The 2 waitresses would not serve us , not sure if it was because of our ethnicity because they sure were serving all the Caucasian people, after waiting for 20 minutes with out anyone to take our order we walked out. We had such a wonderful experience with Oak Valley during my son and daughter-in-law's wedding this Labor Day weekend! The Oak Valley Vineyards Restaurant staff worked tirelessly on the wedding details for over a year, and the end result was breathtaking! We also had the rehearsal dinner there, and it was perfect as well! They were able to provide guidance on all aspects of the wedding, gave prompt answers our questions, and the staff went out of their way to see that every request was not only met, but met quickly and with a smile. The lighting and decor set a backdrop for some of the most beautiful wedding pictures I have ever seen! The husband & I decided to give this place a try for our early Valentine's dinner. We started the meal with the crab cakes paired with a chili slaw and oh my what a perfect pairing that was. I'm not a huge fan of crab cakes or slaw and I wanted to fight for every last bite. We both had the peppered rib eye with garlic mashed potatoes, my hubby had the creamy jalapeño spinach and mushrooms and I had the grilled asparagus. The meat was cooked perfectly & I mean Perfectly. Our waitress recommend a wonderful local wine for myself, Heather was her name. She was an amazing server. She explained all dishes and answered my many questions. I will start with the good. The staff was friendly and attentive, the glasses of wine were reasonably priced and the setting was picturesque. Unfortunately, when I dine out my wife and I being foodies expect quality of food for the prices we were paying. She started the meal with a cup of the poblano corn chowder and while the price was reasonable at $6 the quality was poor. The chowder was gritty due to the cheese not being appropriately incorporated and it had an awful salty taste which after a couple of bites we determined that it was the pork product that they were claiming was prosciutto giving the unpleasant flavor accompanying the grit. I had a Caesar salad and the romaine lettuce while fresh was drenched in dressing. For dinner she had the chicken florentine with steamed vegetables and a portobello risotto. The chicken was dry and was supposed to be stuffed with pesto and prosciutto. There was little to no pesto and what was there was bitter and the prosciutto was the same salted smoked pork product that had been in the chowder it was very salty and quite frankly it contributed to an awful meal. I had the day's special which was a sea bass with scallops and a crab topping. The sea bass was cold and it appeared that the whole dish was left under a heat lamp for quite some time due to the crab being a crusty congealed mass on top. The scallops were not fresh and were rubbery due to overcooking. All in all the dish was a complete letdown with the only good item being the carrots and the steamed broccoli. Considering that we were one of three couples in the dining area, I would have expected the chef to be as attentive to his cuisine as the server was with his guests. We won't be returning and I would venture to say that the food was worse than some banquet food that I've had at hotels. The setting is the only reason that this isn't a one star review. read more

We came in for a few glasses of wine and ended up with full tummies and a great experience. Passed by this place on the way to safari, on the way back, we looked it up and saw that it was open. Stopped in and checked it out. Let's just say everything that is a potato is going to be fresh here. Peeped through the kitchen window hole and the chef was getting at it,peeling potatoes. There was a slight disappointment when we asked for the vineyard wines, they had none, forgivable since they are less that a year old. We were served by Beth, the owner. She was quite pleasant and answered all our questions as we looked everything over. Crab cakes were the appetizers, they make their own slaw and crab cakes, pretty good with the sauce. We had the chicken club which was fantastic on Texas sized toast, dressed well with delicious fresh French fries. The tenderloin with asparagus and multicolored potatoes were well flavored. The Texas two step hill country egg Benedict were perfected with poached eggs, sliced ham and a piece of tenderloin steak. Our brunch was unexpected and delicious, looking forward to hitting them up again when their have their own wines. Definitely a must in Hill Country. read more

