We found this gem unexpectedly looking for a place to dine while passing through the area. We were very happily surprised and pleased at the hospitality and food quality of our meals. We all shared the truffle fries. The seasoning was good, a hint of garlic and salt but not overdone to take away from the truffle. The Turkey Ruben was on a pretzel bun and fresh. It is paired with cottage cheese and cole slaw. The slaw is on the sweeter side. It was a refreshing complement to the turkey. The blue cheese burger was prepared medium well and also fresh. Nice lil bar in a residential area. My first thought, WTF, then once I saw this place, pleasantly surprised. Burger was really good and handmade chips were yummy. 4 stars for the food. 5 stars for the ambiance. I'm a Jackson native who moved away at 18 and only came back in the last year. I'd never been to Oak Tree, but it's definitely one of the best bars in my bar hop rotation now. It's all standard pub food, but with an additional je ne sais quoi; there's this ineffable quality to the basics that just make them stand out. The cheese sticks just feel a bit plumper with cheese and are topped with Parmesan cheese flecks. They have novelty stuffed potato meals that are, for all intents and purposes, a potato bowl for burger casserole, but it's still damn good. Their veggie burger has this good pesto sauce that worked for me. The food is really, really good. What puts this place over the top is its charm. The interior is small, intimate, and filled with '70s-'80s cabin-y wood. It's the kind of place where a guy might just get up and goad everyone to sing happy birthday to a girl at the bar after overhearing it was her special day. I stopped there for dinner take out tonight. They were extremely busy and short staffed, was told my order would take about 45 minutes to fill. Got to the place where I was staying and did the math, paid $23.00 dollars for a French dip sandwich and an order of onion rings. Good thing I'm from outof town, because they won't see me there again, I could have had steak dinner at Outback for that price. My fault for not catching the price discrepancy earlier fyi the French dip was 8.99 and the onion rings were 6.49 read more

I love the Oak Tree outdoors area. This summer, they were getting walleye in upon occasion. It was hands down the best fish I've had in Jackson. Unfortunately, they have chosen to ignore covid safety rules. The first time we went, our waitress wore her mask around her chin. Two weeks later, she didn't seem to have one on her person. When I went inside neither the owner nor the cook had one either. Very few customers wore them when away from their tables. I'll miss going there, but for now I have safer options in Jackson. read more

Ok so based on the reviews, I selected this place for lunch. Positive - great atmosphere, super nice staff, perfect music. The negative - I got the daily special Thai fish sandwich. Two pieces of frozen cod reheated with very little Thai sweet chili sauce on a bed of Asian coleslaw in a bun. One of the fish sticks was decent. The other...inedible - hard and chewy. Only ate half the sandwich. Fries were ok - what I would expect from a bar. Probably won't be visiting again any time soon unless it's just for drinks, but I don't drink too much so... read more

This place has a ton of charecter and really is a hidden gem in Jackson. Always great food. I often stop in for lunch if I'm in the area. They have a menu that caters to everybody. I'm a heat freak so if you like anything spicy ask for it VooDoo. My favorite is the VooDoo Chicken Sandwhich. Cute little dive bar with good food and courteous staff. Got the truffle fries for starters and they were delicious. They came with a "Dumbo Mayo" sauce that was pretty tasty. They had a special going on for a fish reuben so we ordered that for the entree. It was very tasty and came with sweet potato fries. Best experience in Jackson! I think I just got lucky (thanks to the reviews of other Yelpers) finding this wonderful place. Sitting on the patio in the summer (and on Thursday nights, and I think on Friday's, too), having a cold glass of beer or wine and listening to the live musician is just the way casual dining should be. Go here knowing that you are going to kick back and not be in a hurry. The food is delicious, fresh, and delivered piping hot! I went two nights in a row, and the first time had the cheesesteak sandwich, and the second time the cowboy b-b-q burger with the sweet potato fries. Outstanding meals, both times. Thanks to learning about the Oak Tree Lounge on Yelp, I dined there recently. I felt right at home as I was greeted warmly, and decided to try a burger [which was served on a fresh-baked onion bun] and one of their five homemade soups (I chose the Golumki Soup) as well as a side of homemade cole slaw. The 1/2-pound burger was absolutely delicious and was cooked exactly to the doneness that I had ordered. I loved the Golumki Soup, also! Because of the dozens of house-made menu offerings and the great service I received, I definitely will return soon to try more of their tempting menu items. We went there and ordered different things and we are all satisfied with them. The truffle fries is a MUST to try! They're so good! My husband ordered the mighty burger and he loves it! I ordered the honey turkey sandwich and I love it. My MIL ordered veggie stir fry with shrimp and she loves it too! I always go for lunch with my sister when I'm in town, and the price is right, the food is excellent, it's too small inside, and you can (usually) be out in less than an hour - what's not to love?! Never been here during the summer to sit outside, but this year might be the year. The Drummies are good, the truffle fries *are* something to write home about, and the pretzels and pub cheese are my favorite. I really like apps, but the sandwiches were good, too. Mediocre at best! Located in the middle of a residential areas but that's common for Jackson. The waitress/hostess/bartender was great and the cook was friendly. The burger was basic! Unless you order soup , EVERYTHING on the menu is over 7 dollars , I had a steak hoagie , small and overpriced , although it was tasty , meat was skimpy and chips SHOULD have been warm , instead of cold and greasy . Just so you Yelpers will know, Oaktree is doing carry out during the pandemic, and they are still the greatest little bar in Jackson! You have to call, but they answered quickly and got my order right. We all had burgers last night. Three of us had variations of Mighty burgers, and my daughter had the Mighty veggie, which is a black bean burger. We all pronounced them fantastic!! I've been stuck on the Voodoo Chicken for years, but these burgers are great. I last had one of their burgers over a decade ago when they were already known as among the best in Jackson. Met my mom half way between us in Jackson for lunch. Found this total gem. Tiny bar with homey decor. The server was very friendly, made you feel like you were invited to dinner at their house. Great food. Mom had a roasted veggie grilled cheese. I had a voodoo chicken sandwich with some real heat on an onion roll. Also had these incredible truffle fries. These fries will haunt my dreams. Had my second visit the other day in April of 2017. Glad I got there before the lunch rush. The place is tiny inside...and it fills up quick at lunch. Still...the food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time. Our waitress was pleasant, and the food was flat out shockingly good given that it is in Jackson Michigan. When in Jackson you should give the Oak Tree Lounge a shot. You will not be disappointed. read more

