Called them today, looking for a venue to host a Sunday Brunch. The owner informed me they don't host events any longer :(

The Malibu Retreat - The Malibu Retreat - Mod House Twin room

My family planned a last minute getaway. My son had been taking swimming lessons so we wanted to…read morefind a place with a pool close to home. We stumbled upon the Malibu retreat. It looked perfect due to its saltwater pool and gorgeous photos online. There were so many great reviews...what could go wrong? We booked the guest house as some of the other options that were less pricey did not have pool access according to one of the owners. So we paid the extra couple hundred for the pool. We arrive and all seemed as described in the guest house. Within the first hour my daughter was crawling anround and picked up a cigarette that was on the floor just under the couch. No big deal. We unpack and head to the pool... The pool was green, smelled, and was cloudy (nothing like the photos online). I message right away and get a text back indicating the levels were tested that day and were fine. Hmm. At this point I didn't know what we could do other than make the best of it. We decide to make some food as we were told the kitchenette included a convection oven. Nope nothing but a microwave. So we order take out instead $$. My son wanted to roast marshmallows bc I told him there was a fire pit outdoors. We head over and it's filled with leaves. This was also the case with the outdoor bbq. Not a big deal but we didn't spend the money to clean the amenities, and we were worried about the smoke if we left the leaves. On our last day my son opens a little decorative box in the living room to find a green rotten string cheese yikes! It is important to note the guest house has sliding glass doors at the entrance of the guest house. Directly in front is where guests of the main house will park. Our view was of 5 cars and there was a lot of activity so we had to keep curtains shut the entire time. FYI- There is no sink for washing dishes or baby bottles. We had to make do with the bathroom sink. Once returned I let them know how the stay was and I was told they found out the pool had been clogged and they were out of the country. They offered a discount next time which was appreciated but I honestly feel we should have been compensated. I sent a text and emailed my thoughts but am getting no response. They were quick to respond when it came to booking and taking my 500$ deposit. I'm so bummed about this experience because it is a beautiful place if it were maintained and if the pool were safe to put the kids in. Last photo is of us making the most of it on the rock :)

The building is three stories, I believe and each room has balcony access. I got an oceanfront room. The view from the balcony is absolutely stunning! The best part of my stay was the breakfast room service where I got an omelette, potatoes, steel cut oatmeal and fruit juices. I ate outside to the stunning ocean views and crisp sunny beach weather. Each room is very cozy and has an electric fireplace. Since I went at the end of April, I definitely used the fireplace at night. I ordered a large baked chocolate chip cookie à la mode in the evening before bed and ate it in front of the cozy fireplace. Another impressive feature was the heated Toto toilet in the restroom. I'm normally grossed out by hotel toilets but this fancy toilet made the toilet inviting and attractive. The toilet was sensor flush and you could use it as a bidet too I think, though I didn't use it that way. The bed was very comfortable and the shower had many settings that made it feel like a spa shower where the jets were able to hit different parts of your body like a jacuzzi massage feature. The reason I'm giving four stars is for the cleanliness of the restroom. The room was nearly $1000 a night so I expected the whole room, including the restroom to be spotless. However, there was some leftover hair in the sink and shower from the previous occupant. That really grossed me out and affected my general impression of the place. Hopefully they will improve their house keeping maintenance so I can change my rating to five stars. Overall, it was a great staycation however.

Although I recommend this business based on its location, atmosphere, this critique is directed…read moretowards the restaurant. This hotel charges anywhere from 600 to over $1000 a night so it is not in a class of Hotel where you expect them to skimp on the food. However, the bakery goods they serve are brought in from somewhere else, not prepared on site, and refrigerated so when you have a chocolate croissant, you have the choice of having them bake it, which turns into melted chocolate or not warmed, which makes it taste like rubber. While this is somewhat of a petty complaint there are just certain things you expect of hotels that cater to people who can pay anywhere from 600 to a couple thousand dollars a night and you expect that certain things are in line with that degree of expense. However, in this case, not only the croissants, but the food and menu is somewhat marginal and clearly they are in need of someone new overseeing the kitchen Also, when I did ask for the manager, someone introduced himself as a person who was on duty not necessarily the manager in the response I got is something that I really dislike. The response is that we've been doing this for years. Having refrigerated bakery goods is not something they should be doing for years at this type of restaurant. This is one thing that really needs to be changed if I want refrigerated, croissants, or pastries I I can go to Ralph's or Vons or a grocery store. Frankly, even a donut shop has better bakery goods than this hotel.