I might go 2-2.5 because most of the food I had last night was actually disappointing: overly anchovied cesar salad, an overdone steak (flavorful from grilling, but too tough to be great), flavorless steamed veggies, boring rice, and "mushroom risotto" that made rice-a-roni sound good. But. The special - Chilean Sea Bass and shrimp in a thyme lemon butter cream sauce - was Delicious. In fact, the shrimp were AMAZING. A freshness not often encountered 'round these parts, and a sauce that perfectly complimented the shrimps' flavor. When we sent our compliments to the chef (after having sent back a few items), our waiter told us that they're known for their shrimp. I'd heard good things about The Vineyards, so I was disappointed that most of the food was sub-par. The ambiance IS nice; it's a cozy, understatedly classy place. We were there after dark, so we missed what's probably an amazing view over the vineyards in beautiful hill country, but it was still a great atmosphere. Maybe it was an off night. The feel of the place and the amazing shrimp are definitely worth giving it another shot. If you're looking for a nice environment with good food, go to The Vineyards. Just don't expect 5 stars. Where to begin? I purchased a Groupon for the Vineyards & decided to use it the Weekend before Valentine's Day. I read plenty of good reviews & this place was allegedly a "romantic" place where people celebrate weddings, etc.So, I planned, what I thought would be a romantic evening with my fiance. We drove nearly 1 hr (which was expected) to get there. We expected valet service, but we were wrong (no big deal). I just had to suck it up & walk in heels through the pebble made parking lot. Then we realized it looked like someones two-story home (again no big deal, we have been to some AMAZING restaurants that look like so). We were greeted promptly where we followed a man upstairs to our "RESERVED" table. Seated up there was a large party of 7 couples. Our server greeted us fairly soon & took our drink order at this time. I asked for a wine recommendation (to sip on throughout dinner). Our server recommended a Moscat (this place is called the VINEYARDS! A Moscat is a desert wine, NOT a DINNER wine). I had a glass anyway because I love it. While we waited for the server to return with the drinks, my fiance & I couldn't help but notice the poor paint job. The red was very poorly painted onto the walls, in some places obviously coated more than others & all of the air vents were painted over. The server returned with our drink order & started to tell us about the dinner features (tuna, shrimp, jasmin rice, seaweed salad). I asked him for clarification because it was very loud (the large party was enjoying their time, which was understandable) . He answered me accordingly, but he wiped his nose on his sleeve cuff while doing so! Then we ordered parmesean shrimp as an appetizer. My fiance & I are both watching our eating habits so we figured this would be a healthier appetizer. When it came, we realized it was FRIED!!! Which was NOT at all mentioned on the menu. So we sent it back for grilled shrimp (which they corrected). Also, the bread that was brought to the table was obviously heated in a microwave or something comparable. It was hot when it got to the table and cold within 3 minutes & very hard (like putting bread in the microwave). I ordered the feature & my fiance ordered the ribeye meal cooked medium-well (he substituted mashed potatoes for double veggies). By this time, the large party was gone. When our meal arrived, my shrimp was FRIED (which again was NOT mentioned) & my tuna was pink on the inside (as it's supposed to be) but very very warm & the crust on the tuna appeared to be breaded and panfried (which may explain the warmth of the tuna). My fiance's steak was very purple on the inside, but appeared to be very well grilled on the outside. He cut into the steak making 4 large pieces to make sure the first piece wasn't just an under-cooked section of the steak. We reluctantly sent it back to be cooked just a tad longer. 20 minutes later... By this time I was done eating (no, I didn't finish my meal, I just couldn't bring myself to finishing it because it wasn't cooked to my liking). However, I did finish the jasmine rice & seaweed salad. The table of the large party had NOT been bused & still had dinnerware on the table & another couple was gone from a nearby table (but had not been bused) & two more tables were checking out. The server asked my fiance to cut into the steak but my fiance said "Oh no, I can tell it's cooked. Thanks though." Again it appeared cooked on the outside but when he cut into each of the four pieces they brought back on his plate, they were STILL purple and oddly steaming (this was my fiance's wrong-doing), but let's face it, sending a steak back for a third time is NEVER a good idea when it's the SAME steak! Not only was his steak raw for a second time they laid the four pieces over a bed of MASHED POTATOES! I asked the server if he could bring an extra side of veggies because they accidentally served mashed potatoes instead. He apologized (because he was aware of the mistake) & said "I'm sorry guys I can't do it all"). KEEP IN MIND, UP TO THIS POINT WE ONLY SENT THE APPETIZER BACK AND THE STEAK TO BE COOKED A LITTLE LONGER. The server brought an extra side of veggies (which was nice). The veggies, by the way, tasted & looked like they were boiled in butter. The server returned about 30 minutes later & apologized about the mashed potatoes & offered a complimentary desert. It was at this time we asked for to-go boxes, but he insisted on taking care of it for us. We asked the server to make a desert of his choice, to go (for the kids). He returned with the check about 15 minutes later. I presented the groupon which he marked as redeemed. We left & realized the groupon had NOT been applied to final price. We called the restaurant & they asked us to go back. We swore to NEVER return after this visit! I opened the desert for the kids the next day. It was served with ice cream which was melted! We finished off the safari and stopped in here for a couple of glasses of their wines which they did not have but luckily, there was a brunch menu that we were completely unaware of. We were starving so went ahead and grabbed a bite. The texas style eggs benedict were delicious, crab cakes fried fresh with a little much oil. The steaks were not cooked to temp. We ordered 2 tenderloins, 1 was over cooked and one undercooked. The variety of potatoes made the dish very intersting. We will give it another try next time we are in town. Wife and I went here for a date night and this place is great! Usually we wouldn't go so far afield but my mom offered to babysit and the drive was definitely worth it. Quick note in name: this is a vineyard in that it has acres of grapevines, it does not however produce wine. Not a big deal to me, but a little unclear I felt. This is a small restaurant in an old style house set amongst very pretty grounds. The menu is small, which I appreciate because I would rather go somewhere that focuses on doing a few things well. I had the ribeye and it was one of the best steaks I have ever eaten! It had a good crust on the outside but wasn't overcooked at all. Topped with mushrooms. The vegetable of the day was bacon wrapped asparagus which was great, also it was atop garlic mashed potatoes which were good and not too garlicky. My wife had the surf and turf tenderloin with shrimp and crab cake. The tenderloin was cooked great. And I liked both the surf options. I agree with another reviewer who said the crab cake might be better if it was lump. But it was still very good and not too much breading. The wine menu might be small for real wine fans, it was good for me. They even offer flights of Texas vineyards which sounds fun, though most of the their Texas selections could be found at HEB. Oak Valley is a great value. The price is a bit higher than chains, but it is far less than fancy steak places which it rivals. After dinner we walked around the vineyard which was lit with twinkle lights. Great evening all around! read more

What a gem! I happened to drive by Oak Valley Vinyard a week or so ago, and it didn't take long to run back for Sunday brunch and a walk around the beautiful property soon after. Our brunch was delicious. I had the lobster bisque, a dinner salad with grilled chicken, and a mimosa, and my boyfriend had the smoked ribeye hash with a spicy Bloody Mary - everything was amazing. We had a lovely table with a view of the property, and our server was on top of everything from start to finish. After brunch we walked around the property where they hold events and weddings. Every inch of property has attention to detail - it's so beautiful! We're definitely planning to come back for dinner...and maybe for a wedding in the future! read more
