Over a couple of visits, I've been impressed with their selection that goes beyond heavy malts and nuclear IPAs. It's a good variety with a few of my favorites, like the English Special Bitter. As atmosphere goes, Oak Highlands follows closely to the standard formula - a brewery, a bar out front, friendly pourers, and whatever version of chex mix type snack seems right for today. My only complaint was a generally loud noise volume. I realize the acoustics aren't great in many of these places, but on my last visit a band was practicing across the wall. I heard they had a private party scheduled in the actual brewery, so this was either band practice or a 45 minute sound check. Don't get me wrong, I like bands and parties, but I also like to be able to hear some of what my tablemates are saying. Food trucks often show up, and let me offer a suggestion about that. If they would put up a food truck schedule on the website, it would bring me in a couple of times a month instead of a couple of times a year. read more

Beer was Good and the BBQ was Fantastic. It's not part of the Brewery, Guy sells out of the Back of his truck but some of the BEST Potato Salad I've ever eaten. It would get a better rating from me if the Reception wasn't so chilly from the Guy behind the Bar but thinking that may have to do with the fact that he knows quite a few "regulars" there. They got a very welcomed reception with a smile. I get it as I get the same welcoming reception at a local establishment in Allen where I'm a "regular". My wife really enjoyed the place so we will probably return again another time especially if they have LIVE Music or other Special Events. read more

Nice little brewery with big beer selections. I love how they have a large selection of IPAs most brewery's try to limit to one. This will be my 3rd time here and I've noticed there's more parents with children at this brewery then the others so I would say definitely kid friendly. Great part is 4 min from Lakewood brewery so you can check out both on the same day. I didn't see any tours on Saturday morning so maybe it's special events only. read more

Cool brewery with lots of different beers! They have a very large party room that is inside with games, ping pong, corn hole etc. When the weather is nice the large door is open so the inside gets a nice breeze. Dog friendly as well! read more

So many great things to say about OHB - great beer, great staff and a great location. A recent family night proved that these guys can pull a very solid crowd. Tokens are purchased at the door for $5 Each (non Saturday) to redeem for a beer. My favorites continue to be the DF Dub and Allgood, the latter being a crisp saison. Saturdays (at least one I visited) offers up three tokens and a pint glass (to keep) for $15. Check the OHB website for updated offers and other specials (live music and food trucks are common). We've been here for a few events and concerts and love this place. Beer is great and it's as family-friendly as a brewery can be.

A couple of outstanding beers. The rest are meh. Tap room is super cool, but the hours are short. Hidden in an industrial park. Food not always available. Staff friendly-ish. Freaky Deaky is my favorite Trippel right now. Aged in white wine barrels is freakin awesome. Other beers not bad, but nothing else worth a special trip. read more

First and foremost, I'm a huge fan of OHB's beer - if I see their Golden Mustache or Freaky Deaky in the store, chances are it's coming home with me. What I'm not a fan of, however, is their brewery. I'm not sure if this is going to become a burgeoning trend, but I've never visited a brewery that apparently also doubles as a playground. For the ~2 hours or so that we were there, we couldn't finish a game of cornhole or much else because of unattended children running wild throughout the place. Don't get me wrong I think it's a great concept to be more family friendly - not only does it help your business grow, but it also creates a greater sense of community by being welcoming to everyone. That said, there has to be some level of accountability in place on behalf of both the establishment and the customer to make it work and not ruin the experience for other customers. Aside from that, my biggest problem was the overall arrogance and bad attitudes of the guys behind the bar. I might've tolerated the whole "elitist" thing ten years ago, but breweries are a dime a dozen these days. In fact, it's become mainstream to the point that I can go to my neighborhood big box store and pick up a six pack from more than a few DFW breweries. Needless to say I didn't get it, but there's a lot of much cooler breweries and taprooms in the area that I can go and spend my time and money so it is what it is. Definitely won't be coming back. 2/5 only because their beers are on point. read more

