mood for and in search of for a while (a lot of bbq places in this area of NH don't have burnt ends) but wait! They had ribs! They didn't have burnt ends... so good job keeping up to date on that menu! So, we got the ribs. The food looked okay when it came out until you looked closer. The whole meal was heavily drizzled with bbq sauce in what I assume was a last ditch effort to make it look appetizing. Usually the moist smoked meats should speak for themselves. They very likely seemed to serve us the leftover Father's Day Brisket and if not, they have really awful, dry, jerky like brisket the entirety of which literally broke apart into dry flakes the second a fork touched it. The pulled pork was also pretty bad. It was charred as if after they pulled it they threw it over an open flame or back on the smoker which isn't commonplace in bbq as it's supposed to be smoked, pulled and served nice and juicy so I assume this was also leftovers. There were sections of it that were charred so bad it was like a burnt chunk of wood that was inedible but a little more than half of the serving was edible with bbq sauce. The Ribs were actually quite good! They were juicy and fell off the bone which is key for good BBQ but they did not redeem the meal yet only added an extra star to this would-have-been 1 star review. The cornbread waffles were floppy and cold, seemed more like an undercooked eggo than a modified cornbread from a good BBQ spot. The beans were fine, nothing to write home about but not disappointing in any notable way. The chips were very good and seemed like they could have been made in house but didn't see or hear anything to confirm this and I wasn't there for chips anyway. My Wife and her Mother both ordered cocktails at $16 a piece, when my wife tried to modify the type of liquor in her cocktail she was told they were batched (pre made In large quantities) with a certain brand of liquor which is not awesome but I guess acceptable for a brewery as it's specialty is supposed to be beer, I did not try any beer as I don't drink much especially on a Wednesday so unfortunately I can't judge the place's brewery ability which also lends itself to the 2nd star. When my wife's cocktail was served the server came out with a shaker and did the performance which I thought was also weird as we had just been told the cocktails are batched so we know you just poured pre batched cocktail in a shaker and shook it. We made our feelings known about the brisket and they were nice enough to refund the extra 1/4 lb we ordered which we did not ingest. The whole meal came out to $147 and we tipped fairly as we really held nothing against the server. They take your card at the door and put a $1 hold on the card which I don't love. After the meal the whole transaction turned into 2 separate transactions for the full amount of close to $200 one of which was taken right out of my bank the other pended for THREE DAYS while my bank held the funds. They should just charge you once the meal is complete. I really question the owners ability to run a business and make smart business decisions including hiring a good Chef. I will not go here ever again and I advise others to stay away unless a change is made. I hope the owner re evaluates his business model and his seriousness to be good because as the only actual bbq place within a high traffic big retail market they really have all the reason to be great. 2 stars. If you read this and say "food costs are high so they can't afford to throw away the leftovers from Father's Day and it's hard to run a small business!" Then maybe should volunteer to be their holiday leftover eater, as the only BBQ place in Salem I'm sure they are not struggling to make it as a small business and it's absolutely unacceptable to serve 3 day old meats. Brisket should be an absolute shining staple of a BBQ restaurant and they should take it very seriously. If these meats weren't leftovers and were in fact prepared the day we dined there then this place really is 1 star and needs to fire its kitchen and get someone serious in there. read more

The dry meat comes without any sauce, and when you request it, they bring out a small plastic to-go container. MANAGEMENT: When they sent out the wrong item, the manager refused to replace it!!! The waiter had to ask more than once, and when the manager still refused, I had to ask to speak to him. The coward would not even come out to speak to me or address the issue! At any other restaurant, when an order is incorrect, the manager comes to your table, apologizes, and comps the order. The person running this establishment doesn't even show his face! I wanted a simple to go order, I was in the area and wanted to try their pulled pork. I walked in and asked if I could place a to go order. However, they have an undisclosed "service charge". They add 4% if paying with a card. It's not disclosed on their website and I was only informed when I questioned the fee. Fine, I paid cash. I was asked if I wanted all of my change. Why should I tip on a to go order? It literally took less than 1 minute to prepare. Today happens to be Friday the 13th. The server made a comment about the place would be full of spooky people would be in. The bar tender Eric made a comment that they were already here. This review is solely based on the food. The service was great and if you're coming just for a drink then it's a 5/5. They brew everything on site and they had fun flavors for their stouts (vanilla and peanut butter - two different drinks). This might be because we came late in the evening for dinner, but the brisket was very dry. The only thing saving it was the BBQ, which was sweet and tangy. We got 1lb of brisket and various sides (chili, cornbread waffle, and bacon Mac). It also comes with grillos pickles and wrap city chips. I have to say that the chili was pretty good, not watery and came with Fritos for a good crunch. I tend to like my chili on the spicier side, but this was still good. The Mac and cheese tasted mealy and not flavorful, but the noodles were