I'm not one to ever write a review either way if I love or hate it, but last night when we ate dinner here at one north kitchen in jackson, which was a special day.. it was my wife's birthday and we wanted to go somewhere different, nice place from where we usually go and so we decided on here. worst Mistake of the year so far. we started with spinach and artichoke dip for appetizer, it came to our table spilled over the bowl and was burnt plus it looked like a baby's dirty diaper and tasted just as bad. The dip was runny as water, and tasted absolutely awful. The chips were stale and tasted like an old popcorn fart that just left a bad taste in your mouth. My wife got the salmon which it too was burned badly n had a funky taste. The mashed potatoes it came with was about 3 parts garlic 1 part mashed potato, she wasn't able to even eat them. The broccoli was good. I had classic fish n chips which I normally love know matter what restaurant we are at, but last night the fish and fries were soaked in old cooking oil which just flat Out tasted like s**t. I have no idea who came up with their cole Slaw recipe, it was cabbage n vinegar I think from the way it tasted. It just was inedible this is the first review I have ever wrote and the only reason I did this time because the quality of food they had there last night I wouldn't have fed to my pug. It just got worse with each course. I'm sorry to even say this but this just had to be said so people will know what their getting when they go there, which is not a good thing. I will say the guitarist they had playing there was really good very talented. Maybe they should have him cook too. It couldn't get any worse. Come on chef just do better. Take a closer look at why you wanted to open a chain restaurant in the first place. read more

I came here for Saturday brunch and it's a lovely atmosphere and great service, but the food is just okay. My Huevos Rancheros dish was very dense and heavy, and I couldn't finish it. The chorizo ratio to the rest of the ingredients was not balanced. I had so much chorizo left over. It's nice that they are generous with protein but it was a lot. My friend had the "French toast waffle sammy" and thought it was just okay too. The drinks are tasty! I really liked my white sangria and my friend loved her Bloody Mary too. I enjoyed the spicy feta dip. It had a nice kick to it. The restaurant and restrooms are very clean. Very spacious. Plenty of seating and parking. Everything was great except for our entrees. I would come here for lunch or dinner and try the food again, but I wouldn't return for brunch. read more

Arrived around 2 pm for lunch and drinks. The bartenders were absolutely amazing and informative. They provided great recommendations on menu items and knew the menu and drinks appropriately. We ordered the Shrimp Appetizer and it was delicious with the coleslaw base. We followed that that with the Reuben and the Blackened Chicken Alfredo. Food was delivered by a manager who verified all was correct and made sure our experience was meeting expectations and left us to our meal. The food was amazingly good, I even had my husband worried I was going to eat my whole meal, as he always finishes my leftovers later. When we asked the bartender for a signature shot, she did not disappoint. The bar is very spacious with comfortable chairs for relaxing and enjoying yourself. It was a little cold inside but living in Michigan you get used to all seasons in one day. If you're a cold person, bring a sweater/sweatshirt. There were TVs located all over the bar and restaurant area so you didn't miss any sports activity. Nice patio seating outside was an option as well. Unsure why there have been so many poor reviews. Maybe because it is such a big place and are not able to staff it? The bartender was very busy but attentive and very nice. I even asked for the Cleveland Guardians game to be put on and it wound up being blocked and apologized for it even though it wasn't their fault. I had a ceasar salad to start and was unique as it had mixed greens instead of romaine but good. The bourbon salmon was very good with nice seasonings. Mashed potatoes were good as well. We needed a small meeting room for 10 to do a combined in-person and Zoom training of our organization's officers. What a great experience, from management to servers! The meeting room was adjacent to their open, spacious, family-friendly dining room that has multiple big screens for sports. Our meeting room had its own big screen TV for our Zoom and a high-top conference table. The room's barn-type sliding door provided privacy, yet easy access for food/beverage service. Their menu had something for everyone and our attendees were very pleased with both the room and our friendly, attentive server. Conveniently located off the highway, we stopped in for lunch. The staff was very friendly and let us pick a high top in the bar area. The place is very large and it was very clean. Large TVs all over were also a plus to watch some games while we enjoyed our meal. The beer list was impressive and our chicken nachos showed up quickly and we all loved them. I went with the Crispy Jalapeño Burger with fries and I enjoyed it. I was nervous it would be too spicy but I felt it was the perfect amount of kick and flavor. The burgers are messy and all of ours kind of fell apart, but we still enjoyed it. We would definitely come back. read more

Have seen this place on past visits and it's mere blocks from hotel. Nice vibe, modern and open space. Spacious seating with two sides and outside. Large bar area and the ubiquitous TVs. Decent beer selection, although with Michigan beer culture they could do with more local selections. Menu has plenty of options and is more upscale than typical bar food. I had a salmon wrap with bacon and an aioli sauce. Salmon was cooked just right, didn't have that fishy smell which usually indicates poor quality. Fries were well seasoned and crispy. Friendly and attentive bar staff, with a good regular crowd that staff knew their names. A solid choice that I will return to when visiting family in the area. read more

