I've been craving a shrimp boil since it's probably been like over a year since I've had one, so I was definitely looking for a good enough place that'll make up for lost time and this place - SERVED. I don't usually leave reviews. It's not my thing, because I feel like everyone has bad days. That being said, I've been to this place twice now. The first time, the crawfish was good, a bit overcooked. It happens. I figured I'd come back another time and it would probably be fine. No big deal--everything else was great, and the service was good. Today I came back. The place was pretty full, which is usually a good sign. I picked an open picnic table literally about five feet from other people who were eating. There was a menu on the table and a napkin holder with the drink menu on it. The first server (very nice, very pleasant guy) politely asked me to move because they don't serve that table. I said no problem, even though the menus were right there. He personally walked me to another table and took my order. Then another guy (not nice at all) walked up and told me I had to move again. At that point, I just got up and left. I really wanted to give this place another chance because it's on my weekend route. But I felt disrespected, and it honestly pissed me off enough that I'm writing this review. I'm sure the food is great--I'm not knocking that. But the second server needs a job outside of the people business. The one star is for him. read more

As we pulled up to West Henly Boil Shack, it gave me vibes from the movie, Roadhouse. Although there was no Patrick Swayze lookalike to tell us to be nice, we managed to behave ourselves anyway. I went with the double pork chop, which looked the part, but unfortunately was overcooked and dry. The red beans and rice were a good choice for a side. Wifey took on the shrimp poorboy, and was pleased with her choice. The half order of onion rings was good enough to hold us off for the main course. The waitstaff was friendly and kept our drinks filled. There is an outdoor area with tables that was filled with the locals. Everyone was dressed very casual as I assume they just finished working a long week and were chilling for the rest of the day. Most probably did not mind driving up the unpaved road and parking in the raw parking lot. It was a bit dusty driving in with a clean truck, but once you commit thru the entrance, there is no avoiding it. But then again, paving would be like putting an elevator in an outhouse....It doesn't belong. read more

The atmosphere is lovely and the food, as you can see in the pics, was amazing! The service was on point and the young man was super friendly. We went on a Sunday around 3 and it was pretty busy. Food was super good. The fried pickles were a great portion size for the price. This was the half order. The Cajun dog was amazing as well. It's a quality local sausage in a high quality toasted bun. The fries that came on the side were delicious as well. The restaurant is a super cool set up, it looks like your on bayou. Cute little food hall right outside of Dripping Springs about 15min past Dreamland west on 290. Decor is rustic and a mix of hole in the wall beer joint decor. Young waitstaff that is friendly. COLD beers. There is a large outdoor area for kids to run wild. Smaller inside that is cooler than sitting outside but the ac is not blasting in here (something to consider on HOT texas summer days). We were craving some gulf oysters and cajun food. It was towards the end of crawfish season. Gulf oysters 8/10. Really good. I love my oysters served SUPER cold. It was on a ice try so it was cold.. just not super cold. Not a deal breaker. The freshness was like eating fresh gulf oysters at Acme in NOLA. Fried pickles 8/10, Good to split with some beers. Crawfish 8/10. We are by all means NOT experts for crawfish. It was very flavorful, not mushy, enough meat to fill my hubs belly. Corn and potatoes not over cooked. Beers 10/10. Ice cold and a nice selection without breaking the bank. We'e come back! You should visit! We are looking forward to coming here in the fall for beers and a chill time once mother nature in TX cools a bit. read more

This was my first time coming here and I probably won't be back. I ordered a crawfish boil and waited over 50 minutes for it- as other tables who got here after us got their food before us. I'm very disappointed as they also forgot one of our meals and never replaced it after we asked twice. The outdoor setting during the Spring time is hard to beat at this Cajun styled restaurant. The seafood is quite good as well. The crawfish boudin balls are a must as an appetizer. Plump and crispy balls of crawfish stuffing. Super tasty. The fried shrimp is excellent as well. Plump and lightly battered with a very nice flavor. We've been coming to the Boil Shack since they first opened, but unfortunately they seem to have lost their way after the untimely passing of their founder. Three different servers played tag team with our table, with none taking any particular interest. Food came out really late, with the appetizer arriving just after our main dishes. Fried green tomatoes were overcooked and underwhelming. Even the deep-fried shrimp, usually our favorite, was smaller than it used to be - and the tiny little crawfish tails were fried to a crisp. Menu has about twice as many items as it used to - but seems to be a case of jack of all trades, master of none. read more

Little shack off of 290, good parking and was excited about a good crawfish boil. People at the bar were nice, ordered a crawfish queso and the large boil that has crawfish, shrimp and sausage. The appetizer came out at the same time as the boil, young man stated it was due to two kitchens. The queso was awesome, the boil-not so much. It was only warm, which tells me they have it sitting in water (I'll wait 10 minutes for a fresh boil), the was NO seasoning on anything. We had to salt the corn and potatoes just to eat them. No seasoning on the shrimp or sausage. Don't know how or what they use for a boil mix but did not enjoy it. I hardly rate any place this low but I could not in good conscience recommend it to anyone. All the tables were dirty upon arriving, took 15 minutes until someone came to bring a menu/drink order, and another 15 minutes to receive the drinks. We ordered the loaded queso fries as an appetizer, the fries were cold and chewy like they had been sitting a long time. We both ordered the fried catfish, my boyfriends came out cold and mine had hardly any fish in it. It was 90% chewy breading and 10% catfish. While there we witnessed a server spill a drink on a customer and clean the bar before getting her anything to clean herself up with, a family walk in and the bartender tell them there's no tables as there were MANY tables open just dirty, and other waiting at least 30 minutes before even being acknowledged. The ONLY person that was keeping that place afloat was the food runner who was managing to do everything. We will never be back read more

What a gem! Found this spot on the way back from a FBurg vacay several months back at the very end of crawfish season. The crawfish were wonderful...as were all the other bites we tried. Great red beans and rice, perfect boudin, the jambalaya was so good we got two extra orders to take care. They offer burgers, sandies, and others during "off season."