cooked well. The cornbread waffles were cold and were not as good as a cornbread muffin. My boyfriend and I gave this spot a try yesterday evening (Saturday around 5:30) after seeing good reviews. We originally wanted to sit outside, but after waiting a few minutes without our server coming out, we popped back inside. It's a cozy interior with a small bar, low lighting and a few TVs to watch the game. I love the Caribbean touch! The menu is up on a big chalkboard - only complaint here is a few of the prices were illegible. They've got some smokers behind the restaurant so you know they're serious about their BBQ! To drink I ordered the hard lemonade. Simple and delicious, perfect amount of liquor. To eat, I had the bacon mac n' cheese and my boyfriend had the brisket pizza. I'd give the mac n' cheese a 3.5/5. It was good, but the cheese sauce lacked a little flavor. The brisket pizza, however, was SO yummy. Had a perfect balance between crispy and soft dough, great amount of cheese and sauce, and the brisket gave this amazing sweetness and smokiness. 4.5/5, would go back for this pizza for sure. I would not recommend this place point blank. I honestly don't know where to start but to keep it simple- The server offered nothing. No explanation of the extensive menu or brewed beers. Throughout the meal, we weren't provided with side plates or utensils, and we ended up getting those ourselves. We also had to get our own to-go containers. Our table wasn't cleared during the meal, and the only proactive interaction we had from our server was asking my toddler to remain seated. What stood out even more was that we weren't the only table experiencing this. One nearby table had to get up to ask for drink refills, another had to get up to pay their bill, and another had to ask for takeout containers. There were only a handful of occupied tables on a Wednesday evening, so it didn't appear that the staff was overwhelmed. The food was also disappointing. The barbecue was dry and lacked flavor. To make matters worse, they were out of wings. On a previous visit, they had been out of barbecue entirely and were only serving pizza, so this seems to be an ongoing issue with menu availability. We made a stop in Salem for dinner after seeing some positive reviews of Border Brewery and Barbeque. The staff was super friendly and made recommendations for their favorite menu items. The decor inside is classic BBQ joint and they have a large outside seating area that dog friendly. I had the burnt end plate which had a big portion of burnt ends which were tasty, but I wished they were a little smoker and more moist. My partner had the pulled pork sandwich, which is made with cornbread waffles as the bun. She said it was tasty, especially after the addition of their amazing BBQ sauce. They also charge 3% service charge, which I find annoying. Be honest and just increase your prices rather than add a surcharge. The barbecue sampler is 63 dollars so I steered away from that. We were looking for a place to have one drink and we stumbled across this place. We initially were really excited about it, it smelt yummy inside, staff was friendly, and it was warm and cozy. Their menu is on a large chalk board at the front of the restaurant that you order from. And beer menu was located behind the bar. We each ordered one beer which we were not really impressed with and ordered queso dip to share. The queso was hot in temperature and had a smokey taste to it and was served with ?homemade chips that were puffy and not too soft not too crispy. To our surprise, our 2 drinks and 1 app was $40. The chalk board menu with the prices were smudged making it difficult to read as we interpreted our appetizer costing us $10 when instead it was $14. I went here as a result of my daughter, getting me a reel craft pass for a Christmas present. I usually don't venture down this close to the Massachusetts border, but I decided to take a risk. It is a small place, I almost missed it as it is in the corner of a strip mall. As I walked in another group of two walked in ahead of me, and we were all given a set of directions by one of the servers who was fantastic. I sat at the bar and had a couple of beers, which were very good. I was excited about the barbecue, but I have to say I was not impressed. Decided to look for a place to grab a bite on our way home from a Red Sox game, Salem seemed to be a good place to go. Pulled up Google to find a Brewery and found this place. Unassuming from the parking lot but once you step inside you absolutely know the food will be good. Great atmosphere and friendly staff. While unfortunately they were sold out of some very popular choices, (the burnt ends and big beef rib), there was still plenty to choose from. We opted for the steak and cheese egg rolls and pub fries to start. The guys ordered some beer as well. We opted for the sampler to share with sides of the cornbread waffle and slaw. Portions were substantial, served three of us with extra to bring home. All was good but we favored the pulled pork and ribs the most. The sauce, get extra. It was absolutely delicious. We went to Border Brewery based on a recent review seen on Phantom Gourmet. We arrive just before 5PM on a Saturday night, thinking we'd beat the peak dining time. There were only a couple of parties ahead of us in line to be seated, and we could see 2 or 3 tables that were open. Despite that, we stood in line for nearly an hour before finally being seated. The last 15-20 minutes when we were the next to be seated, we stood there looking at 3-4 empty tables, and were told by the waitress that "it's gonna be awhile". My impression was that the two waitstaff were somewhat overwhelmed by managing the ~ 10 tables in total. Once seated, on stools with no backs, we immediately put our order in having had an hour to figure out what we wanted. Our waitress was very personable and helpful. We ordered drinks, the Jerk Chicken pizza, a full rack of ribs, and two sides, Mac and Cheese with bacon and a corn bread muffin. There were virtually