My mom and I live on opposite sides of the state so we met in Jackson to hang out. This restaurant was a perfect place to get some food and catch up. It was quiet and cozy, with a few tables and a bar. I was surprised that the cooking happens right out in the open, but at least you can see exactly what's happening. I don't eat flour or sugar so I was excited to get a stuffed baked potato for lunch, and I especially liked that I could customize it by getting the buffalo chicken and the veggies. To make things easy the Oak Tree Lounge is on Oak street. I personally like the place. The folks that hang here are fun and easy to talk to. Then there's my friend's stuffed baked potato which was incredible. I bet I ate half. The burgers are a solid choice, too. I settled on a cheeseburger and rings. All great...especially for a lounge. While I've never really seen food come out in partials quite like they do, maybe they were busy and/or understaffed. At first, only one of our entrees came out, it was then five minutes before two more were served. Finally, after ten minutes all five had arrived. Ten minutes seems like an eternity to wait when you're looking at your buddy carving up his dinner. Other than that, there's outdoor seating. Shade. Hootch. And a wonderful wait staff! My 1st visit. I had the cowboy roast beef with the Cajun fries. It was fantastic! My buddy had some type of chicken sandwich with truffle fries. He could not say enough positive things about it. Our waitress was great. She gave great suggestions and outstanding service. From the outside, you may scratch your head about going in, but they had indoor and outside seating and it was clean and comfortable. This place is a hidden gem! Seems like a local hangout with great food, it's very small and tucked away on a residential street. The food was AMAZING! I had the voodoo chicken sandwich with truffle fries and it was delicious. The truffle fries come with a molasses mayo and I would eat those every day if I could. Literally, some of the best service I've ever experienced including the FRIENDLIEST staff. We were first timers and they recommended their burgers and salads, along with their fish fry specials. My eyes went to the soup and they were sweet enough to let me sample a few and even mentioned a soup flight as an option! The seafood chowder was bomb. Savory with a little sweetness and hearty for a winter night. Big honorable mention to the white chicken chili which was creamy and packed with flavor. I ordered the Voodoo chicken sandwich which comes on a homemade onion bun (all their bread sourced from a nearby bakery). It had grilled chicken smothered in hot sauce and it was good...but I'd be interested in trying something new. Honorable mention to the burger and the Reuben. Their corned beef looked top notch and I was envious of a friend's order. Again, stellar service! They have probably 10-12 tables and seem to do a solid amount of to-go orders as well. Cozy place in a residential area. Very nice outdoor seating. Lots of regulars that the bartenders knew but I felt very welcomed as it was my first time there. Inside has about 10 small tables and the bar has 6 stools. Staff was friendly. The grill is right there behind the bar. Good selection on the menu. I had the half pound burger with olives and cheese. It was not cooked to medium rare as requested but it was good. Decent prices and good quality. Safe area with its own parking lot. Worth going a little out of the way. read more

My husband and I are from Jackson MI and always loved the oak tree. It's an understated restaurant with great food, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere. Their outdoor patio is a great place to relax and enjoy a cocktail while listening to some live music. We make sure to stop here whenever we're back in the area. I love this place. It's a place I always make time to eat at when I'm visiting Michigan. I have a goal of trying every sandwich on their menu. We are new to the area and were looking to check out a local spot and decided to stop on here for lunch on Saturday. Wasn't very busy which was good for us! But they did seem to only have one server who was working inside and outside, but she did a good job of handling the tables. We never felt like we were waiting forever. Started with the truffle fries--- highly recommend! They were clearly homemade and their dipping sauce is amazing! I had a ham and cheese sandwich and my husband had the BBQ pizza. Went here based on Yelp reviews. It was ok. It is definitely out of the way, like we wondered if we were lost but looked left in a largely residential neighborhood and there it was. It is packed out at 4:30. Dining room is tiny, so be prepared to wait. In the summer there is a great patio. Everyone is hopping but service is slow, go when you aren't in a hurry. We ordered the truffle fries, hubs got a sandwich and i did one of the giant potatoes filled with mushrooms, onions and beef covered in cheese. Truffle fries came with the food vs starter and they were burnt, super salty and I didn't taste much truffle oil. For $10 you get like 8 potato wedges. So not worth it. My husband loved his sandwich even though he got the wrong cheese on his ham and swiss. He got cheddar. After waiting 20 minutes for food he didn't care. My potato was ok. Nothing more to say other than it is big. Overall it was ok. Won't probably go out of the way to go there if for some reason we find ourselves in Jackson again. read more

Yelp never lets me down. I've used it hundreds of times to find new places to eat. Today I found Oak Tree. When I got there, I was impressed with the outdoor venue. The paper menu was old and dirty, and started out with a bad impression. And then all I could smell was fryer grease. The kitchen vent is right next to the outdoor seating area. It appeared only one waitress was working and I gave her plenty of slack. Beer was good and prompt, at least the first one. Waited 25 minutes to be asked for a refill. Once the food order was in, two simple dishes, It was a 55 minute wait. I had asked for my burger medium. When it was served I realized what took so long...a very well done burger. I dare not ask for a replacement, as it took so long the first time. Overall, the waitress was trying her best. The food was mediocre, the environment was cool, the service was sub par. The cook and the waitress served us burnt to a crisp truffle fries. The fries were obviously burnt. Definitely a local spot. Dive bar with outdoor patio and band. Decent band that played easy listening music. I ordered Jack and Coke 1st round Jack 2nd round it tasted more like Ten High. Waitress was very nice except for serving the burnt fries. 4 stars for the food. 5 stars for the ambiance. I'm a Jackson native who moved away at 18 and only came back in the last year. I'd never been to Oak Tree, but it's definitely one of the best bars in my bar hop rotation now. It's all standard pub food, but with an additional je ne sais quoi; there's this ineffable quality to the basics that just make them stand out. The cheese sticks just feel a bit plumper with cheese and are topped with Parmesan cheese flecks. They have novelty stuffed potato meals that are, for all intents and purposes, a potato bowl for burger casserole, but it's still damn good. Their veggie burger has this good pesto sauce that worked for me. The food is really, really good. What puts this place over the top is its charm. The interior is small, intimate, and filled with '70s-'80s cabin-y wood. It's the kind of place where a guy might just get up and goad everyone to sing happy birthday to a girl at the bar after overhearing it was her special day. It's definitely a must for townies and travelers alike. read more