The picture I saw were very interesting, so I showed my kids. We agreed to give this place a try, as we usually stick to hotels and motels when we visit LA. All I can say is WOW!! They even gave my kids toys from the toy barrel they have in the office! If you have kids, travel with your pets, and are into adventure ( and want something way more fun than a motel) I would give this place a try! We loved it and plan on coming back!

Found this place when we were displaced in the Woolsey Fire evacuation. Honestly, I was amazed…read morethat anything here was available, being pet friendly and very reasonably priced and in a most accessible location between Calabasas and Woodland Hills. We stayed for 4 nights with 2 Tibetan Spaniels. My overall impression is that this is an Airbnb that was ahead of it's time. It's too boutique and not meant to compete with the large chains. Compared with Airbnbs, I would rate this a 4-5; compared to pet friendly motel/hotel chains, I would rate this a 2-3 as there is no daily housekeeping or onsite services. Cheri is very helpful and accommodating. The décor in the Loft unit is entertainment industry, with memorabilia of singers and entertainers. She has strict house rules and procedures to self check-in/check-out, which are on par with Airbnbs. The Loft and Hacienda units have private and safe outdoor areas for pets, with drought landscaping. Cheri has a dog, to be sure, and she is very pet loving, but this is a pet friendly 'hotel' and if Cheri's dog isn't barking, other dogs might be if at all. If some of the other reviewers expected onsite concierge, housekeeping that's a phone call away, they should have looked elsewhere and quite frankly, their reviews reveal this mismatch. It's unfair and a disservice to blame a provider for a client's missed expectations. The only issue I had was that you can hear everything said or done in the other unit. I'm not sure this is because the door adjoining the two units (Hacienda and Loft) was a single door on top of a tile floor, but it was an annoyance. Everything else is Airbnb standard, such as the refrigerator, microwave, toaster, K-cup and drip coffee makers, hot plate, tableware and silverware, TV and free wifi. The keypad locks would be wifi-enabled in some Airbnbs, however, and this isn't a tech haven overloaded with digital cameras. Great privacy, good on street parking, awesome location, attentive host, and the pet friendliness is a bonus! I will return if I need a pet friendly hotel in the Valley. I would feel safe leaving my pets in my bungalow/cottage without me, as there wouldn't be any housekeeping or other onsite staff opening the door on them. Think Airbnb and not chain motel/hotel.

Then arrived on site to a massive renovation happening next door. I called him to ask him to please refund since he was not honest about the situation and he told me to stay on site a night and we'd deal with it the next day, to which I said no. He then wrote a very nasty and misleading review on Airbnb about my stay even though I was only onsite 15 mins. AVOID! These are scammers only interested in making money, not honoring the guest. Here is proof he was lying: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1T3rjUNGn09JdJyrSXdBb75g3CTCHlWZ0?usp=sharing Also he wrote this nasty review on my airbnb (which is the only bad one out of 30) and it just shows what a misleading and disgusting person he is: We were disappointed with our experience hosting V. Throughout her stay, she expressed dissatisfaction with the property and, unfortunately, made repeated threats to leave a negative review. V mentioned that the scent of cleaning products was too strong, but we explained that we prioritize sanitization between each guest to ensure a safe and clean environment. This has never been an issue for previous guests. Additionally, she mentioned construction next door. We personally checked the property earlier in the day, and there was no active construction at the time. While it's possible the neighbors were doing light work, there was no disruption during her stay. Despite our best efforts to accommodate V and address her concerns, she continued to insist on a full refund and threatened a bad review. We ultimately had to reach out to Airbnb for assistance due to the ongoing threats. We always strive to provide a positive experience for our guests and are sorry that this stay did not meet her expectations.