The guy at the grill is a fancy tall white hat shy of a highfalutin restaurant chef. Somebitch can whoop up a mean-ass burger! The menu is good. The beer is good also. Try one of the pita things. He'll put what ever they have on a pita and make it good. Service: Sometimes the place gets busy and sometimes it's slow. With that said, the service can be what it is depending. What the hell's the hurry!? Very friendly! Yes, VERY cool staff! Ambiance: It's a local place with a welcoming attitude. There are the regulars. They're fun. Good humour. Once inside it stated with them having Pepsi products on tap yet they had Coke in a can. Thanks for that! The waitress was very friendly and helpful. When I asked about the menu she quickly realized it was my first time there. After placing an order she quickly brought me four soups to try. They are homemade and all were delicious. (I even bought a Togo order of my favorite). Truffle fries were outstanding. The best part was the house made dips. I will definitely be back and want to try a burger. read more

From the road this place is set back with a dirt parking lot. Does not look real inviting but I found it on Yelp and the reviews stated that the hamburgers were really good. When you walk up the ramp to the patio, there was plenty of outside seating and everyone was having a good time. We chose to eat in the air-conditioning because we were outside quite a bit already and the inside was not as busy. My family, I was with (regulars), said the hamburgers were good and The Roast Beef sandwich was one of their favorites too. On the wall, they had a chalkboard with daily food specials. Everything sounded wonderful. My family decided to order The Mighty Oak burger that was talked about in the previous reviews and I decided on the The Mighty Mike burger that came with a special sauce on the side and green olives and blue cheese crumbles on the hamburger. The hamburgers came with a choice of either fries, cole slaw, homemade tavern chips, the daily picnic salad or cottage cheese. Wow, healthy options but I was on vacation so I got the homemade tavern chips. Homemade potato chips, made there daily. Even though we were in a full service bar, I got a Pepsi. And impressive, it came in a Pepsi cup. The hamburger was good but I really could not taste the blue cheese and for me, there was not enough olives. The bun was good, not a traditional bun, plus it was toasted on the inside, giving the edges an additional crunch and flavor. The tavern chips were good and crispy, but the special sauce, I could do without, not to special. The Oak Tree is truly a diamond in the rough. Kind of a hole in the wall place that seats maybe 50 or so, however, they have some of the best food in Jackson. Every day, they offer a variety of home made soups. And I'm not talking about one or two, its like six, and they're all very unique (i.e. Reuben chowder). I haven't had one that wasn't excellent. The Upper Deck and Lower Deck sandwiches are amazing club sandwiches (only order the upper deck if you brought your hungry-man appetite). Voodoo chicken is another winner. The burgers are amazing as well - again, bring your appetite, cuz their huge! The Cajun burger is my fave, but its only offered as a special so keep your eyes peeled for this on the chalk board. I would categorize the Oak Tree as gourmet bar food with a home made twist that will knock your socks off. I wanted to love this but couldn't. Items and choices sounded fantastic. There was a lot of handling money and handling food without washing or gloves. This was my first time dining at this establishment. The Mighty Oak burger as well cooked, but didn't have much flavor. The fresh condiments added the flavor needed to the burger. The Cajun fries were barely seasoned at all, but they were very crispy. The appetizer was delicious! But it would have been nice of the pretzels would have been a little more toasted.