no vegetable sides on the menu. Hello? Okra? Collard Greens? Green beans maybe? The pizza came out fairly quickly, in perhaps 10-15 minutes, but the presumably precooked ribs and sides didn't come out for another 20 minutes! (?) Because at that point we were very hungry we filled up on the pizza, which was small (6 small slices) but very good. Tasty, crispy crust, lots of garlic, with quality cheese. On the downside there was a very small amount of the jerk chicken. For $23 I expected a larger sized pizza with much more chicken on top. When the ribs finally arrived they were large, meaty ribs, but with very little barbecue sauce glazing or spices on them. The meat was a bit on the undercooked side, and reminded more of Chinese style ribs (less the red sauce) than any other BBQ ribs I'd ever had previously. Like most people I expect a racks of BBQ ribs to fall off the bone and melt in your mouth. If that's what you're looking for, try something else on the menu as these ribs are not that. The sides were OK but small and over priced, and looked nothing like what they showed on Phantom Gourmet. We actually heard the party next to us loudly make the same complaint! They were not happy at all with the quality of what they'd ordered. In summary, the service was very slow, the BBQ ribs were mediocre being kind, and the pizza was very good, but quite small and overpriced. If we go back it will be for takeout, not dine in, and we won't be ordering the ribs again. In terms of constructive suggestions for improvements I'd strongly suggest more/better wait staff, MUCH better table management, far better coordination of food delivery, additional vegetable sides to the menu and adding a large sized pizza to the offering. read more

Found this place by accident, and it was a happy accident. Had the "Flintstonian" Beef Rib and took some burnt ends to go. Awesome BBQ, loved the cornmeal waffles, and very good coleslaw. One minor quibble, the stools are way too short for the bar. Made for awkward eating. Didn't try any of the brews but the folks around me seemed to be enjoying them. My son and I were in the area so we Googled nearby restaurants. Plenty of choices, decided to go bbq. A cozy spot, one open space with a bar, several tables with stools and a few booths. We went booth after requested and met with what I choose to believe a humorous response; it was fine since they weren't busy. Aside from 2 couples at the bar, we were the only guests. It was about 1230p on Saturday. Chalkboard menu - If you want to see the prices, get a little closer. We didn't. Oops. What I mean by that is had I done that, I would have had a better sense of quantity. Anyhoot, our server was good stuff. He gave us the low down on the brewery sitch and a brief on how they smoke their meats on-site smokers, etc. Love it! The food - our sampler could easily feed 4. Half rack of ribs were perfect, just shy of fall off the bone with nice smoke and just flippin tasty! A drizzle of their BBQ sauce, which was bangin'. We requested purchase of the Q sauce, fulfilled. The burnt ends, yep, real deal. Some chew, smoky and burnt to caramelization glory. Pulled pork and brisket, enjoyed but you really need a vessel. We brought ours home for next day sammiches. Toss on a Brioche roll, BBQ sauce and some slaw. Yep. Bacon mac n cheese, son enjoyed it. Hint of sweet, rendered bacon and dare I note, creamy. I'm a purist so it wasn't my thing but if you're a Mac n cheese adventure seeker, it was a solid choice. Cole slaw was a hard pass. Just no flavor aside from a lil bitter, was a bit dry and lacked seasoning. While slaw is a simple side, can't please everyone. I preferred the pickled red onion and those were just a lil edible delight provided on the tray. BBQ sauce was great. Not too sweet or too hot. Just a perfect balance. Pub fries were decent, served with a pub sauce and Ketchup for dipping pleasure. You may want to dip in some Q sauce. You do you. At 12 bucks for the fries, we were expecting a higher level fry but we did like them, not the love fest you might expect at that price point. The gratis chips on the tray were good, crispy with hint of salt. They do wood fired pizzas, which we didn't sample, just to note. Went here last Friday. First thing I'll say is parking is not a problem! This is in the corner of Salem marketplace. We walked in and the gentleman behind the bar was super accommodating and polite and courteous. We sat outside with our dog since it was a nice day out. We got a brisket sandwich a few beers and a pizza! Everything was 5/5 ! I was expecting it to be good but this beat all my expectations! Friendly. Delicious. Fun. BB&B's a beer lover's Tardis: unassuming strip mall on the outside, tasty comfort food and delicious brews on the inside. As a lover of dark beers, the presence of not one, but two smooth stouts on tap in the middle of 85 degree August weather was welcoming and unique. Peanut butter stout one of the best I've tried. Maple stout like an IHOP in a glass, except one that uses real maple syrup and doesn't make you wait outside 2 hours outside on a Sunday. BBQ/good is unapologetically rich and filling: well designed to absorb copious amounts of beer BB&B's patrons may choose to consume. Alternative choices like chili and wings a welcome twist on the traditional BBQ menu. 5-6 outdoor picnic tables were nice to see in the era of COVID-19 and still spaced well enough apart to allow groups to sip their beers in modest social distance. All in all well worth the visit for food, beer, and service in a location you would least expect just north of the main commercial district on Salem. read more

Food was very average for the price. We had the platter and the ribs were not good, the pulled pork was okay but didn't live up to the hype. The beer tho.. maybe I just went on bad day but you could taste the malt separated from the carbonation. Also the outdoor patio is full with the little red arachnids. Harmless but not a place you want your kids playing or eating. Service was really good though. read more
