This may be our new go to place when we go to the east side of Wichita. Would like to give several of the pizzas and salads a try. Food was the right amount and reasonably priced. We fully understood and expected a wait with a party of 14 people -- that was never the issue. My frustration is with the inconsistent and misleading communication. I called two days in advance and spoke with two different managers, both of whom told me they do not take reservations. I was instructed to call 30 minutes before arrival so they could plan for our group. I did exactly that. When I called the day of, I was given the runaround, then told there would be no room for us for two hours, and suddenly informed that they do take reservations -- followed by an attitude about the fact that we didn't make one. That was incredibly frustrating considering we were explicitly told multiple times that reservations were not an option. It felt less like a capacity issue and more like an attempt to avoid seating a large party altogether. Clear communication and consistent policies are the bare minimum, and unfortunately Oak & Pie failed in both areas. read more

I have to start by saying that the place is adorable! Very nice seating and decor. I shared a Hawaiian pizza with a friend and it was very good! Just the right amount of pineapple and ham. The pizza itself was very undercooked. Could be their style? Either way, that is the reason behind the 4 stars. The star of the show was the mozzarella bites. They were incredible!!!! The sauce for dipping was to die for. I asked the server and he told me it was their tomato soup! Who would have thought?!?!? Amazing, and the service was nice too. No complaints there. Cool place. Local owned. EAT LOCAL !! We try to when we travel. We weren't super hungry but wanted to try this place and it was close to our hotel. Seemed as tho 12" was the only size. Weird if that is the case. For us three we each had 2 slices which was enough that moment but if you were hungry hungry you'd need to order more. The pizza was good. Ours stated it had roasted garlic ... didn't realize that was as going to be a paste/sauce. Didn't like that part. The crust was different in some way that I couldn't figure out. The aromas of wood-fired pizza crust wafted throughout, that double-zero flour with a slight char scent. I knew what was going to happen next, and after sampling a local brew (Walnut River, yay!), we ordered up a shareable Oni Oni Pepperoni and waited impatiently until that pie arrived. We had one in our party of three who wished for something different and that wish was granted with a meatball sammich straight from the oven (scorching hot and super fresh). Hey, he missed out on pizza but those meatballs are straight fire! The pizza is amazing! The Oni Oni is lathered with the 'pie sauce', ample mozz, and big slices of pepperoni. I mean, if you're trying out a pizza, why not do a basic topping? It's the crust that makes Oak & Pie stand out, made in house and cooked at temperatures that are likely just shy of the sun's surface. It takes some amazing customer service, ambience, and food/drink options to earn all 5 stars... oak pie delivered it all. We were greeted the second we walked in, seated and welcomed by our server within 1 minute. Another person came by to offer her assistance if we weren't completely satisfied and another server, who brought our wine, also offered her assistance. A dairy free version of an Italian sandwich was offered up, along with a side salad and my friends enjoyed pizza and another tasty sandwich. I have known this restaurant group to be one of the best in town. I came in with my family and was severely disappointed with our experience. The bar was not busy at all, yet as we sat down ( party of three), there was a group next to us of 3 and no one else. The restaurant was maybe 65 percent full at dinner service on a Friday night, and it took 20 minutes before we had our drinks. The bartender on the night was getting help from the manager and another server, which isn't a concern, but the glassware evident, and the lack of business in the store made it concerning. The bartender struggled to pour a beer, and then had to wait for the dish cycle to run before I could get my beer. He seemed incredibly overwhelmed with a small amount of guests, but the situation was not set up for his success either. The food was okay, we were served without silverware, and the bartender didn't bother to take a food order when we finally got approached for a drink order. The food alone would have resulted in a 4 star, but the service, the lack of glassware, and the lack of attentiveness was evident. I will continue to send people here, as I know this must have been an anomaly of the evening, but I was left beyond underwhelmed. The service was incredible. Very attentive, kind, and made the visit very welcoming. We sat outside, and got to enjoy the beautiful weather with some good food. I like the patio portion of the place! I've had one horrible experience- one great experience and one just ok experience and I won't be back. .. the pizza is probably the best thing on the menu. Surprisingly the mushroom pizza is absolutely delicious but I didn't care for the wings and I had a bad experience with the chicken Parmesan. The bottom was completely burnt. The noodles were hard. The chocolate martini was not shaken well, and it almost tasted like chocolate syrup was drizzled in a glass, and then pure alcohol poured inside. I had a special birthday dinner and I called in to see what they do for birthdays. I was told a complementary cookie dessert would be provided but when I told the hostess she texted me and asked when she add that to my bill and bring it out. Unprofessional staff to be honest. First off the decor and interior is beautiful. The lighting shines exactly where it needs to and the contrasting brick and black woods make a nice modern/rustic background. The food is delicious and well priced my wife and I got the margarita pizza and shrimp carbonara and I was beyond satisfied with what we received. The service was the best part of the night. Servers and managers were friendly and helpful and made me feel like I got my money's worth. My wife and I were out of town and we even received a complimentary dessert, The Berries and Cream special, which was also very delicious. Last thing their drinks are stellar just to top it off. If you are visiting Wichita I would highly recommend Oak and Pie, great food, great prices, great service. Simon was my server he deserves a raise.
