This place is tucked away on a side street where you wouldn't expect a restaurant and when you walk in the tables are kind of on top of each other and the staff. Good thing their DELICIOUS food more than makes up for those minor faults. I had a build your own burger and fries, but tried my co-workers chips. Everything was amazing. The buns are REALLY good and the bacon was cooked perfectly. Service was a little slow but they were pretty busy, and it wasn't bad enough to drop them a star. This is a nice little quiet place to enjoy a meal with a friend. Don't bring a large group as there isn't sufficient seating for more than four. Our waitress lost our order thus resulting in a two hour wait for my wife and I to get our meal, but she handled it properly by covering our meal herself. Ok, so first off: an Asian salad does NOT contain Parmesan! Different continent. The salad was ok but in no way Asian. Second: the place has erected a charming, heated tent on deck with lights and fire pit to accommodate pandemic. Nice touch. The reason I'm giving three stars is that the waitperson greeted us with an air of annoyance and irritation. She demanded to know what we wanted--we didn't even have menus! She impatiently insisted that we should just take waters instead of suggesting beer or wine specials. She listed a couple of sugary drinks (sort of a sexist move, implication "You're women so you must drink Fu-Fu". I asked about wine and she barked, again, extremely impatient, "We have X brand. It's good!", sounding like "Choose something and leave me alone." My friend and I both have extensive experience in the restaurant industry. Her attitude from the moment she "greeted" us until we left was just rude. I can say I over-tipped her. I would go back for the food, but I would avoid her. I should note that my friend and I maintained a polite attitude toward her, hoping she would mirror our attitudes and chill out a bit, but it was futile. read more

The Oak Tree is one my very favorite places to unwind and enjoy some entertainment, great food, and amazing drinks! I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and of course my favorite dish, the voo-doo chicken sandwich. It's spicy with buffalo sauce and smothered in bell peppers. I also love the chips and cheese. My favorite is the white cheddar they use. It's my favorite appetizer. I really enjoy that it is one of the few places in Jackson that has live entertainment. They make FANTASTIC bloody marys! Loaded with lots of good stuff. I always feel welcome, get great service, and have a good time when I go to the Oak Tree. To be clear: this is for The Catering Company, not the restaurant itself. If I could give 1/2 a star, I would take that option. My husband and I hired The Catering Company for our wedding on August 20th. 9 months later we just finished dealing with all the bullshit that came with this "company." This was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives, and she turned it into a nightmare that lasted for almost a year now. Let me make this clear: we did not ask for anything extravagant for our wedding. We did ask for anything out of the ordinary. Let's get straight to the point: she ran out of food at our wedding and tried to blame it on us. My husband and I supplied about 65% of the food for our wedding ourselves. And she still managed to run out. She ran out of ice, cups, rum, wine 35 minutes into our reception. All the liquor that she brought with her wasn't what we asked for and majority of the bottles were open. It was extremely tacky and embarrassing to tell my wedding guests to save their cups. Solo cups. The cheapest part of a bar. To add to the embarrassment, Julie decided to take on another wedding that day and when the food was running out she exclaimed to all of our friends and family whom were waiting in line to eat dinner, "There isn't any food left. We don't have any more coming out of the kitchen." Mind you again, my husband and I supplied 65% of the food for our appetizers and our guests. 8 tables did not eat. There wasn't enough food for them to make a sufficient sized dinner meal. To addd insult to the injury, my husbands boss, the owner of one of the biggest car dealerships in Ann Arbor was the first one to tell us about the dinner disaster. I called Julie, the bride on my wedding day at my reception, and asked what the hell was going on. She proceeded to tell me and I quote, "If people would stop being so rude and taking so much, there would be enough for everyone." Word for word. Mind you, she wasn't even there. She had another wedding that apparently was more important and left her poor staff to deal with her mess. I could go on and on. I have 8 pages of complaints from my wedding guests, I have about a dozen hand written letters from my guests documenting their night and experiences. To make matters worse, she tried to charge us an astronomical amount for the entire awful experience with her. She tried to make her mistakes, our fault. She tried to put the blame on us. So not only did she royally screw up, but tried to make it look like we were in the wrong and making us look bad. This was supposed to be easy she said. It was supposed to be perfect and beautiful and nothing to worry about she said. And what happened? 9 months later, it's finally over. No more crying about this disaster from my wedding day. It's still embarrassing as all hell, but it's ok. Because karma is an evil bitch, and what goes around, comes back around. Moral of the story: get everything in writing. Have a legit contract. And never hire this evil person to cater anything. Ever. read more

I was in from out of town and found this place. As soon as I walked in I stuck out; clearly, I wasn't a local. But no biggie, I sat up at the bar and as soon as I placed my bag down Sam, with a huge smile, asked me what I was drinking. The food was great and the drinks were nice and cold. I'm bummed I found this place on my last night and not sooner. A big thank you to Sam for her kind and friendly personality. The food at this place is awesome. It's a hidden gem in the middle of a residential neighborhood but trust me it's worth the hunt to find it. Because of its location it is mainly a local hangout. Their prices are very cheap and the food is some of the best casual dining you'll find in the area. Great lunch spot and they also have a full bar with reasonable prices on drinks. We met a friend here for lunch while we are in Michigan (Jackson) for the holidays visiting family. I chose Oak Tree because it's not a chain restaurant and their known for their great burgers. I forgot though, how incredibly small the Oak Tree Lounge is. I love the addition you made outside, maybe make some addition inside? Any way we all ordered burgers of some sort. I ordered the burger with green olives and blue cheese crumbles. I ordered it medium, it was more on the medium well side, but that was just fine. The burger was very juicy, with the right amount of seasoning. I didn't have add much salt at all. Perfect size burger and we also ordered the truffle fries...very delicious paired with the truffle sauce to dip in, or whatever sauce it was. I also order two absolute tonics with lime and the bartender poured them perfectly (hence why I had two). When we're back in Jackson, we'll stop in for another burger and drinks. I've been here a few times, and the thing that keeps coming back is the world's best waitress, Mariah! Her attitude just lights up the room! Like the outdoor dining option, and they have a pretty darn good menu as well. One time had a peach pulled pork and good lord it was the best thing ever! What a surprise to find this gem in Jackson. We were headed across 94 and found this bar/restaurant on Yelp. The crowd looked happy. Our server was friendly and welcoming. The food that was coming off the grill looked delicious. Still didn't expect the deliciousness that was to come. We ordered philly steak sandwich and the cheeseburger MR. The philly came hot and with a warm soft bun. Side was potatoe salad. Very good also. Burger was huge. Cooked perfectly. And the side of Truffle fries w an amazing sauce just knocked it out of the park. We are still talking and thinking about those fries. Worth every penny! Driving from Wisconsin to Detroit, and we did a yelp search. This gem came up. The reviews have it all right; cheap beer, great food, and a relaxing atmosphere. A little note to those passing through, the outside menu is different than the inside menu. We had the outside menu and the asparagus was delicious. Additionally, we can also attest the soups are a must try. I personally highly recommend that if you are in need of a beer break with great food, this is the destination in Jackson. read more