Went here on a Saturday around 4pm. I tried before on the weekend around 5:30 and there was a wait so I wanted to get here early to make sure I had a chance to try it. Disappointing for the price. We had pretzel bites for an appetizer, a cheese burger, a hot chicken sandwich and two cokes. $52. The food was ok, on par with an Applebee's but not better. What ticked me off was the price for the pretzels. Foolishly I suppose I didn't look at the price figuring they would be around $7-$8 like most places. Imagine my surprise when I saw the bill. $11.49 for 12 tiny 1" square pretzel bites. That's $1.01 each bite. The cheese served with it is completely tasteless. Don't believe me, go ahead and overpay and find out yourself. I'm including a pic so you can see what you're getting ripped off for. We have decided we'd rather eat at Applebee's or Chili's for the same food with a more reasonable price. We won't be back. read more

When I go back to Jackson to visit family it's always nice to find a new restaurant, and I was looking forward to dinner when we sat down in the nice space and saw the extensive menu. WOW were we disappointed with the food. It was just bad. The house chips and queso arrived with a tiny, condiment-size capful of cheese that wasn't even hot. The salad was OK. The entrees where were things went really bad. The jambalaya was bland and was served with mostly-inedible rice. I don't know if the rice wasn't fully cooked or had been ruined in a microwave, but it was like eating half-cooked rice. I should have sent it back but I picked around it. How can you ruin rice? My dad's pork chop was similarly bad, rock hard and barely cuttable. It was hard watching my octogenarian dad struggle with it, thinking "Is he going to choke to death on that thing?" The kitchen at One North clearly has some major problems and if this is what they are serving they will have mostly one-time customers. read more

Imagine my surprise when I couldn't eat the Traverse City Cherry Burger because the cherry sauce was too spicy. The menu doesn't say anything about spicy cherry reduction. I also couldn't eat the fries due to over seasoning. Glad my husband ate the fries and burger, and I could eat his burger. Thankful our waitress provided me with regular fries! I wanted a break from pub fare and this one had me at jambalaya. However it was the brussels with bacon that rued the day. Fried up crisp with a balsamic drizzle. The jambalaya was tasty, but dull compared to the Southern classic. It lacked a rich rue, but I appreciate the appropriated version with a nice spice level. The rice is served on top rather than cooked in. It was a filling dish with shrimp, fish, and andouille sausage. For and extra two dollars I added a salad. My late lunch ran into happy hour, so cheers everyone. I had a generous meal that did not break the bank. This place is a Michigan chain, but I thought the menu had enough variety without feeling like a diner. Actually the open air and large windows offered pleasant environment. We got to the restaurant late like 9:30 and they sat us without issue. We asked our waitress for a recommendation and she said the jambalaya was one of her favorite dishes. One North Kitchen & Bar has a nice environment, except the L-shaped hallway dining room which is extremely noisy because of it's shape and all the hard surfaces. Also the menu on the surface is nice. These items are not my issue with this establishment. Most times when I eat out I am a single diner, which I know for some restaurants I am an irritant! This is the case with One North. The first time I went there the hostess was slightly annoyed I did not want to sit at the bar. Really no big deal I get that from other various places. My waitress was pleasant enough, but never came back to the table after she brought me my order. So I paid $3.50+- for one glass of lemonade with a fair amount of ice. Also my meal was not as pleasant as it should have been, because I was thirsty through most of it. This first encounter with One North facilitated a larger time gap for my return visit than I usually have with new restaurants. Well the second visit happened yesterday. The hostess was not irritated that I was a single diner and she gave me the table I asked for. My waitress was very nice when I ordered a coke and my food order. She brought me my coke and I took a few sips but needed to used the restroom. My waitress was also very helpful in directing my path to said restroom. I was in the Men's Room for a few minutes, but when I came out and went back to my table, my drink had be removed and the hostess was sitting a party of three at my table. When I said to the hostess I was sitting there, she responded that my waitress had stated I had left and the table was free. I was a little shocked not just because my waitress gave my table away to a larger party, but that the hostess didn't care that she had done so. So I left and will never enter this establishment again! I do think that groups of two or more will be satisfied with there treatment, when they are there, considering the amount of positive reviews One North receives. We had an enjoyable experience, to the point of my husband actually wanting to go back again soon, even though it's an hour drive from our house. Our server was amazing, all the food was delicious, the beer selection was great, and I loved the mocktails available. We sat outside because they had big umbrellas for each table to provide plenty of shade. My only complaint was that the cigarette butt collector was right outside the front door, so any time someone came out to smoke, we had to smell it. read more

I have been to this place twice now and this is my honest review, the place from the outside the patio looks like an expensive and well maintained restaurant. The inside is very big with two different room and is very clean with a huge bar, both times that i have been here the waitresses have been great. Now with all that being said both times that i have been here the food has been subpar at best i would even say bad, you would expect with the atmosphere that it would have incredible food? I would expect a talented chef to have a crew of cooks that knew what they were doing with fresh food, i had the Balsamic Chicken last night sounded great but the chicken was frozen tough as leather the garlic mashed potatoes were instant potatoes and the vegetables were over done and not fresh. I believe if they had a great leader in the kitchen and bought and served fresh food this place could be phenomenal, but as for me i don't believe i will go back, i think they pay more attention to there bar then there food. Always enjoy the ambiance here. Live music is always fun. Restaurant was fairly busy, but didn't hinder the service or speed during my visit. I had the wet burrito which comes with either chicken or beef, I opted for the chicken. It has a side of pica, lettuce, guacamole, and a healthy handful of jalapeños. This was very flavorful. My only complaint was a wet burrito usually has some type of sauce, whether a cheese sauce or a red/green sauce. This one had none of that. So it was slightly on the dry side. I'm still leaving five stars because the service was great, friendly, and we received our food very quickly. read more