Super friendly and helpful Taproom staff. Their award winning craft beers, pair extremely well with the different food trucks that are available on Saturday's. Groovy vibe. Pet friendly is a PLUS. Scheduled events Thurs-Sat on a monthly basis. Family Nites are huge and scheduled monthly. Live music, brewery tours, homebrew pilot system, and they work with many charity groups throughout the Metroplex. Great place and worth a visit. Bring your spouse, significant other, and your dog and make OHB your newest hangout! read more

Pretty cool little brewery tucked away in an industrial park. Dog friendly, kid friendly, and lots of games to keep you entertained. We really enjoyed spending the afternoon there and the food truck provided a nice BBQ snack. Really friendly staff and lots of brew options. The bourbon barrel aged Chump Change is a must try. There weren't many places to sit, so I imagine on a busy afternoon or evening there are lots of people standing. We definitely will make the drive across town to spend more time here. read more

If you like a playground for kids where you can pretend you aren't a parent, this is your place. But that's pretty much everything in LH. Beer is sub par, service is meh unless you're a frat or sorority alumni. If your idea of a bar is that, you're in the right spot. It's basic as hell. 2nd visit, won't be back, and I live 7 min. away. I indulge too much in beer and going to breweries. My date and I were here for a Brew Haha show. For those of you who aren't familiar with Brew Haha, it's a comedy series that partners with breweries and for around 20-25 bucks, you get a comedy show, 3 beers and a cool pint glass. Oak Highlands had about 7 beers on tap and I managed to sample 3 surprisingly, without dying. The guys behind the bar were awesome. The Freaky Deaky Belgium trippel is pure magical evil in a glass at 10%. I have no idea how I was still standing the rest of the evening. The Derelict IPA was freaking fantastic and the Golden Mustache was tasty but not my favorite. Very Individual Pizza (VIP) was the food truck that was camped outside of the brewery and that was an incredibly helpful plus because my date and I had both skipped out on dinner. When we walked in, there was also a station for board games and giant Jenga. Apparently there's also corn hole somewhere as well... Great beer, good food, and good company. Can't really ask for more on a Thursday night. read more

Came here last Saturday to use a groupon. Arrived around 12:15 so shortly after they opened so it wasn't crowded. Had the all good and the mustache one so both lighter beers and very good. It's dog friendly even in the AC area so that is very cool. There is also a separate room where the games are (corn hole, play station, foosball) along with the brewing/canning equipment. This area was a bit stuffy as not a lot of air back there but tolerable. Started getting pretty filled up around 2. There was also a guy selling bbq outside and that was very tasty! New to the area. Just visited OHB this Saturday for a friend's birthday. What a nice clean facility! Beer is good, for sure. I love the Belgian ale I had. Pale Ale was good (just moved from CA so hard to compare with Lagunitas and Drakes). I appreciated the diversity of beer types. I'll be back to try them all. LOVE having this place in the neighborhood. Tucked away in an industrial strip mall. Lots of space & games (see photos) to be able to hang out over a beer or two. Seems family friendly, too - plenty of room for kids & pets. Only two things holding it back from being 5 stars: 1) wish the hours were better (i.e., open later on Friday and Saturday); and 2) wish there was some kind of food option close by. This is my favorite local brewery on Dallas. Their beers are on point and the brewery itself is cool. Plus the people are awesome.

Really cool new brewery! I'd only started seeing some of their beers pop up in stores a few months ago, and so my wife and I decided to head over and check them out. First things first: dog friendly!! YAY!! bring your furry friends. Second: Spacious, with some games and entertainment, but mostly a large open space with plenty of parking spots and a food truck (in our case, absolutely divine BBQ from a smoker) outside (also, some seating outside as well). We hung out by the bar, chatted with many friendly people who were there as well as the bartenders who were happy to let us taste stuff. The flight was for $8 and gave us a good taste of the different brews, although they had around 13 brews so trying them all would have gotten us drunk. Everything we tasted, from the staples to the special editions and seasonals, was fantastic, their bourbon barrel aged beer was great, their blueberry was not overwhelmingly fruity but quite enjoyable. Overall, we had a great time and enjoyed the beer! Definitely worth checking out and having their brews! read more
