Wonderful experience. My dad and I wanted to take a day and get out of the city so did a Hill Country tour starting here. It is the epitome of a welcoming old school diner. It was quiet, we were greeted right away. Everyone working there worked together and were so friendly. We got the BLT and it was everything you could hope for. Salty flavorful bacon fresh tomatoes and fantastic thick chewy toasted bread. The banana pudding was not to be missed! Oak Creek Cafe is the definition of a traditional greasy spoon. The decor is definitely older, rustic, shabby-chic, kind of. It's like being in someone's older home. Holy poo is the food good! I liked this little brunch place! My mom and I stopped here on the way to lost maples for brunch, and it was pretty good! I had a burrito that was MASSIVE and she had a few breakfast tacos. We both left full. The interior is very hill country/low key, and the staff are friendly. I think it was like $20 for everything so pretty reasonable prices, and they have a nice big parking lot. Bathrooms were fine, clean enough but nothing to rush home about. Would certainly drop by again if passing the area :) read more

I came to this establishment in December of last year with my companion after a short staycation in Dripping Springs. We came here as we wanted to support local and to get something close to where we were staying. When we walked, we waited to be seated on what appeared to be an extremely busy Saturday morning. We ordered one menu item each. My companion ordered breakfast tacos, and I ordered migas. Migas: Migas are fairly simple to make. Migas are a simple Mexican egg dish that consists of strips of corn tortillas (NOT tortilla chips) pan fried till just barely crisp, and then flooded with whipped egg and bright spices and quickly cooked together. At least that's what I thought it was....what I got was eggs with cold cheese that came from a bag unmelted on top of the eggs. A side tortilla that was out of a bag, not warmed, canned refried beans, and undercooked cubed potatoes. It was inedible. I am not sure if this was a one-off, but my companion's taco was also made with a bagged tortilla and topped with the same cold bagged cheese that I received on my plate. The service we received when here was pleasant, but the food was as previously noted inedible. While I love supporting local businesses, this is one establishment that makes it difficult for me to do. read more

This is still a favorite in Dripping Springs. It's owned by a local family, and they are always on site working. It's an old-style cafe with basic, simple food that's done well. Service is usually quick, although you may have a bit of a wait if they're really busy, but it's always friendly. I really enjoy their breakfast. Their biscuits are outstanding, although the sausage gravy would be better with more sausage in it, but that's easy to remedy by ordering a side of sausage. I also love their fried catfish! They have daily lunch specials, but if there's one you want, be sure to get there early because they sometimes sell out. Prices on all of their menu items are pretty reasonable. If you live here or are passing through, it's worth a stop! read more

Located near Dripping Springs High-school on the west side of Dripping Springs off 290. Plenty of parking especially if you have a truck/suv. This cute place we found for brunch recently. The chicken fried chicken I had was absolutely delicious, and my partner tried the chicken fried steak which was also great. Our server was wonderful, and the restaurant has a cool old-school vibe with classic restaurant. The environment was very clean, but the only downside was the lack of music in the dining area. Oak Creek Cafe used to be our go to for a catfish dinner. Our recent visit left us disappointed. Their menu and prices don't come close to matching what their website menu displays. The catfish filets were a lot smaller and only 2 along with a higher price tag. Per the website menu, they offered 3 filets with a lower price. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived. Only 2 other tables being occupied. When we left, we were the last ones. During that time, the floor could have been swept and tables wiped down. The floor had a lot that needed to be swept. The men's restroom did not have soap. When a restaurant has very few customers, that is a good time to get minor clean up done. We would have enjoyed our meal more if the restaurant was clean inside. After we had been there for 15 minutes, we saw three roaches crawling on the wall next to the kitchen. We made comment to a waitress and she got a paper towel and got one of them off the wall and didn't say anything. I asked the manager to call and that never happened. If there are roaches freely, crawling around where the people are moving around then you can sadly imagine what is happening in the kitchen with critters. Not a healthy place to eat. read more

Tried the Friday catfish today with Cole slaw fries and puppies, all delicious Finished with the chocolate pie just like my mom use to make it, delicious and so big I took half home for later. Upon the recommendation of the front desk at our hotel we went to Oak Creek Cafe for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The reviews of the restaurant were overall very good and when we arrived the restaurant was packed and we had a slight waiting time before our table was ready, all indicators that we are going to have a very good breakfast. Sadly this was not the case. I ordered the "Country Skillet" with the "Texas Toast" while my cousin ordered the same thing with the biscuit. When I think of Texas Toast I think of a thick slice of bread but what came out was just regular toast. The breakfast itself was ok not to much flavor. I had the shrimp and catfish dinner. The shrimp they served with the dinner or jumbo shrimp. Usually you get little bitty shrimp but these were very nice and the catfish fillets were good sized slso. My sides were pinto beans and coleslaw. The pinto beans were seasoned perfectly. Coleslaw was delicious. I really liked the shrimp cocktail sauce because it had a lot of horseradish in it and the tartar sauce was homemade and very, very good. My husband had the catfish with onion rings and pinto beans. He loved the breading on the catfish it was crispy fried and the onion rings were lightly battered and not greasy. It was a delicious dinner and the wait staff were so nice and attentive. Wow! Our local Cafe is awesome! The friendly waitstaff was so attentive and helpful. I went for The Texan, 1/2 lb burger with l the fixens! The fries were hot and crispy, the burger cooked to perfection as requested. I'm glad I opted for no bun, I had room to finish everything on my plate. My husband enjoyed the catfish dinner. He compared it to the catfish we get in Arkansas, Mississippi and Alabama. He said it passed with flying colors, definitely a win. We will be returning sooner than later. read more

What a pleasant surprise this little café is! It's located in Dripping Springs Texas right off 290. It has seating for about 30-40 people inside with some patio seating as well. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner most days, but on the weekends they close by three. If you get there early when they open at 7 AM they have an amazing breakfast selection that they serve until 10:30 AM. We tried their lunch special which was chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and green beans and it was excellent. We also tried the basic blt burger, and the corn dog - both of which were also very tasty. The wait staff is courteous and friendly. We are definitely coming back. The meals were very inexpensive compared to the quantities. So if you are inclined, give it a try. I think you'll enjoy it. read more

If you like catfish...you will love this place. Lots of good food but that's our favorite. Good size dishes. Great service is fast and attentive. Nice down home place with lots of history in caricatures on walls and memorabilia. We tried the catfish and shrimp dinner this time to our delight. I picked my girlfriend up for lunch and we were actually headed somewhere else, but that place was closed, so we hopped on maps and found this café and decided to give it a shot. When we arrived, we did not know what to expect, which is typical from an old building style café. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted and told that we can sit wherever we please. We ordered quickly and the food came out absolutely delicious. We ordered loaded fries, chicken fried chicken, and my girlfriend had a grilled chicken breast. To be honest I think that was the best chicken fried chicken I've ever had and I had to let my girlfriend know it gave her CFC a run for it's money!
